- The Sonic cinematic universe, solidified my love for this franchise. Because of that I decided to take a deep dive into the novelizations of these movies. Only a few pages in it became very apparent to me that there is a lot different between the books and movies. Some of these changes will certainly surprise you!

Fun facts: Certain scenes like Tom talking to Sonic about his feelings or Robotnik firing a beacon after a mushroom trip were actually adapted from deleted scenes from the movies!
GREAT 👌 SONIC THEORY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SONIC MOVIES AND BOOKS.
I think that's because usually when movie novelisations are made, the final version of the screenplay isn't done yet.
Mobius wasn't actually retconed, in Japan Sonic always lived on Earth and had a far more in depth plot. However Sega of America and Europe instead of properly translating the manuals, changed everything and made the plot simpler as a result. This caused several things that was built up and forshadowed like Chaos, to feel like they came out of nowhere if you were not familiar with the true canon. Furthermore, Mobius in SatAM and Archie was just a future Earth anyway.
Well there was one Japanese Sonic cartoon where Sonic and his friends came to Earth from their own world, and that was Sonic X.
Mobius isnt a earth in SatAM.

1. According to Ben Hurst Mobius was going to be revealed to be a future version of Earth in Season 3
2.Ironically this did not inform Archie's decision to do the same at all.
@TheSwordsman100 if it never actually happened in the show it never happened in the show.

That argument only works for deleted scenes. There is nothing in the show as it stands to outright debunk Ben's word of god. (trope) Heck there is already hints of it in place. At this point you just have a problem with the writer.
This video is very underrated! I find it strange that the books took different approach than the movies.
In my own experience, novelizations are just as complex, odd and interesting as movie/show adaptations. Often I find novelizations are great places to expand on details that a movie had to skim for time as well as give insight on more characters, but in return, the pacing and some moments in the movie are usually changed or lost. Might be because novelizations are often written during the movie production/not 1 to 1 with the movie script, so things are cut or added in both. I think of them like alternate/enhanced tellings, where the main events of the movie is what happened for the most part, but the details from the novel are added on to tell the complete story.
I’m really happy that a lot of the characters get more moments, especially Longclaw and Tails, both of whom I really wanted more insight on. Also, this really makes me realize that movie!Sonic really is like the childhood we never had in the games. He’s so different from what Sonic is, but you can totally see him eventually grow into the hedgehog he is today :)
Right! Going in was looking forward to getting expanded detail on the lore, but I was honestly surprised at some of the changes in the book! The character moments did seem to be really fleshed out which was nice. Yeah tails really got some great moments in the book and its always wonderful to see more of Longclaw!
I wonder if the books were based on earlier ideas for the film scripts.
The part where Tom talks about emotion to Sonic was supposed to be in the movie as it was available as a viewable deleted scene on the Blu-ray(?) release.
Man it really sounds like the books took the "Chaos is power enriched by the heart" part of Tikal's prayer and went with it lmao
The way the Emeralds react to Sonic and Robotnik is pretty consistent with that concept, even if it's not stated though.
Nice video! I enjoyed learning about the differences. Knuckles mentioning mobius in the novelization was likely based off an earlier script for the film as seen on a storyboard, it got scrapped likely due to the unfortunate sega mandates. I was listening to the ghz podcast interview about the sequel, and pat casey claimed that they were planning to feature angel island were knuckles would bring robotnik with him there after encountering him on the mushroom planet, telling him that he needs the master emerald back to prevent its collapse. They were even going to feature the ice cap zone from Sonic 3&k until they replaced it with siberia. It would be cool if at least some of that made thier way into the final film
That would've been really cool to see in the film. Its crazy that they ended up changing so much but the movie still was a ton of fun! Thanks for all the extra info 😁
@@SonicTheory96 No problem! i also added all of the said info into the sonic fandom

EXCELLENT WORK. SONIC THEORY DIFFERENCE SONIC MOVIES AND BOOKS
I don’t see an issue using AI to visualize here tbh
21:24 I don't think Eggman mind is alright throughout the books. Dude wanted to destroy humanity
The AI is very distracting.. the video is otherwise interesting but the ai makes me kinda gag... pls commission artists, so many do great sonic art! or just use clips and screenshots from the movies or promotional material, even the comics. but AI is actively making me click off the video.
Fantastic video!! But one minor criticism i have is that the AI art is very distracting ^^;;...
I wouldn't mind you just using stills from the film.
THERE'S A BOOK??
The difference is that one is a book and one is a movie
25:15 DIFFERENCE FOR DARKNESS
BOOKS?
hUH?
WHAT?
the Sonic Movie(s) had BOOKS???
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING!!!
In Sonic 2 Sonic sends his emotions to the map a Sonic 1 he didn't even use his emotion
commander olive garden XD
Ah,yes,the best commander.
Great video, loved learning about these differences!
My only, yet major, criticism is the use of AI pictures throughout the video. It's production process and usage is extremely problematic for many reasons, so it would be better if you refrain from using it again.( Or at least research why AI is so bad)
i agree its not a great look
It's just a video. Enjoy it. It's not real,it's full of fictional characters.
@@juliemesser2053 You talk too much sense for the original commenter to comprehend
This comment is so lame, I don't even know where to begin
@@juliemesser2053"Don't criticize, just consume." basically.
Also, what does it being fictional have to do with anything?
You had me at "Mobius".
I did wish there wasn’t AI art used as theres many reasons why and could easily have been replaced with scenes in the movie or concept art like you did in this but honestly this is a pretty informative vid.
I hope the video wasn’t monetized since it has ai art. Maybe it was just for experimental stuff
Hey, just letting you know there is a Sonic 3 novelization, if you wanna cover that just like you did with these you could.
Go check out my community tab 😅
Did Ian Flynn write them?
Nope, it was written by Kiel Phegley
There are Sonic books ?
i just finished reading the sonic 2 novel and i cannot tell you how upset i am about how they scrapped shadows appearance. lucky for me i preordered the 3rd novelization😈
Cool vid
Hate the ai “art”
Books?
I still prefer the actual films over their novels overall.
Sonic had a book?
Ai isnt cute go off tho
No Rachel? No annoying character that didn't belong? I love this novel!
Rachel was likely put in the movies to be a loose reference to Ella from Sonic X.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww aI….
