I really like how you guys referred the balls as "the strong ball", "the purple ball", etc. As a youth coach, a lot of kids have equipment that they don't know the name of, but they know what it does. Just telling them to garb your "purple ball" helps them out a lot. I know a lot of my kids watch your videos. Thanks guys.
It's good you were having problems dialing in the path, especially with the Hustle. This is what we run up against. Thanks for explaining all the options to overcome dry lanes.
Guys love your explanations for dry yet Kyle is a high rev playing left I would like to see how a lower rev lower speed how you would play the lanes with ball adjustments as more down and in players
Storm needs to hurry up and make that B&K ball! The content y'all produce is... chef's kiss. Extremely helpful and y'all break it down so well. Thank you gents!
Thanks for sharing these helpful tips. For me, I struggle to hit my mark consistently, especially when my ball is coming up high and I have to move left. I've been working on targeting and getting the ball out on the lane a little bit more (although I'm not very good at lofting). I have also found that when I get more knee bend and my trail leg is on the ground at the right angle, it makes all the difference. Looking forward to seeing you guys back on the tour. Hope to see you guys at the PBA Delaware Classic. Brad, I believe next year will be a better year of bowling for you. Don't ever give up.
2:43 Soooo many people tell me to move left when missing left, and I could never fully understand why. THIS explanation just made the lightbulb go off for me! You guys are my source of knowledge! Thank God for your RUclips channel!
Can you guys pls make a video explaining how to decide, according to pattern length and oil volume, not just at what arrow to point but at what break point/pin to aim to? (basically deciding the launching angle all things considered)
You should do an equivalent video for oily lanes or maybe lanes with carry down from a party before. I've had games where my Proton Phyxix misses right while playing as right as I could. Would love to know what else to do.
my exact thoughts, how to overcome the puddle from urethane or plastic balls... this is tougher than just moving left when they dry up a few boards at a time, IMHO.
GREAT video !! I’ve been bowling for a year, in leagues - I just recently switched from throwing straight to hooking and using higher end balls. I saw may average jump up 20 pins or so initially … but have had inconsistent games a lot last couple weeks and I think it has a lot to do with when the lane is burnt up. This video really helps me know how and why to adjust rather than just “trying stuff” and getting frustrated so THANK YOU !!! 🙌🏼🎳
You 2 are the best, this is the exact video we need. I have a Hustle RIP (purple one, not the M&M one pictured between shots,) also drilled the same way and I could not defeat dry lanes even after polishing it with CTD. After this video dropped, bowled great games.
I mastered the technique of bowling on dry lanes already. I pack my shit up, walk up to the front desk and tell them if they want my money to oil their fucking lanes.
Not all of us have the luxury of having two or more centers to choose from if the lanes are toasted at our home center. So, if we wanna throw, we gots to roam.
@@TheHabstrick LoL I spend enough at my house that if I call and ask for a lane to be oiled and the pattern I want on it, I get it. It's also funny that you assume I don't drink when I go bowl.
Was a taught a very easy method to address this: finishing hand positions. When throwing for most curve and power, point the index finger and slice the ceiling. When throwing for mild curve and power, put the tip of the middle finger in the ceiling. When throwing for little to no curve and power (aka straight ball), put the tip of the third finger in the ceiling. When throwing a backup ball, drive the pinky into the ceiling. Works with any ball on any lane condition.
Thanks for this video. I'm bowling with neighbors tonight and they think I'm a really good bowler. But day after Christmas, kids, adults all day long on the lanes. We'll bowl sometime around 8:30 tonight. The lanes will be toasty. This also describes our league lanes by 3rd game. Great to see you use technique and strategy.
This without a doubt one of your best videos for a advanced bowler I would love to see more on lane conditions and matching the right ball. What to look for & how to read the lane and ball reaction. I have recently bowled on some super beat up lanes and my hustle wine kept going through the head pin but my Jackal Ghost on the same mark was just carrying great. I also have really good luck with my (MCP) blue tank on these type conditions. On paper it is a weak ball but it is a beast on conditions like this. I never had more than 2 balls until 3 years ago. Man building a serious arsenal make all the difference. My average went up 30 plus pins. You guys are awesome and one of the reasons I have improved.
Great video. I ran into this yesterday. The lanes were dry from go. First practice game was figuring things out which I did about the 7th frame. Then the next game was great posted a 257. But the next two games it was a struggle to find the right spot or my targeting or angle was off when I moved in. Thanks for all you do, I enjoy the lessons and use them to improve my game a little at a time.
This was an extremely helpful video - I enjoy rolling my DV8 Collision and it's the first ball I've used that's reactive - I'm very slow when cold so I always start way left, but now I starting to understand more on how to control my rev rate and judge the lane - This was definitely great in helping to visualize what's going on
Reiterate…just incredible info. I am an older bowler and am just struggling to open up my angles, it’s just new to me, but with lots of practice I will be able to use it soon, I hope. But I simply love your explanation, of really the duality of strategy. There are many ways of getting the results you want. Ball choice, angle changes, speed adjustment..and not one choice is the ultimate one. It’s a feel, intuition thing sometimes. It’s a complicated sport. This week I chose a ball on the first game that I thought was the wrong choice from an intellectual aspect, but it was feeling great in warm up. It was a symmetrical pearl I use as my ball starts to jump off the spot with my strongest ball. At first it did not work but with slower speed it started to eat the pins. You never know always why it works and sometimes you make it work. But ultimately seeing what your ball is doing and reacting is the key. Thanks again, you two are the best
I added the Hustle Rip to my arsenal about two months ago because my house I league in tend to transition quickly. I had it drilled pin down and a little left of center to my ring finger. Absolutely love it and it has helped a ton. Plus I hammer 10 pin spares with it
Thanks for the video guys! I enjoyed it very much as well as the info you provided. I do have a question though; I'm getting back into the sport (haven't bowled league in about 25+ yrs), how do I figure out which brand & ball is best for me? Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see 1 or both of you on the next TV show!!!
If you are just getting back into the game, don't worry about brand yet. Look for a ball that will be versatile for you. Look for mid-level hook. If you have low revs/high speed, get a slightly more aggressive ball. Less aggressive if you have more revs/lower speed. Finding the brand that works best for you is only through experience. When you start buying multiple balls over time, you will see a trend of which manufacturer works best for you. Fab (original Hammer line) was my favorite, followed by Brunswick. But times change. I now favor Storm.
To expand on your last point: there was usable oil in this video and low revs and speed will work in that case. But there are times when it is so burnt up that you don't have the strength to loft the gutter even for that. In that case I go to the ball with the most aggressive core and roll the ball almost straight end over end. At some point the core will make the ball turn over a little and give some angle. The advantage this has is it is VERY controllable. There is not a lot of carry so you won't get 250, but 210 is doable. And on conditions that bad, 210 is a good place to be.
I've seen plenty of videos on 4-5 step approaches, the push away, etc. However, I've never seen a video on how to adjust for when bowling in front of the ball return. Kyle, it looked like you were only taking 2 or 3 steps. A video on how to adjust for that would be beneficial.
Those returns are very close at that bowling alley. I'm a two-hander who was never able to figure out how to drift left during the approach so I'm infront of the ball return for everything inside 3rd arrow. Normally I'm taking a 3 step approach and don't feel crowded at all but there it is more like 2.5 steps there; I would also like to see that video, specifically at that alley.
There's like a 10 year old video of some guy explaining a 3 step approach from in front of the ball return, if I find it I'll update my comment with the link.
Great video guys! This is one of your best. Very informative and y’all did a great job explaining what you are seeing and how you adjust from it. I would love you guys to do a video explaining your adjustments when you leave 10 pins, 2 pins, etc. I think you have done one before but I really get a lot out of you talking about it.
I grew up on drylanes. I developed a great technique for drylanes. Over the last 10 years I've only had to use it once. If I was bowling on a completely stripped Lane it would take me a little warm up to get the technique back but it's something I'll never forget.
Ran into this exact situation yesterday at R.P.Western. Zero oil and I have Phaze II, Fate, and Eternity in my bag. Eternity was the only thing with polish on it. Had to go from 6 thru 8 to 15-ish to 20 for any hold at all. Thank you for this video! I prefer these educational videos to ball reviews. Everyone does opinion pieces.
When I try and play that deep, I always seem to pull the ball. How do you guys combat pulling the ball when playing that deep? You guys rock! Thanks for the informational videos!
Aligne your bowling shoulder, you hand your forearm and your hips to the primary target. There's no way you are gonig to hit those extreme lines by being square to the line.
great breakdown, especially when you went from gem to hustle bc thats the issue i get in league when i ball change some times.. then i get lost and wind up throwing spare ball right at the pocket 😂
Thanks you Brad that what I do...and it does wonderful results.. my question is do you used the weak ball or the stronger ball for it to set? What is best..I couldn't see the ball you used.
Great content guys! I deal with dry lanes all of the time. It's strange because they dress the lanes as we are coming in to get ready for our league. I am guessing they are using a low viscosity oil or just a very low volume. My Hustle M-M and Pitch Black has bailed me out on more than one occassion. Great stuff!
Wish I would have watched this 3 weeks ago when the oil machine was broken. I suffered like everyone else on week 1 of the league. So, at least I wasn't alone. Great videos and info as always! Thanks!
Another great video guys. Here's an idea for another video. How can you identify when your ball is burning up? Losing just that little bit of energy where you lose striking power and just a little ball reaction. Then how do you adjust to that? Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas!
It makes me feel better as an amateur bowler to know that even though I have a 195 average, lane conditions and house oil patterns can make it very easy to shoot 130 games or under, and that it's nothing but trial and error to find something that works. Bowling today has become much more challenging than it was 20 years ago because of the way lanes have changed and trying to bowl with 7 other people on lanes throwing completely different shots every time.
Watching your videos almost makes me want to bowl again. I bowled as a "stroker" for 40+ years, then quit when the covid thing happened. But I'm almost 70, and "high rev rate" is out of the question. Do you have any videos on bowling for seniors?
Not gunna lie, it was fun to watch you struggle adjusting, because that is bowling. Equipment builds and the mechanics of our swing so important, and no 2 are the same 😉
i seen this video back wen it dropped and i’m back now after getting better i was wondering if you only have strong balls for money reasons would it be a strategy to flatten your shot would be an option ?
You briefly talked about the ball entry into the pocket. Can you have a session talking about ball path entry path. What is the good or bad of straight on vs angular. Ball reaction after entering the pocket. What will be left standing. What can you do or which ball to alter your usual path to get more of the other path. I'll leave it up to you to add more on the subject. Thanks...😊🎳
Great video. I see you can have problems like the average bowler. I am an older bowler and bowl in a senior league. The shot we get is terrible. The lanes are oiled the day before and 1 league bowls on them and then there is 5 hours of open bowling. We get the left overs. I can’t get my speed up enough to over power the lanes. With a shiny ball I get the reaction of your Hustle and with the dull ball (Mesmerize) it looks like the Magic Gem. I just purchased an IQ Tour hoping that might have less backend and easier to control.
I also have this, but I have this on wetter tracks and especially in house leugea. Our courts are quite wet and I throw arrows 2 to 3 and then faintly outside. However, I have two who should be strong. Roto rip Duo and Halo, but you often can't get away with it on this track because they sometimes go too straight. If I take the Hustle or even the Hysteria, I do a lot more and sometimes I find that very strange.
Great vid once again! This week in league the lanes were almost as bad as what you guys just demonstrated. I bowled like Sh$&. I carry a 198 average and i was so frustrated i threw a 560 (3 game block) The week before i was lacing the pocket and threw an 690. I realized its a mental thing. I went into this week thinking i could throw the same line and got burned. So i was lost.
Video showed why I no longer use or try to use my Tropical Surge when the lanes are dry despite it being for dry lanes. It is too unpredictable and hooks all over the place. For dry lanes or no oil (literally when center says they didn't oil the lanes), I'd rather use plastic.
My league is the second shift of the night on old wood lanes and some nights the outside part of the lane is in play and the best and some it is reversed. And 2 seasons ago I got away with throwing a sanded Geico viz-a-ball but now when the outside part of the lane is in play for me I make all movements and adjustments for all my bowling balls but it is either throw fast with a very aggressive ball or slow with a very weak ball and big wheel
Good info for bowling on what I like to call the "Camel Fart" pattern, which is what my league bowls on every Sunday night. So far I've had pretty good success with a Tropical Surge on these dusty, dry lanes. Been considering getting a new, slightly more aggressive ball, but not sure what the next best ball up from this would be for use on a very dry pattern...
thanks brad & Kyle at the house i bowl in everyone play the 2nd/3nd arrow and it dries up quicky but when I move left it seems like my balls don't want to hook back when i throw out to 2nd arrow any ideas thanks for all the info
Excellent video! I bowl at lanes where the oil is only put down once a week on all lanes. Only the lanes used for the league get oil on league nights. Makes practicing on the weekend really hard.
Great video. My lanes seem to dry up quickly where I bowl. I don't know if there's a video out there or not for this issue, but I don't know how to get the wide angle on my ball. I usually play 13ish as a left-hander and break at 7-10. When I try to go and try to do 18-25, it just goes straight and ends up in a disaster.
So Brad, I have a storm journey and after a month Im really not to happy with, I can make the adjustments you talk about for dry lanes and can get into the pocket (left handed), I don't know if its not carrying or what . the sound is like a dull thud and there very little pin action my hy road is a little better is the ball losing energy when it turns in and if so. will I need a redial or an adjust meant on my part?
This is one of the better tutorial on this subject. I think you could have broke this into two videos, high rev & low rev players. You all showed one throw representing a lower rev player. All in all, a good tutorial.
Is urethane (Purple Hammer) a good choice for extreme dry? I have the HyRoad to get through smoothly on the dry, but I have had success with the PH too. I have a fairly high rev rate.
What would you suggest that I do in a bowling alley that has above ground ball return because the lanes are underground? I can only move so far left and play the hold without being on top or kicking the ball return. Would you suggest moving to a weaker ball with a pearl coverstock or something with a smaller core? Also I'm 2 handed rev dominant and throw at 14ish mph so I can't really speed up more to play the straighter shot.
I really like how you guys referred the balls as "the strong ball", "the purple ball", etc. As a youth coach, a lot of kids have equipment that they don't know the name of, but they know what it does. Another great video guys. Here's an idea for another video. How can you identify when your ball is burning up? Losing just that little bit of energy where you lose striking power and just a little ball reaction. Then how do you adjust to that? Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas!
The conservation of energy at the end explains why sometimes when throwing a Tropical Surge it actually breaks more than my Black Widow Pearl. Thanks!
Awesome video! What about Urethane on a dry shot?
You briefly talked about the ball entry into the pocket. Can you have a session talking about ball path entry path. What is the good or bad of straight on vs angular. Ball reaction after entering the pocket. What will be left standing. What can you do or which ball to alter your usual path to get more of the other path.
I'll leave it up to you to add more on the subject.
Thanks...😊🎳
Tq..nice
THANK YOU! This video came at a perfect time! We just left an alley that pretty much had NO oil 🤣💯
We got ourselves a Brad Miller "wooooooow" sighting 🤣
Great vid once again! This week in league the lanes were almost as bad as what you guys just demonstrated. I bowled like Sh$&. I carry a 198 average and i was so frustrated i threw a 560 (3 game block)
The week before i was lacing the pocket and threw an 690. I realized its a mental thing. I went into this week thinking i could throw the same line and got burned. So i was lost.
Like to see tips on over/under reaction.
The lanes i bowl on hook at the arrows! Have to use plastic spare ball to keep in play
Harmony Bowl in Colorado Springs I saw a cloud of dust puff up off the lane when I threw it. 😆
this video is excellent
This video is an outstanding example of "Stronger Ball does not necessarily mean 'More Hook'"
This is an interesting subject to discuss.
Stronger ball does mean moree hook. It doesn't mean more shape/backend motion.
thanks brad & Kyle at the house i bowl in everyone play the 2nd/3nd arrow and it dries up quicky but when I move left it seems like my balls don't want to hook back when i throw out to 2nd arrow any ideas thanks for all the info
I am an owner of a magic Jem and a hustle this was a great video for me thanks
Any references for low rev speed dominant player when playin on light oil?
I noticed you’re using a 3 step approach in front of the ball return. Can you make a video explaining how to do it and when to implement it. Thanks
Just curious! Would you consider axis tilt or axis rotation change in throwing on dry?
So when would urethane come into play if that's in your arsenal
What ball did Brad throw at the end? Great vid, guys.
Brad threw the Zen GL at end.
thanks @@michaelfinley9988
Brad should do the same thing on the same pattern to demonstrate what a lower rev less axis tilt bowlers thought process
