I know I am starting to sound like a broken record (you remember records, right? - lol), but your videos are so clean. Your use of the red arrows and boxes are just brilliant. Why doesn't everybody do this? You never move too quickly, you ennunciate, there is no clutter or throbbing background music. Pro!

Thanks! I don't just remember broken records, I have a few still :-). Seriously, I appreciate that feedback.

Hello and thank you very much for making this video. I have two observations If you allow me .
1-Using the left-click you can make a time selection over an item if you position the mouse over the title-bar of the item.
2-By default you can make a time selection anywhere in the item if you "right-click drag" while holding the "Ctrl" key.
I'm new to reaper and as you mentioned, this got me really lost. I had to do some online research to find this info. Being that said, I just learned something new in your video by creating the shortcut on the "Mouse Modifier" setting. Thank you and keep up the good work and quality content. Best,
    Reaper v7.09_Windows 10 64Bits

You forgot to add one detail! The locking feature. I fought for days in different forums and videos and none mentioned it but then I finally saw in one forum someone was talking about a "lock" so I clicked that and was finally able to make a selection again

Thanks! Yes, there is a padlock icon in the toolbar. but the default is no help for making a time selection because it only locks time selections, which defeatx the point. HOWEVER, you can check the option instead for (Items (Full)). THEN you can make selections by dragging on the item. But then you can't move the item when you want to. So that method has drawbacks. What I have started doing is changing the mouse modifiers so that draggin gin the top half of the item will make a marquee selection. And then putting the cursor in the bottom half of the item will move the item. I should maybe make a nother video showing that.

This didn't work for me on a Mac.

It should work on both Mac and Windows. I Just tried it on my MacBook Air and it worked. So what was it that didn't happen when you tried?

@@HomebrewAudioRecording Doesnt work for me either...I´m using a trackpad, but that should work the same...i configured "left drag" --> "media item" --> CTRL for "marquee select items and time", but it doesn´t do anything on my mac mini...

@@sunhead-x Try this instead: The drop-down at the top of the Mouse Modifiers window say: "Context: Media Items" "Left Drag." And for the Default action in the display under that under Modifier I have "Default action" and under Behavior it says "* Marquee select Items and time." That changes the default from moving the item to being able to make a time selection. But doing just that takes away the move the item. So to add that back in, you go to the menus at the top of that screen where it says "Context" and change that to "Media item bottom half." Leave the "Left drag" is in that second drop-down. Change the Default action on that to "* Move item ignoring time selection." Now you can move it if you click and drag on the bottom half of the audio item, and you can select it with your mouse dragging on the top half of the item. This is how I have it set up on My MacBook Air.
