I thought i'd never see a American driving a old Volvo 240! (I think its a 240) Im a Swede...
There are a lot. I was a Volvo certified mechanic. The 240 is one of the best cars ever made! A 240 is on my list for the next project car.

Because you are using stock road cars... Plus there is rally and hill climb in America.
I feel like rally could be popular here in the states, it just needs the proper recognition, and not what F1 had (DTS)
