I loved this movie when I watched it before getting married. This movie hits a whole Lot different when I have a daughter now!!! This is a masterpiece❤
This... is a film. Lightyears beyond the cinematic equivalent to fast food Hollywood churns out these days. It mesmerized me when I was young and getting high, to the point I wasnt sure it existed at all. As an adult, it hits a deep part of me like nothing else ever has
People never seem to understand this complex plot involves both time travel and the spirit world. They even make a remark that the spirit world time isnt the same as the material worlds.
I love all the connotations, and I think the big "bonk on the head" moment is that chaotic fight raging in the spirit world as John prays over his daughter in this one.
It just captures the emotions so well. we see him closed off in front of those who he thought betrayed him, but then when he's in the car going to what should be something great for his Career he cant be happy.
Every now and then I come back to this scene to watch it again and when I do, I still have to play it multiple times. It remains one of the most powerful, poignant scenes of any movie I've ever seen. Just absolutely beautiful.
I grew up Christian and while I found this movie after straying from the church, I was able to see a lot of similarities in the redemption arc. Now that I'm both back as a practicing Christian and a father to a little girl, this movie means so much more.
My only complaint with this movie was that the fight between the Drifters and Incubi wasn’t long enough lol, easy 10/10. Just like with video games, indie movies prove to be better
Tbh, the action of the scene wasn't really the point. That's why they cut out the sound effects. All that really mattered in that moment was the weight of Ink's final decision here. The other Storytellers arriving and fighting off the remaining Incubi, if that were the primary focus, Ink's decision would have less weight.
In every ones life there warrior side will step in even if not by choice the warrior always shows 2 of each side's 1:peace,love,honor,respect....2:hatred,death,destruction,sadness.....it's your choice on who you become
@Justus Bowman I have an alternate take on it. Ink is the physical manifestation of his spirit. It's what he looks like in the spirit world. Emma, the daughter, looks the same in the spirit world, because she is still pure and innocent. But the father's spirit is twisted, wracked with pain and shame and guilt. Hence, Ink. While his soul/spirit is wandering, lost and broken, a spirit of light (an angel if you will) joins his journey to remind him of the beautiful, wonderful parts of his life, and to show him what his life will end up being if he stays on his current path. If he chooses to remain numb and closed off and dead, his daughter will die and he will eventually commit suicide. The spirit of light manages to convince him to face and let go of his shame and guilt and live again. Making this choice, his spirit and Emma's return to their physical bodies. Throughout all of this, the forces of light and dark are locked in a desperate struggle to influence John's spirit either to destruction or redemption. It's a bit like A Christmas Carol, mixed with A Wrinkle In Time and The Matrix.
@@AStageForTheKingdom Exactly. Like Liev said before in the movie, time doesn't really exist in the other side. Some says that we are all "multidimensional", which means that even if we live in the physical world, a part of our "higher self" / soul is also in the other side. Our decisions shapes what we are and what we will be, and Ink is just a manifestation of what John would have been if he would have kept his guilt, shame and despair, putting a job contract prior to his daughter's life. She would have died and he would have comitted suicide, which is also told in the movie by Liev.
It wasn't a dream. Its a very complex plot. In the original timeline he makes his meeting, his daughter dies, he pours his life into his job to hide his regret and guilt. But then he kills himself because he cant bear it. In the second timeline his old soul is cursed because he killed himself and he forgets who he is till he can be a better person. The dark forces offer to make him one of their kind in exchange for 'A girls soul'. He does not remember who she is or that he is the reason she will die in the future, but They do as this was their plan all along. The forces of light want the girls soul back and just want to take it back. The oracle knows they can save both souls at the same time and knows that if he can stop him from the meeting that the dark forces are trying to make happen, AND get him back to the daughter it will save them both. At the hospital is when the souls are converging. Once the new him reaches his daughter his old soul remembers who he is after having remorse for his actions. And he finally recognizes HE is the entire reason for his daughters death AND his own later. So in one last moment he makes the self sacrifice to try and save her. Her soul is released and goes back to her body. He is also there when she gets it back, it changes the timeline and saves both of them.
This is one of the best films I have ever seen. The cast and crew did such an amazing job.
