Would you rather have a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT or a Porsche Taycan? Performance car head-to-head!

- Would you rather drive Ford or a Porsche? No, it's not as silly a question as you might think. There isn't much of a price difference between the Ford Mustang Mach e GT and the base level Porsche Taycan, so you really could choose between them.
Tom Ford heads out in both to see which horse he would place his money on.

In the real world, I can't ever imagine a potential Porsche buyer even for one second contemplating walking into a Ford dealership to consider the Mach-E GT, however ballistically fast it might be...! 🤣
+1 - he starts off the video saying it's not as silly a question as it sounds.
Yes it's 100% ridiculous and silly. RUclips clickbait.
@@8020Alive and yes you are 100% correct
yeah people really let Money go straight up their ass and into their heads. They forget the richest men in the world like Berkshire Hathaways' retired Warren Buffet. He drove a toyota and now drives a Cadillac.
The toys dont make the boys'!
Taycan 4S owner - considered it, wife just got one. To be fair, I got the Taycan because it was the best EV available at the time but if the GT Performance had been available earlier I'd probably be in that (wasn't looking specifically for a Porsche).
When your requirements list is:
- EV
- 250+ Mi Range
- Good handling/suspension
- CarPlay
The shopping list is EXTREMELY short. Right now it is basically the Taycan, Mach E (performance specifically with the magnetic dampeners) and BMW iX. Wife nearly threw up when she saw the iX and the Mach E had the space she also wanted (coming from a GLS 63).
The Mach E is an insanely good value for the money and really nice even on absolute terms (even the Porsches can have cheap-feeling interiors if you don't option-up to the leather).
You obviously have never driven a Mach e GT performance.
I bought a red Mach E GT and love it.
I looked at the Taycan and have already chosen the Mach e GT Perf. and never regretted it! I sold my Porsche Boxster that I loved in order to buy the Mach e. It was too much money for such an impractical car. I have had several Porsches over my seven decades of existence, and they were a lot of fun to drive. I club raced motorcycles for 15 years, so I have the skill set to appreciate fine performance cars. But the Mach e is a freaking rocket and with the Magnaride suspension, it handles any public roads which includes curves.
Taycan for me please!
Is it really a question?
Just upgraded my Polestar 2 to 476 hp, and it’s Great fun. First car (of an attainable price) that I’ve driven that is almost as good a steer as the iPace I had for 3 years
All a bit immaterial really. Try to get a new Taycan now and you’ll be waiting 12-18 months. Oh and at least 20 weeks for the Ford
Having driven a Taycan, they’re absolutely brilliant. And lovely inside.
Can not even order a Ford.
The Mach-E GT is boat loads of fun to drive and is a stunner to look at. But c'mon, you're still comparing a Ford to a Porsche.
But have you seen that ford. It’s insane
@@jeffmocha9478 yes, I actually own one. The Porsche is beautiful and probably drives way better but we're talking about a German sports saloon vs. American family crossover.
@@anthonyc8499 Well I actually own a Ford Mustang Mach e GT. And the magne- ride suspension makes the car feel really planted. And the fact it's way too low to the ground
@@anthonyc8499 Drives a bit better but VAG software engineers should never be allowed near an infotainment system. The wireless CarPlay in the Taycan is buggy and as hell (along with a slew of other annoyances). The Mach E's software isn't perfect (seriously, give us a shortcut for turning on the parking cameras) but it works a lot better than the Porsche software.
I’m really waiting for the Cayman (E) to come out & Ford was never in the pot. Waiting to try the EV6 GT but sadly Tesla and their supercharger network is pipping it for me
The Mustang is just gopping though...
Quick question. Did idiots get into the boot of cars before EVs?
I knew immediately which one I'd choose even before watching this. I watched it anyways and agree completely with him. Porsche v Ford,....there's no doubt in my mind whatsoever.
Or just buy the EV6 or Ioniq5 and save loads of money, get all the kit and the charging speeds.
Or a Model Y.... Along with a electric scooter and a holiday to Spain for the family
@@Brotherbear75 Mach-E consistently gets better reviews for driving than Model Y.
May sound strange but I was choosing between a Taycan and EQA (to keep). Did the math, both affordable, but handing over £100k for a car didn’t sit well with me. As much as I like the Taycan I’d rather keep the extra £50k in my possession and invested than give it away.
I have a Taycan, you have to ask your self how much it’s worth to you to have a smile on your face every day you go for a drive.
@@ronb4633 Good question 👍 I’ll keep that in mind. I have no doubt the Taycan is amazing. Well, I promised my daughter she can have the EQA when she’s old enough to drive, I’ll give the Taycan a test drive then.
@@ronb4633 i smile with my mach e gt
@@SP-sl6dj i smile with my mach e gt cyber orange
Sorry... But I can't see the Mustang as a serious option. It needs to be an EV6 GT at £58k vs the Porsche. Charging is good, battery technology is good & warranty is better... Also the EV6 GT has decent suspension! Where as the Mach-E is twitchy with cheaper battery technology.
I love my mach e gt cyber orange
@@jcherrax Maybe you are in USA..? Coz I haven't seen one in the UK.
@@mikadavies660 california yup
@@jcherrax Thought so... Lucky for you guys, you can get the F150 & the Mustang and its cheaper.... In Europe there are 1 Yr waiting lists and the Mustang E GT is around 90,000 USD...
Hence me suggesting the EV6 GT as it is far cheaper and sometimes available.
@@mikadavies660 sheeesh its thst much over in the UK?! Thats insane i got my Mach E GT performance in cyber orange for just $65k usd
Is that the Frozen Berry colour on the Taycan? A much more interesting choice than the sea of residual friendly greys, blacks and silvers.
And I'll say it again, they should have called it the Thunderbird instead of the Mustang, but 10/10 to the marketing guys getting everyone to talk about it!
P.S. I will have the Taycan if you're offering.
If it was a taycan vs ipace what would be your pick then? Or even ev6 vs taycan ?
I like the Porsche.....Although I bought a EV6 GT.
This is an odd review. Who in their right mind would buy a hideous Ford mini-van, over a Porsche. The Porsche is FAR better engineered, better to drive, and if most Porsches are anything to go by- better to own as well. I still can't believe that they are that close on price!
Even if they are identical in performance and build quality, you can't compare the ford to a Porsche.
You're either a Porsche owner. Or you drive a ford. Nobody else is going to care about the specs.
I guess the kicker is who’d buy the base-base porsche? you’d probably want 10k in options and then it stops being remotely a direct comparison.
6:26 Your overlay text lies about the 10-80 % charge time, should probably be 20 minutes.
The Ford is a FUV (Fast Utility Vehicle) but certainly not a SUV. A SUV, it is more a Macan GTS, Cayenne GT, Urus, Aston Martin DB707 etc etc - also after 1 year, which one will hold its value best ... that's the main question! For me it's a no brainer: Porsche all way long.
This is a difficult one. I love the Taycan. But that Mustang is very tempting as well. I'm stuck in the valley of decision.
I would rather have a Audi E-Tron GT 😎
All of these EV's are just a blast to drive, I love my Mach-E GT, doesn't have the supposed range of Tesla but I don't care. My experience is range is so much based how you drive, no different than an ICE vehicle, I can get anywhere from 220 to 300 per charge...depending on what I want to do! Cant wait till the battery tech gets even better! We need to invest in technology in America otherwise it will be done elsewhere, that's what those dinosaurs don't understand, keep up or go extinct!
You know Ford knocked it out of the park when they are comparing it to a Porsche.
4:50 “a full suite of driver assistance “
That’s just not true is it ? The Tesla (MY for example) has autopilot as standard. It will keep in lane and actually stop / start the car in traffic. All as standard. The Ford and Porsche cannot stop / start in traffic on their “driver assistant “.
We use our “autopilot” in stop and start traffic in the ford. Are we not meant to? It works fine.
Porsche!
Porsche everyday, mainly because I don't like SUVs
Neither
I'm with you man, the Taycan gets my vote, (even though I am a Ford Man currently driving a '66 Mustang)
I might be 75 yrs old but I don't need the practicality of the Mach E, and I don't need a high performance SUV.
All the qualities of the Taycan can be summed up in one word. PORSCHE. 👍🏼
The FORD MUSTANG all day....Way better looks...
Silly does it
Taycan in cross tourismo
Bicycle…
Porsche all day long.
Seriously, this is a silly question. Doesn't matter if the ford has triple the specs of the Porsche. Truth is it needs all that performance to excuse its price tag. Porsche doesn't need any excuse to be expensive. It's made by Porsche.
This is like comparing a Rolex to a Casio.
When you're driving along or telling your mates about it, nobody will care about the specs. One is a ford. The other is a Porsche. End of discussion.
Porsche for sure lol.
Lol what kind of comparison is this.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
May I please trade either for a ... Tesla?
Why nearly everyone's got one.
@@briankavanagh7191 The software, over-the-air reliable upgrades and charging seems to be far more reliable, available and very easy ... just to name few reasons. Perhaps that is why everyone wants one 😄
@@alexgray1905 tesla the new Ford model T, remember elons opening the chargers up to all. 🤔

@@briankavanagh7191 Always makes me laugh when people say such things. And why would you get something subpar and less value for money just to be different makes my mind boggle.
The Porsche is 2WD … it has the performance of a turd.
The base spec Taycan is ugly from the front ! Even uglier than a fish-face Model Y 🤦♂️
Both are crap vs Tesla. Both are just basic EV's with short range and less safety in a crash.
a Tesla
A base Taycan Sport Turismo rather than the saloon would be my preferred option.
I'd rather have anything other than another bloody SUV.
So I’ve 70 plus grant to spend. Do I buy a Dagenham dustbin, or a Porsche? Let me see🤔🤔🤔
Screw the Taycan, get a 911. When you got £70k to spend, does fuel costs really matter?
@@L.A.T.E.84 I’ve owned a Taycan 4S for two years. Trust me, it’s the right choice, bugs and all. . . .
@@L.A.T.E.84 Yes it does :)
Better still, buy a 2-year-old Taycan 4s the next model up with 4WD and a 90kW battery and a nice set of options which would have cost the original owner £100K, which go for about £75K, keep it for 3-4 years and sell. You will get much more money back because the residual value for the used Taycan after 3-4 years will probably be north of 80% compared the Ford which will more like 50%. Sounds counter-intuitive but do the maths and you'll see that way the Taycan will be cheaper to run than the Ford because depreciation is the biggest cost in running any car and Porsche are top of the list when it comes to the lowest depreciation.
Add all that time you will have the pleasure of driving a Porsche vs the Ford, which is worth far more, I know which i would go for.
Aesthetically, I don't like either 🤷 just my humble..
Mach e GT everytime
Given the choice, I'd have the Ford because it's still cheaper and better finished but then given the choice I'd have neither as both are far too expensive to buy as not everyone wants a lease car as some of us are doing more mileage than a lease could justify plus some of us prefer to own our own cars rather than lease and the price of both cars would buy me alot of diesel for a very long time. Bottom line no.
I want to see a sport Mustang low coup open top option 👌 not keen on SUVs. So Porsche agree 👍 with you. 5 seconds to 60 bit slow, our i3S nearly as quick as Porsche and great fun wish BMW built a AWD i3M 😁😁
The most pointless comparison.
When BMW eventually gets around to creating a Taycan comparison then it makes sense.
Compare a Porsche Taycan to a Mercedes EQS?
The i4 is out there already in 40 and M50 spec
@@benpenagonzales6014 BMW needs a newer i8. The i4 is in a lower class
I think Porsche forgot what decade they're in with that interior color, welcome to the hideous 70's color choices.
this is just ridiculous. These cars don't even compete with eachother.
Mmm, we love the smell of clickbait in the morning…..
Ford SUV - I’ll stick to 911’s for Porsches
Taycan because it has a better inteaor
Honest answer. NEITHER.
Ford. They're better at EVs.
Porsche all day long
I want a Porsche.
MACH E GT PLEASE..
If you buy for the long term it is likely the Porsche will still be worth quite a lot but a ten year old Ford probably won't be. The Mustang is just another horrible looking SUV ro me too. I'm going to love that kind of performance on all the local 50 mph limited dual carriageways.
I wouldn't want to be associated with anything named Mustang.
This is for the company car crowd. I've considered both. Tax free! And when else in your life are most mortals going to buy a brand new porsche?
Holy shiiii...just realized it's the 60s all over again!! Ford vs Porsche 🤣🤣
67k for a Ford. Insane money.
What are the insurance differences?
Short answer alot compared with your average petrol or diesel car. It's the one thing apart from the price of the car that everybody misses! Even the MG5 is group 25 minimum so I would imagine both of these aren't far off twice that. My own car is group 18 and I'm reluctant to go much beyond that if I'm honest.
Porsche, like the Mustang is probably very good as a family SUV for people who don’t like driving that much.
I bought a blue Mach E GT Performance and love it...
I own a Mach e GT but can not be compared to a $225k Taycan Turbo S.
Doesn't feel like a contest if money isn't factored in
Neither just a Leaf or Zoe would do me
Eerrr, £75 pounds more for a Porsche over an electric Focus in drag... didn't need to waste 11 minutes to come to this conclusion. Desirability and is the word.
I would go for a mid-spec. Mach E.
Less anxiety about possible theft, and no anxiety about leaving my breakfast on the back window.
It’s a Ford. Based on recent past experience they are ridiculously easy to steal.
@@ma40 The higher the performance and the greater the prestige, the more likelihood of a car attracting the attention of professional thieves - and they don't need to break into the car to steal it. They only need to get hold of the keys.
@@davidellis1079 no…. lol.
Both are just as impossible to steal, I wouldnt worry about that in your decision.
I can't afford a car
Taycan automatic lane centering is like drunk driver so has to be Mach-E for me. And Mach-E cornering seems quite good enough unless on race track
if you need the car to keep you in the center of a road you probably shouldn't be driving
@@MrDead1975 I like future tech. I admit though that many Taycan owners won't care for the car driving itself!
Why no Tesla in this comparison?
I had high hopes that your channel would help to reset the conversation around car culture and value efficiency and quietness over resource-heavy, willy-waving performance. But no, just reverting to petrolhead form, albeit with a green rinse.

In fairness, this particular video is a bit of 'fun' for Tom Ford - his normal take on EVs is absolutely comfort, range and value-for-money...
I mean, hell... he absolutely raves about the MG5 Estate...! 😂
@@jonathantaylor1998 Granted. But this type of ‘fun’ does nothing but perpetuate the fallacy that speed and power are the most desirable attributes of personal vehicles. With two EV’s that contribute very little to the overall move towards more sustainable transport.
