    I don’t get the “certain cars are made for certain ages” type of concept. I’m SURE Subaru didn’t design this car for 16 year olds or college guys. There’s no such thing. I’m 42 and after owning a Volvo S90 for 5 years, I just got a new WRX and in my reality, that means actually moving forward, not backwards. It all depends on what you want at that point of your life, and not how old you are.

    Seems a bit over the top to be hating on a pretty basic safety feature like a fasten seatbelt chime. Other than that it was a pretty decent review. 👍

  • @dantags98

    if you clip/ unclip the seatbelt like 30 times it actually disables the driver side seatbelt chime, really helps when you're moving cars around the driveway or just scooting along in a parking lot

    I have no problem spooling the turbo in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gear, the only gear that has issues spooling is 1st because it's so short you don't get alot of time of on throttle before redline.

    The sti wasn't made because it couldn't meet cafe standards. The wrx itself is already in motion to be discontinued atleast as a gas powered only car (the vb is most likely the last generation)
    The sti was in the works as a vb, just take a look at the coin tray in a vb wrx, the dccd from the va fits perfectly in it.

    I’m hoping some opinions will help me. Background: I’ve been a VAG guy for 20+ years. Repairing, modifying and tuning my cars, as well as my kids. Been driving an Arteon SEL Premium R-Line for 5 years. The last 4 sporadically for health issues. I have no intention to trade it in. It’s been paid off for 2 years. Since I’m not driving 60 miles a day anymore and family road trips are over, I’m looking for an “adult” small car, manual transmission that I can tune and still be a comfortable sleeper. The Acura ITS, WRX Limited, and a used 21’ GLI interest me. The 21’ GLI because it’s the last year before capacitive touch crap. VAG cars were easy to tune. Several Passats (5), 2 GTI’s, and several SEL Jetta’s for our kids. I want comfortable driving while doing everyday activities, but also want to be able to open it up when the urge overcomes me.
    - Are any of the 2 non-VAG cars easy to work on.
    - Easy to tune.
    - Aftermarket parts that don’t scream “look at me”.
    - Comfortable ride or able to be modified to do so.
    - I’m not a fan of CVT’s, heard this CVT is good.
    I’m looking for Goldilocks essentially. ✌️

    Have any of you check the accessory options. Because under the STI is a better exhuast, a short throw shifter etc. Also it has folding rear seats to allow more rear cargo room. The auto only trasnmission isn't the only difference between the TR and GT trim level. The TR doesn't have a moonroof but the GT does. Honestly they should have had the GT as a manual with the auto as an option.

  • @AlanAnt
    @AlanAnt 4 месяца назад +6

    Needs research. There are big differences between the TR and GT models. The TR is manual only, Brembo brakes, 19” wheels, stiffer suspension, steering, and chassis. There is no sunroof option. The GT is SPT only, 18” wheels, adjustable dampers, adjustable steering, 5 drive modes, sunroof. The TR and GT come with Ricaro seats.

    I just bought this exact car last weekend, same color. I am enjoying it alot. Im 36 and It's my first manual car. Probably the 2nd manual 4-wheel vehicle ive ever driven.
    I drive trucks for a living, i learned to drive stick in an 18 wheeler.
    Theres a bit of a learning curve to driving this car smoothly. It seems like it doesnt like being in 1st gear, it feels jerky driving around in 1st in a parking lot. And the transition from 1st to 2nd is not simple to smoothly do. Ive driven trucks with non synchronized transmissions that shift smoother.
    Do you have any advice on how to smoothen out those first two gears?

    • @LivingLikeGray
      @LivingLikeGray  Месяц назад

      Don’t bang through 1-2 and don’t shift at a low rpm. Being smooth is key to everything with this car.

    I enjoyed this review. In regard to being a good first car for a 16 year old, in this country at least (Australia) a 16 year old is not allowed to drive, and definetly not a WRX, due to P plate (provisional licence) restrictions. And there may be a good reason for that. My own driving, on country roads, commenced at 10 years of age, so I cant really moralize about that law.
    Secondly, technically speaking you may have been correct about the narrow (maximum)useable power band 0f 1200rpm. Torque is an important element of power, and some would say the Most important. Like a lot of turbo cars the WRX has a big fat flat torque curve from 2500 rpm to 5000 rpm. It is only from that point that horse power is greater than torque. It is torque that responds best to tuning, and torque that is responsible for so much driving pleasure. I rest my case.
    I am probably old enough to be your Grand Father, so I hope you can cut me some slack in regard to these comments. Thanks again for the review. I hope to have a WRX sooner rather than later.

    I don’t think this is a car for a teenager or someone in college. I don’t know many parents that would buy that as their kids first car. And a broke college kid is not buying that car. This is for someone who has a well paying job and has their life together. I would also recommend being over 25 because of insurance. The average young person cannot afford this car and everything that comes with owning a car like this.
