There were never any plays ran for hers, barely any PNR’s even. She’ll bounce back this year, I don’t believe she’ll ever get the hype she had back at Louisville but she can get some of it back.

I live in Louisville. My wife is a diehard fan of UofL. I'm a Kentucky fan. We both love women's basketball. HVL was an absolute hero here to the fans. When she entered the portal, it was such a shock. I followed her closely at LSU and was shocked at the change for the worse. It was obviously a terrible decision, but I still have high hopes for her. One bad decision in her 20's should not destroy her career. She wanted to play the One position so bad. Which I think was a driving factor. She needs to allow herself to be that scoring guard before we try finding a team that fits her. I wish her well at TCU and in next year's WNBA draft.

I think a few of the commenters have the reason for her leaving Louisville arse-about-face. I actually get this. Van Lith is like Kelsey Mitchell, who is an impressive ball handler, driver, and scorer. That fast twitch muscle drive is marvelous. You watch highlights of driving to the basket for the Fever, Kelsey Mitchell will take on four defenders and somehow score; whereas, CC looks slow and methodical in comparison (yet still can score, which is impressive in it own way since she rarely fails to score when she does decide to drive). Still, between them, Kelsey is a sight to see when it comes to driving between defenders to score.
So, the eye test is immediately in favor of Kelsey (and by extension, Van Lith). She fits into a common slot for a team, the Scorer. Yet, as you watch, you realize that playing guard requires more than an ability to drive into the paint and get a layup at will, that passing and outside shooting are just as important, though less glamorous than driving past your defender and, so, out-pacing the competition. This is where CC tends to shine.
So, I can see Van Lith being overestimated because she can take an opponent one on one and generally score. It is a fact that CC is anomalous, she appears slower, less athletic (just watch Kelsey's dribble versus CC's, the former seems to bounce the ball twice for each time CC bounces it), yet she can generally do it all. Despite appearing slower, the ball is rarely stolen from CC and she can wrong foot a defender and blow past her to the basket.
If I were a coach, I would be impressed by CC's skills but I might not know how to incorporate her into a team. Luckily, the Iowa coach realized making CC the foundation of the team and building around her skills was best and, so, CC became a star.
She wanted to go to Connecticut, where she would be forced to be a system player rather than the focus of the team. She was turned down and went to Iowa instead, where, as the focus of the team, she broke several NCAA records. Such is fate.

Tell me which players belongs to which Freshman stats. Now tell me which player SHOWED more promise. So what went wrong? Maybe it was a lower starting skill level. At no time was it expected van Lith might become the All Time Leading D1 Scorer or that van Lith might become third All Time D1 in Assists or that van Lith would be on the leader board for Triple Doubles. Every player is better than Caitlin Clark -- according to you.
Nylassa Boston is the GOAT anyway, so who cares about the rest.
HVL was too short and not good enough to be better than her. She literally was just starting over her because her FATHER was involved in the coaching process and put her over Clark.
HVL was unfortunately a SG that never developed PG tendencies and that hurt her greatly when she failed to get the SG build and frame of current players/ peers.
Secondly, ACC wasn't as strong of a conference as Caitlin's conference.
Paige and HVL both played in weaker conferences, and therefore never had to overcome adversity. That's why they aren't "Caitlin Clark" and will hardly have the same impact. Clark was a PG from her career, and remained being a dominant player throughout her career.
Paige has to prove she's going to be a good PG in the WNBA level to really have success since she's a smaller sized SG at this point. Paige won't even get minutes at PG this year, so she'll play the 2/3 some more and then in the WNBA will be overpowered by bigger players in the league. HVL will be fine as a backup PG--given that she at least can do professional aspects: 3 vs 3 level. Like a Sims type player.
Paige isn't going to be that and you gotta stop hyping her up since she's only gotten 14 assists 1 time in her career--and that was her freshman year. She's literally failed to get more than 10 assists for the last 3 years, basically. She's just not that player. Too injured, too weak for the pro levels.
