There's a big design flow here. I'm not supposed to go on youtube to understand that I have to put a morph bomb on his head when it enter its last phase. It makes it even more frustrating for a boss that could have been cool otherwise.
@@yee6870 No, it's an actual design flaw... explain me why the missiles and super missiles don't work, it literally goes against logic because that's clearly one of the things one tries and fails so the logical thing is that the thing isn't throwing ammo to while it is aspiring
Gotta trial and error it. Only so many possibilities for him to be hurt (like 5 options at most). Enjoyment with this boss really depends on the person's tolerance level for figuring stuff out in the middle of a battle. He's like a Zelda boss but in a Metroid title. I say this having hated Diggernaut my first playthrough lol, but he's great now.
Are you guys not paying attention? During the entire game you see vents that suck your bombs in and you know that the spider ball sticks to the ground. It makes sense and there isn’t any design flaw just because you have to think about something for once
After watching your video I finished this boss on the second try....before this video I was getting my ass kicked by the first phase, I was trying to get the pattern down but this video helped out a lot. This was the first time I had to look up something for a boss in this game. Epic fight! But I just don't like how enemies and bosses take so much damage off Samus so easily.
The easiest way to avoid the second drill attack is to turn into a morph ball and hide in the corner until he is done. Can’t touch you there. Jumping through gives risk of getting hit and losing a lot of health
This boss was way too difficult. An absurd spike in difficulty. I put this game down for a year because of this thing. That said, I appreciate you making this tutorial.
@Starscream91 You're absolutely right. But I beat the Diggernaut eventually, and following getting the pattern down I can do it in one go every time. That's growth!
It's not that this boss was hard, it was just poorly designed. I had no idea that the things in the third phase had to line up. And I had no idea that I had to bomb inside the vortex. This boss would have been really cool if it were more clear.
@@rohandatta7111 That's the problem I had with it. It's not super hard, just waaaay to obscure as to what you're supposed to do. Especially the 3rd phase where you have to cling to its face with spiderball and bomb it. Why would I ever think to do that as a player?
Thanks a bunch, this was extremely helpful. Fight seemed like absolute spaghetti to me the first few attempts and this made it very methodical and simple. Very cool of diggerface to make me spend several minutes in the final phase dodging garbage while his faceplate refused to line up.
Hey guys another thing to note is that you can spider ball onto his face by the reds spots in the final phase when there is blue electricity. Only the red spots though, every other part of his face will hurt you when there is blue electricity.
Thank you, I can’t believe you got munched four times and still ate that tin can for lunch! So yesterday, I got to the third stage and freaked out at the red lasers and died. Never done that before. Then tonight I fought him about eight times and actually goddamn beat him!! I can’t believe it and I owe you a big power bomb thanks!
In a fight like this, to make things easier, you can tap the bottom screen of your DS to quick-change in and out of the morph ball. You can do this mid-air as well. Though this can get a little tricky with the amount of stuff that you're having to do on this fight to begin with, but sometimes it helps if you find yourself in a bad position.
1. Kill all pink balls, by running left to right; they regen you a lot and you can get to 3rd phase at almost full HP; 2. Use spiderball for bombing in 3rd phase and you will get it.
This boss is awesome in terms of mechanics and flashiness but they are two porblems: he is too trial and error heavy and the third phase was way to cryptic. Great fight nonetheless.
It was frustrating rather than hard. I became a robot too by avoiding all of his routine moves. In the last phase I just couldn't understand what to do even if I tried everything because it was tricky requiring ridiculous precision. I hated this bastard. I'm having a really good time with the game but it has issues, it's repetitive and unnecessarily huge. I'm around at 45% around 20 hours game time. What to say.
This game made me fall in love with Metroid ... I can’t believe I haven’t gotten into it before it was around 2 years before I was even born I had no excuses to not give it a try before .. I’m absolutely obsessed now
I was able to figure out the boss's attack patterns and make it all the way to the end. Then its head starts to glow, and I'm like, "Oh. It must be open to attacks now." I shoot missiles, super missiles, tried the rapid fire aeion move, every attack just bounced off. Repeated the phase another two times, only thing I hadn't tried were morph bombs, so I turn into a ball, leap onto him, and I die on contact. I had to look up a guide to figure out how to finish him off. That last part is just so unintuitive.
THANK YOU! I gave up on getting the bombs sucked up by the vacuum, I kept trying but it didn't work so I couldn't figure out how to even damage him in that third phase.
This would be a very good fight, if the morph ball into the drills weren’t miss leading and janky. You can go in by rolling, but be careful, if the platform is rotating it will hit you, even if logically you’d be fine. Also the hit box for the drill is a bit bigger that it is visually. And the biggest thing I hate about this fight is you can’ phase through the drill when you are on the outside but if you are inside and one of the drill parts starts moving even a little bit, it will shove you through the drill which you couldn’t phase through before, basically throwing all logic out the window. Otherwise it’s a great boss in my opinion.
The easiest way to avoid the giant drills when they come at you horizontally is to morphball as far into the bottom right corner as possible. Far easier than trying to jump through them, especially considering the control response seems to SUCK TERRIBLY sometimes.
I came to Samus Returns after finishing Metroid dread on Dread Mode and beating hard mode around 10 times. So, when I came to this game it was super easy. I breezed through everything, even the Omega Metroid without dying but then this thing put an end to that. I've died to this boss alone more than both my first and second Metroid Dread playthroughs combined. That's over 30 times. The worst part about this boss is that it doesn't belong in this game, it's a difficulty spike so extreme that I've honestly never seen anything like it in my entire 30 years of gaming. What's worse is doesn't even make sense because after dying almost 30 times to it, the Queen Metroid, nor Ridley who was the true final boss killed me. I was able to beat both bosses after this one on my first attempt, just like the rest of this game. It's so weird that they did this.
Man that last shot in the cutscene was so satisfying. I didn't touch this game for a long time because of this stupid ass overpowerd boss.. He has way too damaging moves
I was lucky enough to know the method for beating this boss since I looked at some of the boss fights before deciding if I should get the game or not. Made it infinitely easier, only died to it 2 or 3 times I think, and that was because i messed up my timing.
