EPA and WLTP range are not important numbers. What you really need is range at highway speeds -- 55mph, 65 mph, 75 mph. Range is only important when driving on the highway. Several Independent tests has shown that Teslas consistently get low 70s% of EPA rated range at highway speeds, which is really bad, IMO. The KIA Niro and Audis get about 90%, and the Porsche Taycan gets even better. The Polestar 2 has gotten about 81% of it's EPA range at highway speeds. The rating agencies should give us range at highway speeds.
I'm a die hard American Tesla fan. I love my Model Y and I typically hang out on the Tesla videos. But, I like your honest commentary and non-confrontational style. Keep up the good work. I can't disagree with anything you said. If anyone gives your video a thumbs down, they're just being a dick.
Model 3 is a nice car but felt too Spartan inside for us. We currently have a model X but looking to downsize and save some money. Also the saloon body style doesn't suit us. Polestar 2 much more practical with the hatchback body.
After the 2nd recall then my P2 has not had any of the previous issues. It charges to the limit set; no more SOS Alarm or other things coming up on the display; 4G connectivity hasn't dropped etc. Service was also very good here in Sweden- got an appointment the next day, XC60 loan car for the day. Safety system also saved someone when reversing in dark and rain when they decided to walk behind the car and it emercency stopped.
A very informative video - thanks 👍🏼 As for improvements, I’ve got two after a few days of ownership. - A rear wiper - A remote button to open the front boot (Frunck)
well still looking forward to getting mine around December 22nd! Your reviews have been awesome and in depth with real life usage. I hope the issues are dealt with before i will get mine but Polestar assures met they are ;-) You are right all car manufactures deal with recalls on their cars its how you tackle them with your customers that counts. Seems to me Polestar is on the right path there and tackles the issues head on with considerations to its current and future customers.
Thank you for sharing your extensive experience with the Polestar 2! I hope to have the P2 delivered in early December and look forward to driving it, partly because of your enthusiasm.
Great follow-up review. Loved the two videos. I believe. I read somewhere, the indicator sound was modelled on twigs snapping. Furthermore, I just love the whole Polestar dynamic/ethos and was gutted to miss out on my chance to order one. Bring on the 3 (SUV)
Very good, fair, honest and professional reviews. Thank you. I have had the mg zs ev for the last 7 months and has been very satisfactory. So I am pausing and watching the new crops of cars if I want to change to. The polestar is among the cars I am watching. 200 mile range is a bit on the low side, as only 50 miles more than the mg. I am a ware the polestar is in a different league. Guaranteed 250 mile would be good. I am waiting for Mustang Mach e to be tested in normal conditions ... Like you said the promised range can be an optimistic and difficult to achieve target.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to post it. If you're thinking of another feature, could you do one showing the operation of the ACC and Pilot assist features?
Excellent series on the Polestar! I’m curious, when you use one-pedal driving, do the brake lights come on as you slow down? After all, you aren’t using the brake pedal!
Great videos. Could you go over adding favorites to radio and changing from AM/FM Satilite radio. Just a overall walk through in the radio area would be nice. Thanks
Very useful thank you very much. Any thoughts on buy vs lease with battery and charging technology moving so fast I’m worried if I buy it may not be worth much in 3 years!
A great video and very helpful. Making me even more impatient to get mine which is currently on order. I have a couple of questions and if you are able to answer that would be great: 1. I will order a pod-point home charger once Polestar confirm my delivery date. If you order the one with the build in cable does this save you having to buy a 32amp cable? Also do you still have the ability to use a different cable from the built in one if you change your car to a different make at a future date? 2. Do public charging stations all come with their own built in cables? 3. With the one peddle driving does it also illuminate the brake lights when you lift off the accelerator? Thanks for the excellent information and I look forward to the replies to the questions
Hi, no problem! So, the tethered Podpoint will likely mean you are stuck with that cable type so that could be an issue if you get a car with a different plug type. It is very convenient though. Rapid public chargers do have their own tethered cables but the AC public chargers don't. You can use the Polestar supplied cable but it won't give you the full 7kw charge rate as it's a 16amp cable and can only manage 3kw. Personally I'd suggest a non tethered pod point or similar and then buying a seperate 32 amp 3 phase cable. That will work at home but also on any AC public charger and will give the full 7kw (or 11kw on 3 phase) charging speed. With one pedal driving it does illuminate the brake pedals so it's a nice safe way to drive. Hope this helps.
An excellent and honest review of the car. Does the sat-nav tell you of any "out of order" chargers? Does it suggest charge points for a long journey or do you have to pick from whatever list it shows? No one as far as I'm aware has filmed the headlight washers, might be worth a look at?
Thanks, I don't think it does know out of order chargers sadly. It does suggest charge points on route which is good but it's not as well implemented as zapmap or a better route planner.
Excellent. Thanks very much for that informative video. Teetering on my next car being electric but range/charging a slight anxiety so your comments have assisted greatly. Tesla seems to have the network and range sorted so what drove you to P2? Was it build quality. And is leasing preferable do you think? Sorry for the raft of questions.
I'm leasing through business but yes I think it's the best way to go especially with unknow battery degradation. I went for the PS2 as I liked the hatchback and boot space. My previous car was a 330e and the boot opening was a bit small for my liking. Also the PS2 is a bit more traditional with both a display in front of the driver and in the center of the dashboard which i much prefer.
Hi, I recently had a testdrive in the polestar 2 with the performance pack and I found the ride way to firm, especially over b roads and speed bumps. Do you experience the same with your (non performance pack specced) car?
No I'd say it is fine, still a bit firm but more like a 3 series m sport so still sporty but not uncomfortable. Personally I think the performance pack looks nice but isn't really worth it and could be uncomfortable for general driving
Can you set your ACC accordingly to a latest recognised speed limit? (from road sign of satnav system?). Can you use Waze as your main nav (on the driver screen)?
Extending the warranty by a year is a very nice gesture. On the other hand, I love my BMW i3, but those cars still have some design flaws to this day and BMW is refusing to even acknowledge them...
great observations on your vehicle. Can the cameras work as a recordable dashcam/sentry mode similar to Tesla's? I am in the process of finalizing my decision on my EV purchase. Thanks
19Ronin50 I asked this of Volvo for my XC60, which has the same 4 360° cameras option, they agreed it was a good idea but not available. It is a shame since it would be available with the existing hardware and additions such as cabling to the inbuilt hard drive, so potentially available in emergency scenarios such as a crash, hard braking, etc. This P2 (?) and Volvos have their emergency contact enabled so almost but not quite...
Please dont laugh at this...."how" do you drive it? There is no key-start or a start-stop button. So, when you sit in the car, is it simply push selector back for D, then accelerate away? And when you finish your journey how do you "turn off"? Presumably you put selector into N then press P. And once you lock the car, everything electronic turns off so no more power is wasted? And finally, if you are driving and want to lock the doors from the inside for security e.g. at pulling up at traffic lights in a rough area, does the "lock" then turn everything off? Really enjoy your reports
Another fine review. I do believe your discussion about charging and what cable is needed for what is simply a turn off for many prospective buyers. That should all be hidden, as in information not needed, from buyers. It just demonstrates how early it is in the EV era. Companies must work harder on this aspect of EV ownership. Plug it in and It's charging, anything other than that is poor design. When the EV market matures and 400 or more miles per charge is the norm, that will be the time to buy. Early adopters to this tech will just have to live through the growing pains. It won't be me! As for myself, Tesla is now off the table permanently. Too many issues! One reviewer had two S models and his list of things that went wrong was, for me, the final kicker. No thanks, I'm not buying a 70k headache. I'll go ICE again, this time with probably a Mercedes C Class.
Agreed, when explaining it it made me realise how confusing this all is! Fine for people who enjoy this kind of thing but potentially annoying for those who want an easy life
@@ShortCircuitPS2 I also think depending on public charging is a no win situation as in xtra money and time. Waking up in the morning to fully charged vehicle is #1 reason to have an EV. I'm an apartment dweller and home charging is presently off the table and that kills an EV for me no matter how much I might want one.
Hi Rick, Its just really a shame that people focus so much on range. The deal breaker here is If you can charge at home or not. Bought a small battery EV 2 months ago. Intended to use our plug in hybrid for longer trips. To date that has happened zero times. But If you do long trips all the time range is an issue for sure. If you want bang for your buck small batteries are just better. Diminished returns problem with increased weight, bigger battery. Greener. Nippier to drive. Cheaper to insure. As producers make more money from BIG batteries they want you to want 400 miles per charge. Less than 5% of drivers need it would be my guesstimate. Why not lease an EV for a year and see what you think? Good luck!
@@anderspersson6134Reasons for not buying an EV keep popping up. Despite my thoughts on what a desirable range should be, vehicles keep popping up that interest me. Tesla can't build a quality vehicle - out. Volvo will be close to the Polestar in specs - out. So I'm running out of contenders here and just suspect I'll be going ICE again. I certainly won't buy an EV and see it's gas savings go to others.
@@Rick9482 Many times a family has more than one car. If you buy a car for a fortune you rightly expect a lot in return. So why not go for a less expensive EV w shorter range as a daily runabout? In America there are I think both state and federal incentives so its possible to get a new one for 20 kUSD. We use ours all the time and the experience has been a pleasant surprise. In Sweden Tesla owners sometimes drive around long distances almost obsessively from supercharger to supercharger. Or is that just prejudiced? Where do they find the time for all these road trips? The average driver never has and never will use their car like that. EVs to the people😃
That's what I thought when watching the video. The space is one of my concerns. Unfortunately the nearest retailer near me is 12 hours away, so it will be awhile before I can test for myself. It will be this or an XC60 for me. The XC60 has plenty of space for me.
