Your portfolio is an experience. It feels like I didn't just watch, but I also go through someone's story. The last piece made the most huge impact, in my opinion. Your works are pretty conceptual and allegorical---totally different from most of the portfolio videos I've seen. You inspired me even more. You're awesome.
This actually made me want to do pieces that really reflect my feelings and emotions. And i kinda dont like it when artist say that, it's "cheesy". Because i know, you like it, YOU PUT YOUR HEART AND TIME INTO it. And its just sad that we have to says such things towards the things that we love just for the people. I don't know, my chain of thoughts dissappear 😅. But, i know you enjoy the theme and its okay if we put our personal emotions in an artwork. I love it. 💖
Your work is all astounding. The stories behind each are so well thought. I’m not even an American student but I just love watching these videos. This was one of the best I’ve seen. Congratulations ❤️
STOP your portfolio really inspired me and just looks so beautiful and emotional 😭 I can tell I really need to improve but in a good way. This moved me too much lmaoo
@@junyilin6766 I use decently thick watercolour paper for my watercolour pieces. I did a little research and it seems to me that bristol paper doesn't have the same level of water absorption that could mess with the watercolours, but I've never used it before so I won't be able to say much more than that sorry :')) i suggest you do a little more research! there's a lot of info online available :))
there’s just something different that sets your portfolio apart from others. like others feel technically skilled, of course, but flat in a way and yours is technically skilled AND has a lot of life. not to talk bad about others, because you have to really put in the work to get into RISD in the first place. But you’re going places!
the how to turn back the clock one, made me very emotional. I recently lost my favorite chicken because my neighbor accidentally let their dog out... I've been wanting to turn back time, and i keep reliving seeing my chickens life be shaken out of itself.
YOOOOO first of all I love how you did the little doodles for your video as well as made each description short and sweet. Also loved the pieces themselves! When I saw that SAT score though I was like HUHHHHHHHH
I’ve seen other portfolio videos and you have the most authentic reasoning and analysis of your own work! Other people were just talking up their pieces and less authentic and you could tell. Well done!
hi! i want to apply to an art school too and I'm watching so many videos like this to prepare myself. it really sucks when all the good art schools are out of Canada for an art kid like me too ;-; risd should seriously consider international scholarships
riiight it do b like that ;(( there are a few schools that give merit scholarships for internationals (like saic) but yeah,, good luck with your applications !!
m a L hey dude ! I’m living in Canada too, it kinda sucks how the states have more art schools but there are still a fair amount in bigger cities like Vancouver and Toronto !
alexgraff_art yeah!! there’s ocad in toronto but i don’t know much about. vancouver since i don’t live there. (i’d LOVE to it’s such a beautiful place, best vibes)
When u talked about being accepted to both schools my brain imagined: *a movie plot of somone doing that and a friend of theirs uses your identity to attend the school you didn’t choose cuz their grades wouldn’t have gotten them in and they didn’t care that your name would be on the diploma cuz they wanted to go for the art learning experiences and social scene of making new artsy friends more than a piece of paper. And the while movie would be based on making sure neither of the schools got notified that you were technically enrolled in the other at the same time.* Edit: that would be very illegal irl tho
Hi I love how you explain your pieces and meanings and I was just wondering if you could show or explain your sustained investigation? I would be so interested to see how you approached it!!
absolutely love your art! i've just recently gotten into art a year ago and i only got two years until college applications but i'm giving my all so i can improve as much as possible and make it in, thanks for inspiring me so much!!
Wow! I absolutely love it. It’s amazing how all your works have a meaning and it’s wonderful to see such a young artist with so much to say! You’re such an inspiration girl, wish you all the best
all of your drawings are incredible and also have such deep messages to them as well! >< I'll be a junior next year and I'm really inspired to start pursuing my own portfolio ideas after the portfolio school I went to last year only made me do technical pieces -- do you have any advice to what I should look for in a new portfolio teacher or class? (should they be helping me with whatever idea or piece I have in mind, or are they supposed to offer advice of what to draw and I follow it strictly? Sorry this is such a weird question, I just don't know what these places are supposed to offer and I know you only mentioned teachers and such briefly in the video! It's just that I wanted to start focusing on my own ideas and creative pieces 😅) but thank you for the video, it's my favorite portfolio vid so far :D
thank you so much!! honestly, i wasn't sure if the way my teacher taught was very common, which is why I didn't mention it much since it might not be too applicable to people. But basically my teacher would help me with developing ideas and making sure they were communicated effectively in the piece, and also pushed my technical abilities as well. I think ultimately just try to find a teacher that is familiar with what universities want to see in a portfolio and know how to guide you to achieve that, if that makes sense? Good luck with your application!!!
hi! i was wondering whether every piece made has to have some kind of meaning/story behind it? i wanted to create these graphic design movie posters cuz i thought that would be a cool idea but also to demonstrate my knowledge in adobe illustrator/photoshop and that i can redesign things, but now im not so sure.
oh wow, your pieces are all so amazing! I’m currently a junior and I really want to go into an art school or something in art for higher education but I have no idea where to start 😭 did you learn art from high school classes or through an art academy?
i'm sorry if this sounds creepy but,,, is that richmond? the scene at 7:54 looks awfully familiar... then again, it's not a particularly distinctive landscape, so i could be wrong
I'm really inspired by all of your art pieces! Honestly, I'm kind of anxious about applying to an art school and seeing all of these amazing artists show their art portfolios (like yours) makes me want to expand! Did you take any art classes during highschool or outside courses? I'm in my junior year and I haven't taken art classes in or out of highschool which is a part of the reason why I'm anxious about it all. Overall, thank you so much for showing us your artwork!
Can somebody help me. I'm currently preparing for 11nth grade and I will pursue arts. I wanted to become an illustrator someday and assembling a portfolio is taking to much of my time🥲 I wanted to ask a few things I hope u answer it cuz I'm desperate 1. Does assembling a portfolio requires in making art YOU'RE GOOD AT?or it needs to have a variety of arts(painting, sketching etc.) No matter what you're mastering in. 2. If it needs to be a full colored one 3. How many examples should you put in your portfolio?
It depends, you First have to apply to an artschool that suits you and that is available in your country. If you'll be able to pay for the school years there so you also have to look financially. Then you'll see what is required for your portfolio, if it needs to be sent digital or personally. I recommend putting your best artworks and also a variety of different mediums (sculpture, drawings...) bug don't overdo it...
Wow, your works have so much depth and emotions in them. As someone currently considering to apply SAIC, may I ask which department where you applied and accepted to with this portfolio? I'm considering the Film, Video, New Media, and Animation department so just wondered.
@ definite infinite: I recommend reading Worlds in Collision. We live in an active universe, and the Earth will long be destroyed by cosmic forces before reaching those billions of years.
So, did you have to do pieces like you did? Or are you able to make more animation related pieces? Or is it just genuinely just what you think is good?
If you mean what type of pieces you should submit, I think you should just submit what you think is best representative of your own skill level and what type of art you enjoy creating! If that's animation related then yeah, go for it! They also love to see experimentation and risk taking, so don't worry too much about your work fitting a certain mold. Hope that helps! :)
art schools def care more about portfolio than any grades. risd's a bit more selective but even then they don't look for like a crazy good gpa or anything, so i wouldn't worry too much about those kinds of stats uvub
hello! i am a freshman in graphic designing in india.. risd is my dream college.. is it possible for international students to get accepted for graduate courses and if yes what is the minimum gpa required? plss reply i really wanna know cause i really wanna work hard to get into my dream college. have a nice day
The drawing im actually proud of is a semi-realistic purple balloon dog that’s meaningless. 😀👍 btw is it important to date and sign your art bc i never do those stuff 🤨🤨🥲
i do use references! i'm actually not very good at visualizing things either so I'll find a lot of references for either poses or lighting etc. don't be afraid of using references! references =/= tracing
I'm from Vancouver area! I'm not too sure how good Emily Carr's animation program is, but I heard OCAD has a good animation program you can consider as well !
i would really advise against tracing anything you submit in your portfolio! using references is okay as long as you use them properly, as in try to combine many in one piece so your not just drawing from one reference, and change the reference up a little in your drawing so it's actually your own work. yeah in general i would not recommend tracing :")
Omg I absolutely love ur work, ur portfolio is so inspiring 🥺❤️ I’m a grade 9 student and RISD is my dream school as well😆 I wonder if I can pay u to be my teacher and u can give me some advices about my portfolio🎨

I love the theme of Going back to the past or time in general and the way you portray it differently each time.
