    I know I know, before you DESTROY me in the comments for taking too long to post this video. I'm really sorry for taking too long to edit and upload the video.
    YES I did RECORD the practice videos during the same week. I'll be honest, I've been doubting my abilities to create good content that you all want to watch and learn from. Plus, honestly I have been struggling to get my ... together.
    I LOVE YOU ALL supporters and haters alike.
    P.S. "Nah, I'm gonna do this my own way"

      Not sure if you're kidding or not....? lol... if so, why would they? Just ask permission and any friendly staff should allow that so long you don't harm the lanes. (Which a tape will never do)

    I find this interesting. I have always tried to end on the same board that I began (ie: no drift). I have been watching a lot of PBA tour players this past year or so, I don't recall them having such a path during their approach as you demonstrate here. I have noticed that EJ Tackett seems to have this approach, but most others appear to me to end on the same board they started. I will have to go back and pay closer attention and assess.

    • @AthleticBowling
      @AthleticBowling  8 месяцев назад +1

      Most pros actually drift A LOT nowadays... And, I am not saying you have to finish the same board you start at. In fact, I would advice against it because you have to clear the way for your swing and release. Re watch the video and look at my tapes.

      I was always taught and have confirmed in my experience that it doesn’t matter if you drift or not. What matters is that your approach is consistent and the same every time, whether you drift or do not drift. It sounds cliche, but once you find what works for you, you just need to consistently repeat it. Very nice video, though.

    • @squidly2112
      @squidly2112 8 месяцев назад

      @@bryanlewis7255 - I would agree with you. It does seem to me that it would be easier to consistently repeat your approach if you didn't drift at all, that way you are starting at the same board you are finishing on. But I'm pretty much a hack bowler anyway, I think I have a lot of other issues to worry about first 🙂

    I'm a 3 step bowler. So are you even when you take 5 steps. The ball does NOTHING until the start of your 3rd step. That's why I switched to 3 step from 5 over 20 years ago.

    • @AthleticBowling
      @AthleticBowling  8 месяцев назад +6

      The first 2 steps give you momentum and speed, which in turns adds more speed and ease of movement to your body. It doesn't "do nothing" like you say, but it make sense if you are happy with your speed.

    • @squidly2112
      @squidly2112 8 месяцев назад +3

      @@AthleticBowling - I have played between 4 and 5 steps and for me I have found that 5 step allows me to better set my "tempo" and keep my tempo consistent.

    • @pudgeballroundpants1941
      @pudgeballroundpants1941 8 месяцев назад +1

      The first 2 steps in most 5 step are very slow. "Attacking the line" is rushing forward on those first 2 steps but it makes it hard to keep your timing. I still say your first 2 steps are too slow, and the ball is not making a significant move until the very end of step 2. To me, that extra motion is just something else to go wrong. My brother does it too (5 step) and he "stalks the line" more than he rushes the line. He rushes when it's hooking too much.
      You have a great swing and delivery. You made an excellent multi-step drill that people will find useful. Good luck!

    • @squidly2112
      @squidly2112 8 месяцев назад +3

      @@pudgeballroundpants1941 - I guess I use the extra steps in 5 step to get my clock running. I have played competitive golf for over 30 years, and one thing in the golf swing that you don't have is something to set your timing clock. In most ball sports there is something to set your timing clock, like in baseball you have the moving ball coming at you that sets your clock. Humans are absolutely terrible timing instruments and rely on external mechanisms to get their clock started consistently and accurately. To me the extra steps do this for me, something I don't have in a golf swing. In golf I have to try to manufacture that clock in my head first and then use my backswing and back rotation to set the temp timing. In bowling I instead use the first 2 steps. It works for me that way anyway.

    • @scopedin2990
      @scopedin2990 8 месяцев назад

      wym bruh most people get the ball down at the 2nd step of the 5 step. and at the beginning of the 4 step.
      people who use these aproaches have to drop the ball early and then start moving to do three step drill. because every step is important.

  • @SSA-de4py

    nice video !
    I use 3, 4, 5, & 6 steps . I use 5 steps more than the others but go to 3 or 4 if I feel 'off' on the 5-step or want to slow down or speed up.
    I just choose the one that feels the best timing-wise, so, this drill will especially help me.

      I also did the 4 step approach years ago and it helped at times. The only difference is that you just don't use your first step to create momentum or open the hips. Adjust the starting position a little and go from there following the same formula I gave you in this videl

  • @nordattack

    First, E. J., who you showed, does not have a crossover step, he walks straight, drifts left then "jumps" left. That is unique to him.
    Second, you assumed that people have a 5 step approach, most bowlers I know have 4 step and even some 3 step.
    Third, you assumed that people are throwing inside out. Most bowlers in league throw down and in, so drifting left is not ideal for playing straight from the outside.
    But thank you for this tutorial for inside out high rev players.
    Perhaps you can follow up with approach teaching for normal strokers playing straight.

    • @scopedin2990
      @scopedin2990 8 месяцев назад +1

  • @scopedin2990

    to everyone in the comments saying that they use several different aproaches in their game.
    literally stop. The only time you should ever use a different aproach is when you are forced to play in front of the ball return and loterally cannot use your main aproach.
    This is a game about consistency and swapping aproaches constantly to what will "feel right" will not improve your game.
    Oh and sorry to tell you but fixing aproach drills arent what will improve you from 180s to 220s.
    Spares are.
