I had this problem with mine. The problem with it slipping and doing what yours was doing is it needed a new gear cog housing, and new cog, I also replaced the cables and the clips. Hope this helps
I had my smart car cabrio evaluated today by Orland Park Mercedes/Smart car. It would hang up on closure . I was given an estimate for repair of aprox $1600. on a 10 yr old car. I fixed the problem by putting a piece of black tape over the switch and discontinued opening the roof. Ha, that is my solution. roof has been the biggest maintainence hog on the otherwise pleasant machine. I dont need a convertable anymore cuz I just bought a retored 1958 Triumph TR3 problem solved. Ha.
I´m having the same problem on my Roadster. After checking the rails, I noticed that there was a broken piece of plastic on the front slider, although the side that has this broken bit doesn't seem to be the side that is getting stuck. Honestly, I have no idea how I can maintain this car, because it's getting really hard to find parts for it. I love it but unless you have a garage (which I don't) it's not worth it... :'(
There is a simple mechanical mismatch of the rail. Look closer at the point where remomable bar touches the frame behind the seat. It's not ideal alignment. Good thing - you can adjust it by hand and close the roof. Just play with open and close buttons once you think you have it in the correct position, you'll get a feel for it after few attempts. I personally have a mismatch of 2-3 millimeters along one of the rails - it's enough to create a problem and for this construction I am not sure even a mechanic can fix it really well because it's a removable bar that goes on and off and can be easily twisted out of position if you lean on the car for example.
Ok so the problem is the roofbars? I was going to try it with some other roofbars just to make sure they were the problem. I will have a look at it. Thank you for the info!
@@goodpeople5756 I have checked and found I have this misalignment as well, and everything gets stuck there. No idea how this happened and also I could not find any way to adjust. All bolts have their place and are non-adjustable, so how did it got so misaligned??
Hello i had the same problem ... My issue is ... ! Look to the attachement is it still stuck to the soft top, you know the littles parts sliding should be stucked but with the times it seems to reap so make sure it become again ... whereas the system will block the way it does actually when s*t happen because you tried to open or close while driving to fast or simply because of lack of the glue on the soft top and the material ... Sorry for my basic English but wish it helped a little
Hi. I did not completely understand what you meant. The 4 little parts that slide with the roof to keep it in place have been changed. Have you got it fixed or do you still have the same issue?
FatBoard1 I'm talking about what he called clips at the beginning ... the sliding clips ! Sorry for my light language The fact is the sewing is gone as the glue too so the thing is you have to stuck it again to the clip I ordered some new clips I didn't fix it already but I can also take picture to explain better.. But it appears when you change these pieces the problem got solved but in my opinion it has to be sticked with glue in add with a little sewing ... but to do it properly I think you have to pull out all the system from the rails to manipulate easily
Mine just blocked because wasn't aligned properly... must go to the garage to change the front piece which is blocked in the rail ... this car is so fragile ...

Hi I have a problem with my 450 roof. it does open and close but it doesn't close fully, about 10mm short of what it should be so rain does come in and wind noise is horrendous, can anyone help
Carlos Costa hi. I still haven't figured out how to fix it. I was quoted € 1000 for the job and I needed new slides. That's what I heard could fix it. But still a mystery for me. I will update this post if I get it fixed.

Hi. The problem is still there. Haven't done anything with it the last couple of months. You could check theroadster.net and see if they have a solution.

No, it's not about gear without tooth or too much grease. Fresh grease will work fine and only create problems with dust later. The guy applied it OK. Gears will be the last to loose tooth... The noise is from tooth sliding along the cable as they can't push the cable through a block created by a misaligned rail. Judging from the noise, the cables are rather old and external cover layer has been worn off due to excessive contact with cogs. Not a big problem, I have the same and it works OK once you align the rails.
Yep; who would think that intellectual people could invented something that could F-up so badly. No wonder they never relaunched that version of the motor car..

Correct.. 👌I thought the same thing when I saw the video, the more thick fat there is in the rails, the more dirt and grime is attracted when driving open, which settles in the rails and this makes it much harder to run covered..!!

from your description I believe so, yes.
I expect that attaching a new roof bar will not solve the problem. Let me know how it will go :-)

FatBoard1 ...thanks for your reply, .. I have order front catch and plan to replace them, hope it will work...keep in touch and good luck! my friend
You put too much grease. This make the movement stop. Change the cables and gear. The gear without tooth make this noise.

bonsoir regarde le pignon du moteur il est en plastique. Je pense que tu as casser le pignon.
Are you sure you've got your sliders on the correct way around? See this video for details: ruclips.net/video/xWbKE-VAk9Q/видео.html

a thin film of silicone spray, for example, is the very best thing you can use for the splints in my opinion.. 🤗
