I hit the rear brakes going into a skid, leaned back to moved my center of mass to the rear so that if we hit I wouldn't go over the handlebars... he saw me braking, turned towards me, spread his legs to straddle the front tire and put his hands out to cushion my handlebars... That's what i thought the whole time watching this. If he wants to put his own life at risk that's on him, but he could have easily smashed into a pedestrian or caused a car accident like a bunch of times just during this video. Maybe it just looks more dangers than it is. The guy said he had been doing that most of his life. If he never hurt another person doing this, it's still reckless but i guess it's not so bad. But if he ever hurt one person doing this, and he still is doing it, than fuck that guy.

Not just pedestrians, cars behind him constantly hit breaks to avoid riding him over creating breaking snake reactions who knows how far away. 1 minute of this guy cycling on road probably slows down traffic by some 1hr if time of everyone who suffered chain reaction is added up. Dumbest thing I've ever seen on road.
33 seconds in and we witness a near collision with a child, which was avoided only thanks to the awareness of another pedestrian. You couldn't have picked a worse image to show against the commentary of "effortless riding". Terry's footage is thrilling to watch, but very often the people that he films are reckless (and following such people seems even more dangerous, because you have less control over timing and trajectory... I'm amazed that he has been able to do this for as long as he has without a major accident). Give other road users the respect that you want for yourself.
That's incredibly rude and dangerous driving. Fluid or not, nearly rides into pedestrians, slows traffic and one unsuspecting move and he can easily cause an accident to himself and others.
I have been cycling for a very long time too. It’s one my coveted hobbies but this type of riding is selflish and apathetic to other pedestrians safety. I can guarantee that he won’t be around for a few more years riding like that

Been cycling for years in Montreal in a similar fashion. Ive commuted daily, all seasons for nearly a decade and I get that Mtl is no New York with its curved streets and many potholes and having way less people - can't imagine what it's like to bike in New York City - however I can say this dude takes unnecessary risks. He actually elevates his risk with the way he positions himself on the road. The turn with the motorcyclist, insanity. He's only thinking one or two moves ahead. With a single speed, you need to be planning much further in advance. It's really not impressive if you're just a danger to yourself and others.

Have been riding busy city streets since the 80s, so I don't mind riding through the urban environment at speed, keeping up with or overtaking slower vehicles, moving from a different lane/filtering etc WHEN IT IS SAFE to do so. However there are times here where the rider puts other vulnerable road users (i.e. pedestrians) at an unacceptable risk/causing then to fear harm and also going for a line/gap that simply isn't necessary. This IS NOT safe and is poor grasp of what's safe/acceptable and what isn't. If someone did the things the courier were doing to them they would hate it, and yet here we are. At the crossings, they have no chance if a ped is legitimately walking across the road. Whilst I can admire the handling skills and SOME of the decision making, there's far too much of this stuff that is disrespectful, shitty riding that echo's that of a moron behind the wheel and sooner rather than later ends with someone getting hurt.
He also gives 0 fucks that cars around him hit on breaks to avoid potential collisions and create chain reaction of breaking that significantly slows down traffic a mile behind him.
They truly are amazing... NYC bike messengers used to rule the streets...emails begin to change this. However, some still grace our streets with their skill like no other.

How many rules you want to break? Answer: YES In my opinion this is so stupid. Sure he is freaking fast and it looks fun and even the police doesn't care. i didn’t even bother stamping the incredibly reckless way of weaving in between cars because that’s basically the entire video
This has to be one of most reckless bike riding video I’ve ever watched… total disregard for everyone else. If I was Terry Barentsen I would be doing the community a service videoing and handing it over to police.
american police wouldnt be able to catch him, theyre too slow in cars with traffic and too slow and fat on foot
@@visceraeyes525 AAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAA. get a life . APPLAUSE HIS BRAVERY AND stop hating
@@Staria23 probablt cuckokd car drivers stucj in traffic all day!
@@visceraeyes525 taze him, problem solved.
@@Staria23 , he is endangering others. He really should be arrested and fined thousands.
As a German, I would like to remind you once again of the function of a RED light: It means standing still and waiting for green.
Ok they're just like the French, chaos, disorder, idiots students jaywalking.
Come on dude, I'm an avid cyclist who commutes by bike, and I think what you did was reckless. You could have easily injured yourself or other pedestrians and cyclists. Yes NYC's bike infrastructure needs to improve, but please don't give cyclists a bad name by riding recklessly.
That dude is a statistic waiting to happen. Did you notice how vehicles were FORCED to avoid him?
As a driver I am always looking left right for bikers , I can’t say for bicycle with no brakes , surprised New York allowed this crap
0:30 He had such fast and fluid movement *hits pedestrian*
IMO, when you use the lane, you should obey the lamp. If you feel like you don't want to stop at red, don't use the road way. As simple as that.
So now you all know why I moved t.f away from New York and came to Colorado baby. Open fresh land with friendly people and you can drive a car up to 80mph here and all you have to hit and run are flies and other bugs. 😃
wonder how long it'll be before theres an opening for a bike messenger position?
This looks cool from my perspective sitting on a couch but if I were a driver, they'd definitely piss me off the way they're coming out of nowhere
This is nothing. I once navigated around a pothole at slow speed on my hybrid bike. Talk about a rush.
You think that's impressive? I once failed to turn around a corner properly snd hit the curb and only got 2 bruises
Stop you lot, I'm hyperventilating with excitement....... Where's my inhaler?!
I once fell badly from my bike trying to adjust the saddle while moving, after my gf had use it, I don't know how I thought that was a good idea.
I once rode my bike and only when I got home did I realize I didn't have the seat on.
i once rode a bike. then proceeded to fall and dislocate my ankle. i was very proud of myself, although thats as far as ive ever gotten with riding a bike
How many rules you want to break?
Answer: YES
In my opinion this is so stupid. Sure he is freaking fast and it looks fun and even the police doesn't care. But you put yourself and what's even more important every other person on the street in danger. Imagine a driver who didn't see you coming throw the steering wheel to the side not to hit you. Maybe your bike is light and cannot do much damage. But think about that driver who's driving a big fat truck running over pedestrians...
Break**
