My sister whom is 29 was diagnosed with MS two weeks ago after loosing her vision completely 5 days of 1000mg steroids were not effective for her optic neuritis. Today she was admitted to the hospital for the next 10 days and over those days she will receive the PLEX treatment in hopes of her vision coming back.
Yes, plasmapheresis was magical when i had optic neuritis and after five rounds of it i regained ninety percent vision in my left eye. I cant be more thankful for my doctor kunal behrani who treated me successfully through this technique.
Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant is a proven treatment in MS, though it is not very commonly used in routine cases because of the risks. Modern trials actually show relatively low treatment-related mortality of around 0.5%. Take a look at this JAMA article about a recent trial on the topic: jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2720728
I can't claim to be an expert in systemic sclerosis, but this review article suggests it could be beneficial: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2397198318758606
Curious about the difference between this and the possibility of using IVIG instead? Or thoughts of IVIG in general for MS patients- what are your thoughts?
Sorry. I can't answer direct questions about your specific situation here, so I would suggest you talk with your provider, and I wish you the best of luck.
