This Ven Pongal used to be in the menu of many Udupi Hotels of Mumbai during the 60-70s. No idea why it went missing..
We prepared it today. It was very good 👍

Vah re vah... that’s was my expression after eating pongal the way you prepared
Hi Sir, We love the way you teach us cooking. You make it so simple and interesting. We simply love you. I have a small suggestion. The items like pongal, bisibela bath are kind of traditional Brahmin foods, and usually they don't have onion, garlic, and it makes them more authentic way of doing.
Thank you guru . Even today I see this video just to see you how nicely to do the presentation! The original vahchef;)
More than the reciepes u r words and cooking surroundings r more more adding taste to the dishes

Hi
When would the Rice and Dal be washed? Do I need to wash, dry and then roast or should I roast and then wash ? Do I need to soak the rice and Dal in water for some time ?
Regards
Vivek
I know this is late, but if it helps, don't roast with ghee.
Just dry roast it, cool, then wash.
Thanks chef
very nice n very easy way to make..thanks man

Great. Pongal is my favorite. What kind of rice is better for this? Parboiled or basmati
Regular rice
Hi very easy to cook.. Superb recipe. Have a question.. Can you confirm if adding ginger is optional in this recipe or not. I don't like to add ginger pieces like that normally. Thank you
Thanks. You can skip ginger if you don't like. You can add ginger garlic paste too.
You should not add Garlic in ven pongal at all...Garlic can be optional...
Go chef...you rocked it 😆
Superb sir
Superb... 👌👌
Came out awesome!! Thanks...
Sai Shyam Kolachalama Wonderful.
just made this but when roasting the dry mixture could not smell the aromatics! I wish we could smell your cooking as well as seeing it. BIG SMILE also 4 whistles is how long?? and did you let the steam out naturally or force with cold water.
Naturally

Hi,sir that's nice recipe. How about we take 3:1 means 3 cups of dal and 1 cup of rice ?
Thank you Chef
Awesome recipe
Super yummy
Dear vahchef, amazing video. However, generally there is no green chilli for veNpongal. Its just black pepper and cumin seeds.
M ur big fan..
Is it moong daal or tuar daal /peason pea (arhar daal)???
Dear chef,
Addition of 1 cup of milk makes this venpongal more tasty. The consistency will not become thick even after cools down.
Thanks for the tip. At what point in the recipe should we add the milk?
