  • This was the very first "Direct Connection" spot with a voice over, which eventually went from this happy sounding guy, to the scary horror movie type announcer on later versions (which that one was voiced by the usual KYW promo voice of the day).

Wow I remember this well, I was just about 14 at the time, and
recall what a complete crash and burn this format of news was for
KYW TV 3. It was like a spectacular train wreck you knew it was
horrible but you can't stop watching the carnage. Hahaaa

I remember Beverly Williams & (I think) Vince Leonard or Patrick Emory wearing black turtlenecks in some of the commercials, too. I’m 57 now and why I would even remember this is beyond me. That said, it was an epic fail and it didn’t last long. Direct Connection it was not. LOL!!!!

watershed44 is absolutely correct. I just wonder what they hoped to accomplish by this. What was the point? Were previously newscasts not as "directly connected?"

Previous newscasts didn't have a Donna Summer knockoff for music.

Remember this was before the time of the internet, and even live feeds were still pretty new (Microwave links to the studio from the trucks) They were really trying for a fast paced format to keep your attention, yes this was probably the very beginning of America's short attention span!

Whomever it was that developed this format style has appeared to keep themselves hidden from public view for many decades! hahaa
