I do just want to say though, in my area, due to patient confidentiality, some medi-clinics etc do not say the name of the clinic on the incoming number and many can't leave messages. We have had people missing very important appointments because all we can do when we call to confirm is ask for the patient, if they're not there, we try again. The ING banking app in the Netherlands shows (it appears, not a customer) if you are at that moment actually contacted by the bank. Should be a common feature
My uncle use to live in Charleston SC back in the 70s. The adult black population of the city has a thick (partly French?) southern accent which he learned to speak. When he received random wrong number calls, he’d talk to the black caller like he was a close friend, using slang/slurs and speaking almost unintelligibly. (You & I could barely understand the conversation) After a couple of minutes, once the black man started to doubt he was talking to a friend, my uncle started talking like normal. He’d then tell the guy, “you got the wrong number, sir.” My uncle was funny.
Beware that about a dozen states require both parties to consent to record a call. Unilaterally hitting the record button is breaking the law in those states, and the scammer can actually sue you for it.
@@solandri69 That's also a good tip. I need to check local laws. However, if I say to the scammer that I am about to record the call and that if they don't agree to it they should hang up, I think that might be enough deterrent whether or not I have an apple phone.
This is not exactly correct. In most states, the other party must be notified that the call is being recorded. If they so not consent, they can hang up. You dom't need their permission, only have to provide notice.
I found a way to deal with them one at the time and once for all. When they call, I answer that unfortunately, the person they are trying to reach passed away a few weeks ago. And voilà! They take you off their list and no more call from that scammer.
Wonderful idea! Frustrate the nuisances! I remember when I didn't check the caller ID screen and picked up the phone. Right away, I knew I was listening to a scam artist. So I said, "Hey, I'm 69 - That means I wasn't born yesterday. Goodbye." and promptly hung up. In the US, we have a National Do Not Call Registry online. Every time I get a scam or robo-call, I report the number.
I have been wasting spam callers for years now... Most times I just ask them to hold on for a bit, and put down my phone while I go do other things. I have stopped receiving calls after a while.
Family Password? Simply referring to facts known only to the family member works much better than remembering a key word: “Have you settled into your new house?” “What house?” “Sorry, just making sure you’re actually my son.” 🧐
Even if the institution calling checks out as the phone number listed, don’t be fooled as these numbers can be spoofed too. If it is your bank reporting that someone is using your credit card, hang up and drive down there to talk with a bank employee. Don’t believe anything alarming told to you over the phone. Go check things out in person.
The “don’t answer calls from unknown numbers” tip is kind of annoying: I found dogs on the street a couple of times. One dog in particular, I ended up keeping for half of the day because the owners wouldn’t answer their phone… so frustrating.
I am curious how the phone company knows about every call I make from my phone, to the point I could request a log of recent phone calls, yet it seems that they cannot detect where a scam call is coming from. I wish we could just block regions or have a white list of numbers allowed to go through to our phones by default. I have tried some apps that help do this but it seems that it would make a wonderful basic feature.
I do this with those spam calls. Then call them back & make em start over again. If you're fast enough you can het the exact same agent who called you. They get mad and blacklist your number. One group got mad and 'sold'my number overseas. Inwas getting calls from Japan, Peru & France. I'd answer the phone: "moshi moshi" or "Bon Jour" They've blacklisted me too. 😅
I think I have finally found a way to stop these annoying calls. Lately I’ve been screaming at my loudest voice into the phone, stop calling me, and hang up quickly. It seems to have reduced the calls. I’m very happy 😊
@ I don’t swear at them. I just tell them in a very loud voice that should shatter their ear drums, to stop calling me. So far the calls have diminished.

(You & I could barely understand the conversation)
After a couple of minutes, once the black man started to doubt he was talking to a friend, my uncle started talking like normal. He’d then tell the guy, “you got the wrong number, sir.”
My uncle was funny.
Did anyone spot Grandma's wedding ring over the TOP of her rubber gloves =)
Another AI flaw is too many fingers, or other anatomical error.
So on Apple you can hit record conversations. And it announces the call is being recorded they hang up like right away lmfao
That's a great tip
Beware that about a dozen states require both parties to consent to record a call. Unilaterally hitting the record button is breaking the law in those states, and the scammer can actually sue you for it.
@@solandri69 That's also a good tip. I need to check local laws. However, if I say to the scammer that I am about to record the call and that if they don't agree to it they should hang up, I think that might be enough deterrent whether or not I have an apple phone.
@@solandri69maybe they should change it to "by continuing to stay on this call, you consent to being recorded" just like all the companies do
This is not exactly correct.
I want to move to the uk and spam someone … just to talk all day about fluffy, daisy’s grandchildren and knitting.
Family Password? Simply referring to facts known only to the family member works much better than remembering a key word: “Have you settled into your new house?” “What house?” “Sorry, just making sure you’re actually my son.” 🧐
Implement call screening and call blocking on your phone. 99.9% of all spam calls are eliminated.
8 calls per month? I get like 3 per day!
wait until the scammers build their own AI and then we just set up AI scamming AI
Yep. My thoughts exactly
Then maybe this thing can finally come to an end when scammers realize how utterly pointless it is.
@@Gencoil scammers make too much money, so it will never be pointless to them. Scamming will continue until the earth stops spinning lol
😂😂
It probably keeps them on longer, because Grandma is usually a good target for them.
I can't wait until Trilogy Media hears about this!
It’s so common they have made landlines useless. Most people do not answer their phone when numbers are not recognized
Can’t wait for the recorded RUclips videos showing scammers talking to AI grandma 😂❤
“British Phone Company Virgin Media O2”
*British Pride and Patriotism Intensifies!!!*
Genius!
Is she also reporting the numbers to the police?
I'm sure they'll get right on that.
I just forward spam calls to my ex girlfriend. Works fine.
I get two calls a day at least. I need this!
The “don’t answer calls from unknown numbers” tip is kind of annoying: I found dogs on the street a couple of times. One dog in particular, I ended up keeping for half of the day because the owners wouldn’t answer their phone… so frustrating.
If I don’t know your number I won’t answer. If important they leave a message and I call back.
1:10 Did she say Chat GTP? Lol
?? is that....bad? or good? can't tell with this comment lol

Yes, she meant ChatGPT. She misspoke.
@@franciswyvern- bad as she said the wrong thing.
We’ve found it guys! A truly positive use of AI!!!
Yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous. I don’t give them a second, if I even answer at all.
2:12 LONGEST conversation was 40 minutes, not average. Graphic is misleading.
This will never stop there's a sucker born every minute
Lol I let EVERYONE go to voicemail.
I do this with those spam calls. Then call them back & make em start over again. If you're fast enough you can het the exact same agent who called you. They get mad and blacklist your number. One group got mad and 'sold'my number overseas. Inwas getting calls from Japan, Peru & France. I'd answer the phone:
"moshi moshi" or
"Bon Jour"
They've blacklisted me too. 😅
Eventually, AI scammers will call and connect to AI "Grandmas" - tie up the phone for hours - only to arrive at a stalemate.
Which wastes the scammer's time. THAT is the entire point! Wasting their time lessens how many calls a scammer can make in a day.
@@BlondieHappyGuy But ... neither entity will be "real," so the scam have no effect in time or space - just two computers trading zeros and ones ...
my 82 yo mother gets at least 12 calls a week, and they ramp up the calls close to Christmas, makes me murderously angry.
I think I have finally found a way to stop these annoying calls. Lately I’ve been screaming at my loudest voice into the phone, stop calling me, and hang up quickly. It seems to have reduced the calls. I’m very happy 😊
I used to keep a *loud* whistle next to my phone. saved my voice for more important things.😏
They call more when you scream and swear at them.
@ I don’t swear at them. I just tell them in a very loud voice that should shatter their ear drums, to stop calling me. So far the calls have diminished.
I'd like to see her in action not just small clips
Awesome! AI Grandma talks to scammers all day
