Someone who runs a hardware store and knows all the stuff in there and what it's all for and how you use it, is an unsung hero in my opinion. I love it when I can go someplace and explain what I need to do - without knowing the proper names, and the person understands what I am talking about and gets me what I need, or suggests other ways of doing what I need to do. I love Ace Hardware! I always tell everyone I have to go to Ace and find the old man with the glasses in the hardware section! He is the Oracle and knows all!
Great video. I was trying to explain rivets to my 23 year old son. He asked why they didn't just weld instead, and I explained to him that some things need to flex and move. Thanks for the video.
The best part is that the video not only introduces the tool but also guides from preparation to use and maintenance. This helps viewers better understand the product and make the most of its capabilities.
I love Ace Hardware vs the HD or Lowes. At Ace, you get great customer service and a knowledgeable person helping you out. Even giving lessons like this. They may be more expensive but you'll get treated right without chasing someone down in the big box stores.
thank you, my wifes 2007 prius has speakers that are riveted in, I drilled them out and now I am going to replace the reivets to keep an OEM look. thanks
Simple advice. Worked just as in the video. I had a riveter and two boxes of rivets all 30 years old. Never used it before, someone gave them to me when I helped him move an industrial printer from a storage locker. I stuck it into a random bin at home and never used it till today. Low and behold the riveter and rivets were Ace Hardware brand, just like the video. How about that.
Now I gotta go out and get some corner bead cause I learned the holes are supposed to be filled with rivets. I told them tapers they were full of hot air! Awesome video my main man!!!!!
The part of the rivet that goes into the rivet gun is called the mandrel, and the part that stays in the material is called the rivet body. It is also important to use a rivet that meets the material thickness. I sell rivets, and it's important to get the correct rivet for the application.

I am a homeowner with a day job who does not do anything construction related for a living. That being said I am working on framing out my basement and Bought this ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt gun. I have done a few walls already, have probably shot a couple hundred nails through this thing and have yet to have a misfire. It works awesome, good depth on every nail if you have your compressor set right. My literal only complaint is that it is a bit heavy and my arm can get a little tired especially whrn I am nailing at odd angles. That being said I am super happy with it and would buy it again. Hoping the old girl allows me to get my whole basement finished out!
Thanks, man. I always wondered how rivets work. I'm planning to go see about an old 70s aluminum camper shell in the next day or so, and it's clear in the ad photos that some of the roof is detatched. I was trying to think of how I would go about closing her up so that wind doesn't catch under there and tear her apart before I can fix her properly. Rivets seem like the way to go; maybe with a few thick beads of silicone or liquid nail

Great explainer video. Thank you! The part that showed the compression of the rivet when you squeeze the handle helped me understand how a rivet gun actually works. Heading to the ACE in my neighborhood today :)
super helpful thank you. bought one at a garage sale and had never used one before, great tutorial. what if you have 2 thin pieces of material to join, are there rivets that leave less sticking out the back? can you use an angle grinder to shorten the nub on the backside, or is the pin essentially pulling the metal tube up/into itself, so cutting it would release the tension and the hold?
I just ordered the Loki+ this past weekend along with the new Mani 2 and hope to get them by this coming weekend. I've been EQing my music since the 80s and I don't care what others think. I like what I like! I might have to try the Bellari on my living room's system some day.

I just purchased the exact tool you used in the video, and I have siding that is pulling away from my home. Will the rivets in the kit hold the siding?
Hi Joel, If the siding is pulling away it's our best guess the nailing strip you cannot see is what is pulling away. Typically you separate the connections between the siding to expose the nailing strip, install new nails or screws, not all the way tight and the clip the siding back into place. There is a tool that helps do the siding separation, take a look at it in the link below. www.acehardware.com/departments/tools/hand-tools/wrecking-bars/5095211?store=14081&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhY-aBhCUARIsALNIC07h-pFM725rdpVtIEQRNFChp-B5p-tsP3bko4MDCxdxKo17xueURT0aAtgkEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

My ace branded rivet tool has a little piece of metal or solid wire coming out of the middle of the hole that prevents the rivet from being inserted. Where did that come from or what is it for?
I just bought a manual pop rivet gun that came with 4 sizes of rivets that match the adapters, and i can't get it to work! I'm testing it on 1mm steel plate with a hole to match the rivet size, the rivet shaft is the right size for the adapter but when i squeeze nothing happens and i don't feel any more resistance than the handle. Is there something i'm missing ?
You need a different rivet tool one for crimping two sided flush rivets. These are used a lot in both marine and aircraft applications. Hope this helps!
How do you put together the holding mechanism of the Dewalt swivel head riveter. While adjusting the top portion of the gun all the pieces fell out. There was a spring and three smaller pieces that dropped out and I was unsure how they fitted back into the barrel.
Hi Khushal, The material you are working with does not matter as long as the holes are the proper size for the rivet. Keep in mind a metal rivet is stronger than plastic. Hope this helps!

My ace branded rivet tool has a little piece of metal or solid wire coming out of the middle of the hole that prevents the rivet from being inserted. Where did that come from or what is it for?
Hi There,
It could be a broken stem from an old rivet. That bit unscrews and then the metal pin should be easy to remove. Hopefully this helps!
Your example was on one piece of metal. You might explain that it’s used to hold two pieces of metal together.
Hey Dennis, Thanks for the suggestion!
What are the different size washers that come with the packet of rivets used for? Thickness of material?
thank you positive man ,hallo from Croatia
Do you snip off the long bit after you've riveted ?
I just bought a manual pop rivet gun that came with 4 sizes of rivets that match the adapters, and i can't get it to work! I'm testing it on 1mm steel plate with a hole to match the rivet size, the rivet shaft is the right size for the adapter but when i squeeze nothing happens and i don't feel any more resistance than the handle. Got it working! Turns out i have to push the rivet in while the handles are squeezed, so i guess it needs to bite on to it at first ?
Is there anyway to make both sides flush? I wanna use on my jon boat
You need a different rivet tool one for crimping two sided flush rivets. These are used a lot in both marine and aircraft applications. Hope this helps!
Would this work for armour? I'm looking to use a traditional rivert rather than welding
How do you put together the holding mechanism of the Dewalt swivel head riveter. While adjusting the top portion of the gun all the pieces fell out. There was a spring and three smaller pieces that dropped out and I was unsure how they fitted back into the barrel.
