I came here because of this phrase
I love Ace Hardware! I always tell everyone I have to go to Ace and find the old man with the glasses in the hardware section! He is the Oracle and knows all!
There to expensive
Great video. I was trying to explain rivets to my 23 year old son. He asked why they didn't just weld instead, and I explained to him that some things need to flex and move. Thanks for the video.
Great point!

Someone who runs a hardware store and knows all the stuff in there and what it's all for and how you use it, is an unsung hero in my opinion. I love it when I can go someplace and explain what I need to do - without knowing the proper names, and the person understands what I am talking about and gets me what I need, or suggests other ways of doing what I need to do. Legends.
Every hero's journey starts with a rivet gun and a great tutorial. Thanks!

I love Ace Hardware vs the HD or Lowes. At Ace, you get great customer service and a knowledgeable person helping you out. Even giving lessons like this. They may be more expensive but you'll get treated right without chasing someone down in the big box stores.
Thanks so much!
Ace is the only place I can find all sizes of SS and Cu rivets! Awesome video thanks!
Great video! Always love ACE Hardware. They are personal, helpful, and knowledgeable. Thanks for helping me figure out how to complete a riveting project.
Simple advice. Worked just as in the video. I had a riveter and two boxes of rivets all 30 years old. Never used it before, someone gave them to me when I helped him move an industrial printer from a storage locker. I stuck it into a random bin at home and never used it till today. Low and behold the riveter and rivets were Ace Hardware brand, just like the video. How about that.
Thank you!! I've done without this tool for years, and it could have come in handy many times! Better than drilled holes and zip ties!
Thank you for this great, complete and short tutorial! Greetings from Chile!
Planning to buy rivet gun at Ace Hardware here in our area but don't know how to use. This is really helpful. Thank you!
The part of the rivet that goes into the rivet gun is called the mandrel, and the part that stays in the material is called the rivet body. It is also important to use a rivet that meets the material thickness. I sell rivets, and it's important to get the correct rivet for the application.
I think its called a rivet shank the part that stays in.

I am a homeowner with a day job who does not do anything construction related for a living. That being said I am working on framing out my basement and Bought this ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt gun. I have done a few walls already, have probably shot a couple hundred nails through this thing and have yet to have a misfire. It works awesome, good depth on every nail if you have your compressor set right. My literal only complaint is that it is a bit heavy and my arm can get a little tired especially whrn I am nailing at odd angles. That being said I am super happy with it and would buy it again. Hoping the old girl allows me to get my whole basement finished out!
Just ordered one online, can’t wait to use it! Thanks for teaching me how to use the tool!!
Just bought mine at Walmart for 6 bucks it works great for me and basic needs.. it's amazing the uses for these
I have seen these around for so long. My dad used them all the time and had so many rivet guns around. I always could never figure out how it operated. I feel dumb now, lol. But great video.
real question is.... why didn't he teach you?
Now I gotta go out and get some corner bead cause I learned the holes are supposed to be filled with rivets. I told them tapers they were full of hot air! Awesome video my main man!!!!!
Whoa. This guy is a very good instructor! Nice job.
Thank you very much for helping me understand how a rivet works.
Thanks Ace guy! I have one and don't know if I'll ever use it but at least I know how!
Great video! Now I know how I’m going mount my Starcraft emblems to my 14’ aluminum boat! I already have the gun and rivets just didn’t know how to use it properly
Thanks, man. I always wondered how rivets work. I'm planning to go see about an old 70s aluminum camper shell in the next day or so, and it's clear in the ad photos that some of the roof is detatched. I was trying to think of how I would go about closing her up so that wind doesn't catch under there and tear her apart before I can fix her properly. Rivets seem like the way to go; maybe with a few thick beads of silicone or liquid nail
yes exactly. i've used epoxy when working with aluminum boats as well.
super helpful thank you. bought one at a garage sale and had never used one before, great tutorial. what if you have 2 thin pieces of material to join, are there rivets that leave less sticking out the back? can you use an angle grinder to shorten the nub on the backside, or is the pin essentially pulling the metal tube up/into itself, so cutting it would release the tension and the hold?
excellent! thanks. I bought mine years ago, I'm using it for the first time today :)
Ha Ha. You made me feel better. I bought mine months ago and just trying it now. 😂
Found a New never been opened Stanley Rivet gun like the one you featured at an Estate Sale for $8. Never used one before now I'm getting all sorts of idea on what I could do with it. Thanks for the video.

I just ordered the Loki+ this past weekend along with the new Mani 2 and hope to get them by this coming weekend. I've been EQing my music since the 80s and I don't care what others think. I like what I like! I might have to try the Bellari on my living room's system some day.
thank you, my wifes 2007 prius has speakers that are riveted in, I drilled them out and now I am going to replace the reivets to keep an OEM look. thanks

My 1st time using a riveter. Thx for the vid.
Riveting so much easier than welding for putting two plates of metal together, usually looks much prettier if done well too.
Thanks for the helpful video.
Thanks for great video. What if you need it flat on both sides ?
Hi There,
That’s called a double cap rivet and you can get those its a different method to secure. A base and hammer are used. Hope this helps!

How do you put together the holding mechanism of the Dewalt swivel head riveter. While adjusting the top portion of the gun all the pieces fell out. There was a spring and three smaller pieces that dropped out and I was unsure how they fitted back into the barrel.
