  • Dave Treganna speaks! The musician whose resume includes Sham 69, Cherry Bombz, Lords of the New Church, Johnny Thunders, Shooting Gallery and a plethora of other bands tells his story. He started out watching bands play on London's punk rock scene, eventually joining Sham 69 as a rhythm guitarist and switching to bass, becoming one of the most respected bassists of his time. Recently he reunited with the surviving members of Lords of the New Church, with Michael Monroe filling in for the late Stiv Bators. Our interview covers his career up until now, as he prepares to record his memories in an upcoming memoir! One of my favorit bass player. He is humble too. At the Lords he was the only one who played the melody. In a band with only one guitar the bass player needs to be very good. Brian was playing around Dave's leading melodys. Brian brang in the taste around it. But the melody the peoplexwhere dancing to comes from dave. Deep respect from Germany to Dave. I miss the Lords so badly. I had the same haircut and I played the bass in a trash rock band. I joyned the concert in Kempten when Brian was too high to play. That was a bad concert. No money back.

This is a brilliant interview. Dave is so interesting the way he tells his stories about his growing up. I have loads in common with him as regards family, school and music experiences etc. I've seen him live with Sham 69 and I've liked him since 1977. What a top guy!

Great interview with a guy who has played in all the best bands. Can’t wait to see him with Sham in 2024!

Don't Look Now is a brilliant horror film: it's like a film version of one of M. R. James's ghost stories, or perhaps Robert Aickman's "strange tales." All atmosphere, no gore!

I'd read in a book on Nick Drake that even Nick once had a friend who was somehow looking after John Lennon's estate (the same, with the white room etc. in the Imagine video), presumably when they were off planning to move to NYC, and Nick and his buddy got to tour that house with nobody in it, however! Crazy.

Always been a huge fan of Lords, and Johnny Thunders, and the Stiv Bators solo albums, etc. and Dead Boys. Also Tony James's various other projects, including
The Sisters 1990 and Sigue Sigue Sputnik. Love Tony James, and Brian James! LOL Anyway, I always enjoyed Dave's playing. I never got to see the Lords though, back in the day. A friend of mine did see them at the NYC Limelight at some point, and/or the Dead Boys reunion with Stiv, lucky bugger! I definitely dig Sham 69, too. (Scott B. LI NY)

I think Frank Secich of Stiv's first solo band (LA LA/Disconnected etc.) has put out an autobiography, but I haven't read it yet.

A friend and I met Sham 69 in the Isle of Man in 1978/ 79 , we hung out with them for a bit. I got terrible abuse from the staff at the hotel I worked at , making all sorts of untrue accusations about me , but I cant say the same for my friend , she got to know JP for a little while 😉
