    Hey, I'm happy to hear that you like Ryan's Shed Plans. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBE-xSmFU7PIaMFUmmhnFxE035s5svtxeIt's a cool guide that shows you how to build any kind of shed you want. It has all the stuff you need to know, like what materials and tools to use, how to plan and design your shed, and how to put it all together. It also has tons of pictures and diagrams of different shed types and styles, so you can see what they look like and how to make them. Ryan's Shed Plans is awesome, because it makes shed building fun and easy. You can have your own shed in no time. cool

    Beautiful work! Future generations will see the high quality of your work and marvel at your attention to detail, the precision of your cuts, the quality of the material, the reuse of roofing tiles, and the integration of the roof to the existing roof. All of these are a credit to you and your team! Again, well done!!

    This was nothing short of an absolute work of art in so many ways. From the time-lapse photography
    to the mindful inclusion of capturing the building inspector,(house cat) on the job. A genuine lesson in planning and execution. A lot of blood sweat and tears no doubt. We all saw the "wasted" fingernail....
    those are THE most insane/stupidly painful injuries.....EVER!!! Very impressive use of everyday hand tools. The best tool used here had to be located above the shoulders. Great Job!

    Maintaining the character of historic construction in this day and age is truly a lost art. Nice job of blending modern materials and techniques with seemingly ancient hand carved construction. Your ancestors would be amazed that such a small crew could build so much so quick.

    Absolutely fantastic job. I particularly enjoyed the roof woodwork, ie, replacement of original beams with the mortice joints and pinning. I own an old farmhouse in West Wales that I have renovated to what I believe is a high standard and have to replace roof on cow sheds to make the building watertight and useable for a business so I was particularly impressed with this video. Excellent, thank you.

    One trick I was taught by old timers was to use beeswax on the screws in timber. It lubricates and protects the metal, and prevents overheating.

    • @GoCoyote
      @GoCoyote 2 года назад +6

      @@mikebravo3527
      The advantage of wax over soap is that the heat melts the wax and bonds it to the metal, forming a very long lasting protective coating on the fastener, while soap can contribute to fastener degradation in the long run. You can buy tubes of cutting wax used in machine shops if you want a convenient way to carry and dispense the wax, just a spiral wound cardboard cylinder that can be peeled away as needed. I just prefer beeswax because it smells good.

    We are 7 years into a 3 year project and enjoying every minute of it !!
    We have put some big oak beams like yours inside the building and like you used the original structure to raise some fairly meaty beams. with a 2 tonne chain block, sometimes single handed. Where there's a will there's a way !! Green oak is great to work with and I used manly hand tools like you.
    We have tried wherever possible to use lime mortar/concrete as these old buildings like to breath.
    I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to having a look at your other videos.

    @44:35 you know he's a British in France because we don't make roofs with batten horizontally. building regulations are a vertical batten on top of rafters, then a horizontal batten for tiles/roofing. Doing like such lets air going inside between the membrane and the tiles reducing moisture so the carpentry lasts for years...
    And we let the tip of the membrane 3/4 centimetres laying down in the gutter so even with a broken tile, rain water would drain off the roof.
    I hope this does make sens
    Otherwise, thanks for sharing Good Job!

      yeah it does, it's wierd how in some parts of the world people do no understand how to use membranes properly

    Suggestion for you. When you drive in big lag screws, coat them with hand bar soap. They will spin easily right into the wood.

    When I saw that roof OMG.
    If it was in Aust there would be many people in PPE and a tent over the hole house till the roof was off and clean to nothing.
    For the ones wondering, the roof looked like corrugated asbestos sheeting, its a big no to even touch it without so much protective gear.
    But otherwise, Dam you work quick, if a job was done that quickly would be great.
    The job looks great, well done.

      Very low risk from aspestos sheeting especially if it taken off in whole sheets, it may not have even been aspestos, it would depend on the age of the sheets.

    • @Torinchapman
      @Torinchapman 5 лет назад +1

      Asbestos is perfectly safe to work with providing the sheets aren’t broken or scraped, also the reason for no ppe is because they are doing it themselves and not a company. Same for everywhere, you do it yourself your risk

    Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE if you liked the video! ------ And for those wondering:
    - The walls will be lime rendered eventually, and so the concrete ring beam and block work will be covered.
    - The roof was asbestos, I should’ve taken more precaution.
    - The old beams were rotten and needed replacing, they were then used in making units for the kitchen so didn't go to waste!

      Asbestos sheets are really dangerous and they should be treated accordingly! In Greece (for example) it is illegal to remove them without having a specialized team of workers and without having ensured where they are going to end up (these panels have to be handled/processed with extra protective measures)... It should be noted though that it is not that harmful if you simply remove them as it is when breaking them into smaller pieces! Last but not least... Very nice video!!! :-)

      I took some chestnut beams out that had rot where they were in the barn walls and after cleaning with an axe and a belt sander look great and I will re use for a veranda to the front.
