Your commentary is as real.. unpretentious and honest as Globe Trecker...used to be!!!!!! DAMN!!! INCREDIBLE!!! Don't lose that quality!!! Justine and Ian were hosts...
Kudos to you and mighty Navika! Navika is such a beautiful boat. All that gorgeous wood gives her boundless character and makes her as special as her sailors! Can’t wait to see your Caribbean cruising! ☯️
Congratulations on crossing the "pond" and welcome to Paradise. Welcome to the Caribbean which was my home for 40+ years. I initially went to Puerto Rico for a 2 week vacation between advanced degrees at UCLA in California and never went back for the PhD. There is something about every single island that you will love... especially the people. Cheers!!!
Great set of episodes crossing the Atlantic. I really felt you captured the joy of sailing and your commentary was always insightful and full of warmth. Thanks so much and congratulations.
Think you'll get used to arriving somewhere new with your soul, rather than having to wait for it to catch you up. An old one, but true. Low impact achievement, not high speed damage, and all that. Anyway great video, happy sailing.
Thank you, thats all I can say, was great comming along with you all the way from Mallorca.... cant wait for the next aventures!!! Gracias, gracias, gracias!!!
Congratulations on your safe passage! You went thru all the range of emotions that there are in every phase of passage making. Navika did well for you and delivered you safely to the Carribean! Could not ask for more! Enjoy!
Congratulations guys. What an achievement. You should be very proud. Looking forward to following your adventures in the other side of the Atlantic. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for this and previous episodes! I enjoy watching your beautiful pictures and to hear your reflections about what sailing does to you, and how cool it is to actually cross waters, end especially oceans! Wish you the best and hope to see more soon!
Congratulations guys. Excellent camera work and editing giving us three great videos of the crossing. Thank you. Perhaps you need some form of bungee cord on that vang.
Hi. I’d swap the kicker so the block which you attached to the ring on the deck would go on the bottom of mast. This will take most the load and also be even when you let boom in or out as the angles are aligned, then you can run the final block to align with the fair lead aft. Good luck.
Have you tried a more stretchy line on the vang? When your boat was new it would have been fitted with low tech non pre-stretched polyester line. Shock loadings would have been absorbed in the line stretch, but modern ropes especially spectra will not stretch resulting in high peak loads and broken gear. Try Dacron/polyester line or even nylon with a polyester cover. You can vang the boom down with a tackle to the rail if you have a strong enough padeye on the rail. A proper preventer which runs from boom end to the bow and back to the cockpit will also control sail twist. Let the boom out a bit further than you want, make the preventer fast and then tension the mainsheet. This will tighten the leech of the main. The preventer should not be spectra or other low stretch material
Congratulations!!! What an incredible feeling that must be, what an accomplishment!! 🍻 Great video as usual! By the way, your teak decks look amazing for the age of your boat. I have a 1982 Hans Christian and we ended up removing the teak decks, too hot here in the Caribbean and unfortunately it was time! I wish I still had them on the boat because they look so awesome…..but the upkeep 🤦🏻♂️ If you guys make it to the eastern side of Puerto Rico after hurricane season. let me know, wife and I will finally be moving to our boat that is in Fajardo next month full time! 🙌🏻👍🏻
Hey guys! Felt pretty sweet to arrive yes! Yeah thanks, we actually completely renovated the teak decks ourselves when we bought the boat (it was a HUGE job 😅) We're really happy with the outcome but obviously with the sun they start to turn gray pretty quickly. Anyway! Oh cool yes we'll definitely let you know if we're around that part of Puerto Rico, would love to see your boat! Hans Crhistians are beautiful.
@@NavikaSailing sounds good! Would love to pick your brain about replacing the teak decks, mine needs to be replaced in the cockpit!! 🙈 Cheers and congrats on the crossing!
Young dude dolphins showing off for Alex even in the middle of no where. What more can you ask. Remind me please, the Bahamas eventually, correct? You guys have me jonesing for a big adventure. Congrats … you are all legends
Congratulations 👏 guys, well done, amazing!!! I found your channel a few days ago and binge watched every one of them!!!Absolutely love your video’s!!! Looking forward to your future travels. Take care.
Huge milestone!…I assume you realize how sweet that passage was compared to what it could have been…either really good planning , amazing luck, or both…about that vang…it seems that if you broaden the load with larger fitting it would make the difference…I would even consider removing the plate from the mast and placing on deck , through bolted and back plated … Cheers and congrats!
my boat is rigged with 4:1 block systems on each side attached to mid-boom and at toe rail on each side. This works as both a preventer and vang for downwind sailing. less forces with this line mid-boom and boom pulling up (trying to lift) at a 90 degree angle to both boom and deck. I hope this makes sense? easy to rig also. can send pics if needed.
Fantastic. So educational. Did you mean Vang? When you say kicking strap? Your traveller is so far forward beyond the dodger you should be ok. Hopefully. The main sheet will do the work
Aside from the obvious sailing content; the sails and surf and sunsets, I'm liking all the intellectual considerations and acknowledgements of mental state and mindset during this Atlantic crossing experience; as well as the logic and strategy of watch schedules and management of time zone adjustment. Thanks for all the zen! Big fan.
Thanks, yeah we wanted to remember the way we felt mentally along the way too so we decided to include it. It's something that we were trying to get a feel for as well before we set off but found it difficult to find any information about how it "feels" to cross - as well as more practical things like watch schedules and changing timezones etc. Glad you enjoyed it anyway, thanks for sharing!
Well done! I had a total belly laugh when Alex was talking about the flying fish. OMG. Smacked by something in the middle of the Atlantic. Do dolphin pods ever get old? I think not. I have seen enough passages to know yours was nice and smooth. Good job preparing. You stayed safe which is more important than all else. Well done.
Haha getting hit by the fish was such a shock! 😂 We're also really happy with how the crossing went. A lot of our friends who did it at the same time didn't have the same luck weather wise so shout out to our weather router and some wise calls which meant we had pleasant weather the whole way pretty much!
My husband and I have just finished binge watching your videos. You guys are now in our top 5 sailing chanels! And we watch a lot 🤣. You are so easy to watch and have a wonderful outlook on life. I'm just so envious of you both doing it at the ages you are. I've just turned 50 and my husband and I are in the process of saving and downsizing our STUFF so we can make your dream our reality. You both seem like genuinely lovely people and I'm thrilled that you're living your best life. Your parents must be extremely proud of you both. Keep doing what you're doing and live your BEST life ❤
Hey Catherine! Haha wow thank you, we're honoured to be in your top 5! Love that you guys are also saving for your big dream! Is that with a boat or something different? Either way, it'll be a lot of fun I'm sure! Keep at it :D
I think she wants to be a movie star. The camera is on her more than viewing the beautiful ocean. What makes these people think. They like to view some one face the whole way. Sorry but I have to turn off

Lars really nailed the deepest essence of sailing and the continuous mountains to climb! Congrats on first big one, promise to keep on going!
Congratulations on a great achievement. Also thanks so much for posting the 3 episodes on crossing the pond. Well done.

I believe now your channel will grow very fast. Adventures are where it's at & you nailed it in this great ep.
Thanks Earl! 🙏 Really kind
Congrats to you three, fantastic voyage and now you can enjoy the well deserved Caribbean!
Thanks Garry! 🥳🥳
Great video, enjoyed all the smiling and positive vibes even the "damn the torpedoes full steam ahead" sentiment from Alex.
Outstanding congrats! A thru U-bolt with large backing plate
Five things to do on a boat: 1. keep the crew on board 2. Keep the mast up 3. Keep the keel down 4. Keep the water out 5. Keep the rudder on.
Great episode and congratulations on your passage.
Great video..
Loved watching the passage. Looking forward to the Caribbean videos now.
Lots coming soon!

Well done! A great result! You need a DOWNHAUL (ask around) for your boom/mainsail combo!
You are a great captain! Excellent sail and well done! Enjoy seeing your trip and good boat handling! Cheers!!
Thanks Gary! It's a constant learning process but amazing challenge

D-ring needed to go through the deck and have a backing plate, not necessarily metal, thick green would work just fine.

Hahahaha she has a need for speed this girl 🤣😍
Omg, the same thing happened to me on the crossing!! I was alone on deck, in the dark an it hit me on the leg. I freaked out so much! :D Hahahaha
Hahaha no wayyy!! What are the chances??!! Caught me so off guard 😆😆
