The thing that bothers me most about this is that if the cops had found two innocent but plausible suspects, Jussie would have eagerly helped send them to prison and never looked back. Narcissists like him are dangerous.
Narcissists don't have shame, remorse, regret, empathy, NO feelings for anyone, no people like this would be insulted that you would think they should feel any of those feelings for others. Only their feelings count.
Right. Absolute embarrassment. Interview after interview, hearing your words played back, watching yourself pull emotions that you didn’t experience out…… I would have went into hiding
i legit heard a woman call his actions "lightweight noble" because "these things are happening. and he took it upon himself and put himself in the firing line to fight for things that are really happening" That is up there with the dumbest things ive heard someone say in my entire life
This is so true, the first time I ever heard of his existence is when his stunt hit the news. He was never anymore than a C list celebrity. Maybe with time he could have become famous but he decided to do this crap instead of putting in the work.
@@patmccrutch3927if I remember it’s about a family within the music industry and he’s the son of a mogul basically. The show was mainly popular with the black community
Yes, I had no idea who he was before this. I had heard of the TV show Empire only because people had talked about a female character named Cookie. She was played by a woman that had previously been on this show called Person of Interest. I love her. Can't think of her name now. Sorry.
Jussie said during the interview," they're trying to separate us, and it's just not okay." That is such an ironic statement to make since he knew his hoax would cause fear and separation among people in the US. I really get embarrassed for him each time I watch him speak. The fact that he is still trying to save face *to this day* and claim his innocence is astounding.
I think my favorite remark on the absurdity of Jussie's story was by Trevor Noah. This one question that lays bare how implausible the whole thing was: "Who are the MAGA supporters who hate gay people, who hate black people, but also happen to watch Empire?"
Maybe he said that after the fact. I’m sure he fell for the whole thing and was calling cries of “racism” like all the other left-wing assholes until tell the truth came out.
I don’t know why but watching a man lying about a hate crime on national TV who says “fear mongrels” instead of “fear mongers” just made me feel like nothing in my life is really that bad. I could always be this dude.
My sister adopted a mixed breed shelter dog that has severe anxiety issues from being abused by his previous owner. Technically she has a “fear mongrel”… Poor Jetski, he’s doing a lot better these days.
You know what’s worse here - it’s the fact that so much effort was put into this investigation because he was “somebody.” But for the rest of us normal nobodies, assault cases like this have minimal investigation so long as the person survives.
Great point. He was also a member of the 'persecuted minority'. He should get what he asked for...a lynching. Sub zero sympathy for him,his kind and the sycophants jumping around him like plagued fleas on a rat. I'm ashamed to have willingly viewed this sham spectacle.
It was being thoroughly investigated because the cops didn’t believe him. They were looking for evidence against him. Trust me, it was very obvious to the police from day one this was staged.
It's not the way you think, though. If our case was going to have reporters at the station showing updates on tv every night - we would get the same treatment. It's not because he was so important, it was for their protection because it was going to be front page news. They knew he was full of sht when he first told them the story - they did the investigation to prove it to protect themselves when they came out and said it on national news.
I was a 20 year old female when I was brutally pistol whipped at my job as a night auditor at a hotel during an armed robbery. Never quite got over it. This guy disgusts me.
What bugs the hell out of me is how he presents himself as someone who cares about POC, yet he was willing to throw 2 black men under the bus to save his own skin. 😡
As a black gay man who has had slurs thrown at him before, this whole case is just laughable and sickening. I truly feel he’s a greedy narcissist who is too caught up in his own pride and fame.
Yes, in the beginning of this segment, the narrator mentioned that Smollet had hit a ‘plateau’-and whilst i saved money for traveling around this beautiful planet-I have become a practicing Buddhist-without a belief in reincarnation. I’ve always had empathy for child actors, as well as the conditions of economic privation under which people in ‘the greatest country’ are forced to attempt to raise their children. The fact that Scientology encourages this is enough to make it suspect-I very much feel that the children of directors and actors ought to be enough. If anyone is interested, and black americans were very much at the forefront of this movement of the few to not ‘homeschool’ but ‘unschool’ their children, Astra Taylor gives a talk about her own experience simply playing as a child, and the fact that children naturally are interested in learning, they certainly need NOT to be institutionalized into what I recall during my first year as being damned close to the adult work week, and ‘socialization’ does come up, as she and her siblings noted that ‘school kids’ were unabashedly ‘mean’. It’s an excellent conversation, and Finland has succeeded in improving their education by adding a good chunk of: *PLAY to their student’s day*

Dude really treated life like it was a movie. Using that gay Tupac line twice in seperate instances and talking so pretentiously about himself like he is some kind of MLK figure is beyond cringe.
Right? Like at his show days afterwards where he tells the crowd he had to be there and not let those mfs win. He hoped to look like Bob Marley (a true hero) who sang at a concert after being shot and said something similar. 🙄
One of the things that stuck out to me was during the interview, he describes getting home and “there was no food”. He says it like someone talking about going hungry because they’re poor, or because they live in an area plagued by famine. Not the way someone would if they were describing running out for a sandwich because they hadn’t gone grocery shopping since getting home. Like he’s trying to evoke sympathy with every word. I dunno. Maybe I’m just reading too much into it.

That was my immediate thought too. Ive never had a noose around my neck but i coukdnt imagine choosing to wear one for an hour because it would make me feel vulnerable and weird and im not someone who was 'attacked by racists' and forced to wear one. . .
Ugh, it’s so hard to watch him valiantly mentioning how he “fought back” making it look like he was holding back tears. This guy is absolutely the worst. He set victims of all kinds back many years with this b.s because people will always be able to say “how do I know this victim is real? Remember Jussie Smollett?”
I dont know if this is just me but im not easily spooked but i find people crying on command terrifying outside of his role in acting. Tears might come easily to a person but fuck me if i ever clocked myself pretend crying even if i possessed that skill id be questioning my motivations and who that makes me.
'set victims back years'. That's not entirely correct. There are victims in false accusation claims Derpy. Not really in this case but let's imagine what would have happened if there were two white guys walking around that area, that night. If they had arrested 2 random white guys that night, the immediate pressure by mainstream media to lock them up and throw away the key would have been immense, there could have been riots if they weren't. The police may not have even bothered following the brothers in the taxi. In any verdict, those white guys' lives, as they knew them, would have been over and they may have to live the rest of their lives in fear and/or jail. Mainstream media would have done the works, linking them to white power groups and digging up any bad joke they made on social media and those guys, just out walking, would have been turned into public enemy number one. Would Jussie have stopped them from being locked up for it? Of course not. Would they have been instantly guilty in the court of public opinion? Very likely. Would people care if they had been found innocent, and they can could go back to their lives as normal? No. Their lives would have been destroyed. It is good that we are reminded that there are victims of false accusations. This case brings them a step forward to being recognised (something you failed to do). Although this is a hypothetical, and fortunately there weren't any victims like this here, please don't ignore that there are very real victims of false accusations. We shouldn't rush to judgement and we should wait for more evidence and the police and courts to do their jobs. The court of public opinion and social media, sensational reporting makes this hard for stupid people but a case like this is exactly what is needed to remind them not to rush to judgement! Wait for the facts people. Just wait for the facts.
The thought of Juicie sitting in his apartment for 45 minutes with a noose around his neck is hilarious 😂 adjusting it like a bowtie when the cops come
I went to school with Jussie's older brother, JoJo, decades ago. I remember one time their mother came into our homeroom class and began to yell and berate the teacher because Mrs. Lucas (teacher) had an issue with Jojo taking large amounts of time off school to act. I specifically remember their mother making a big scene and she kept repeating how he (JoJo) was booked for the show "Roseanne." And that somehow made them a big deal and didn't have to adhere to the rules. I was probably 13 at the time and found it all very weird and embarrassing.
I had a similar experience but not with a child actor for movies but a child model for advertisements. The parents were hard on her and she couldn't play like other kids because she always had to have perfect skin, nails, hair etc. She'd stay inside during lunch breaks and didn't go on play dates because she said she had to do homework. The poor thing would cry if she didn't pass her tests with an A+ and got just an A, because she knew she'd come home to angry parents. Those kind of parents are monsters. She was only 10 and 11 when she was in my class.
Wow...poor teacher! 😳😢 I'd have an issue with a student taking too much time off from class unless I got a note from a student's mother explaining his or her absence. Just our of curiosity, how was Jojo able to keep up with school work? 🤔
@Tanya Kasim Hi, It was the late 80's early 90's. There wasn't much oversight back then, compared to now. I don't remember Jojo missing large amounts of time, but when he did, it was a few weeks at a time. My school was known to foster and support famous kids and children of diplomats, politicians and local peofessional sport star's. I only got in the school because my mother used her bosses influence to get me in. I stuck out like a sore thumb, lol.
@Navajo 23 what school? I just looked and found an obscure article that stated what middle and high school they went too, so I'm interested to see if you're lying
I often think of all the stupid things I've said in my life when I'm laying in bed at night. But this has to be one of the most embarrassing things someone can do, on such a huge scale
I think it's very telling that he cannot help but insist that he fought back and even got a hit in on the attacker. It really exposes his narcissism, and the fact he's never really been attacked. The fact he cannot admit even when lying about an ambush, that someone got the better of him, makes it so obvious he is a narcissist.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I couldn't help but laugh at how accurate that statement is. He is exactly the kind of man to be a victim in a bank robbery but also come out with some of the cash which he managed to grab while he was tied and laying face down during the robbery
Narcissist is the right word. Keep using it. Nobody gives a 💩 about fairness to narcissists, because, by their very nature, narcissists don’t care about fairness to others.
I'm from Chicago, and most people thought he was full of shit from the start he said he was going out to get a sub sandwich at 1 am when it was -2 degrees outside that day.
That's exactly what I said here in Wisconsin. I'm from Chicago and made a joke that if he walked for a Polish, or Italian beef combo, deep dish...then I would understand 😅
Good for him for doing the right thing, though. I'm glad he didn't go along with his wishes and called the police and put it into action. He's someone you can rely on to take care of you, that's for sure!
It’s super rare you’re gonna find a manager in the entertainment industry that genuinely cares. Jessie apparently had one and he took it for granted like everything else.

That little speech Jussie gave at the end of his sentencing professing his innocence should tell anyone how much of a narcissist he truly is. It's like he's already thinking of the future, like this is going to be the fantastic inspirational scene in which the actor who plays Smollett in "the inevitable biopic" will nab an Oscar for.

Robin is such a great interviewer. She doesn't establish her perspective and lets him speak. Further, she uses a great reporter's best tool, silence, to let him keep sharing more baffling embellishments to his story that ultimately rendered it more unbelievable.
I feel like good interviewers have had some level of psychological training or have the knowledge. The silence technique is used by police interrogators to create awkwardness in hopes they continue to talk and talk. And it works, especially if the person is a liar.
Robin is usually very good but she fails to ask basic questions and after the fact admits there were red flags...... She didn't challenge him on anything. If this was a Republican or Trump supporter this would of been very different. The media is just as much a disgrace as Jussie.... The media doesn't care about the truth. The media cares about pushing their agenda, dividing and conquering the American people.....
There is a saying that goes, "A wise man says what needs to be said. A fool just needs to say something." Jussie just proved himself a fool by not shutting up when he needed to.
Could have caused a race riot. Could have gotten people killed. Could have put two innocent men who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time in prison. All for his goddamn ego.
I was attacked in 2013 (as in, actually attacked, unlike Jussie 🙄). You are spot on when you said that someone who has been attacked will want to distance themselves from what just took place. Jussie stated he was worried about "police brutality" so then why would he ask the cop to turn off his body cam? That doesn't add up, we all know he's a liar but I just wanted to point that out also lol
And when he said he was concerned about police brutality, I thought he was concerned about his Nigerian friend whom he paid to attack him, nope just about himself lol.
I feel so bad for his poor creative director. I think he's probably the one most traumatized by the whole thing: his friend and client has just told him that there are violent anti-Black racists in the neighborhood. Jussie knows there's no threat. But, his friend doesn't. His friend feels an implied threat against his person, really.
Ya, dude seemed genuinely concerned and I feel bad for him too. I also wonder if he felt that the story was unlikely in that he had first hand knowledge of the event. My favorite part is the, "I come hard at 45." It is hilarious that he tries so hard to sound tough yet is the farthest thing from it. The false bravado should have been a sign to all of us. I didn't see the interview until well after he was proven a fraud but me and some friends were out one night and were discussing how did these 2 MAGA thugs know to attack him, know who he was, and why would they have a noose and bleach on them?
He reminds me of Amber Heard in interviews. They both think they are great actors. They are both the hero's in their stories, which only damages real survivors because they're both making it seem like "Hey! Look how easy it is to fight back! The rest of you people suck for not fighting back when you're assaulted!" They're both gross. Since when is it desirable to be victimized? People used to hide that kind of stuff, which I don't think is right either, but now they're lying that it happened when it didn't. So strange people WANT to be victims. It's actually pretty scary that people are aiming for victimhood.

@@davemccage7918 Nah he's gay and cried like a baby about why he couldn't go to jail and that's more to do with it than his money. He's not even that rich.
Only a year? And what of the fact that if the police were able to find (and pin this on) 2 innocent white men, how long do you think their sentences would have been? He should’ve been charged with a hate crime and sent to jail for a decade, at minimum. And he should’ve been forced to pay for the entire investigation of this “crime” against him.
Honestly, he could have gotten away with it if he hadn't overcomplicated it, he wanted the attack to unmistakably be targeted at him. He never considered 'why would they care so much about you that they'd stalk you randomly at 3 in the morning?' Had he played it off as a random attack and not had his lackies screaming 'EMPIRE F*G!' and just made it racially motivated, he might have even gotten away with it. But no, he needed people to know this attack was aimed for him, that he was such a hot topic that people were hunting him specifically. Also, the noose was way too much, someone attacking you puts a noose around your neck they are looking to choke you, not dress you up for Halloween.
The entire scenario was beyond cartoonish. It was a hate crime parody, really. I’m surprised he didn’t have the two brothers wearing Confederate flag t-shirts with name tags that read, “Hi, My Name Is: BILLY JOE JIM BOB, How May I Oppress You, Today?”. Jussie is, at best, a mediocre actor. But his writing skills? Straight garbage. He definitely should’ve stuck to his day job while he still had one.
This "incident" happened on my birthday , so when i was getting calls, i thought it was "happy birthday" calls ...... it was "DID YOU SEE JAMAL GOT JUMPED?!" calls! *_THANKS A LOT, JUSSIE!_* 🖕🏽
This should become something like a folk story that people will remember a thousand years from hence. The future people will listen and wonder how a person like him could really be so ridiculous and shamefully pathetic. A tragic/comic play could hardly do better than what Jussie managed to accomplish with this role of an era.
Jussie's story is actually hilarious. As mentioned, it's how someone who has never, ever, EVER been in any kind of a fight in his life imagines how a fight goes down. No, it's not like the movies. Unless you are a really experienced fighter, it's going to be chaotic and bewildering, and you don't notice details.
@@charc0al_tv😂😂😂 My mother was mugged and actually managed to hang onto her sandwich which was squashed under her arm. Didn't even realize she still had it...
I think Juicy's bullshit highlighted a major issue. That is, people going out of their way to find or fabricate oppression for clout when real oppression never hands on them at all. The only oppression he really faced was a consequence of his mediocrity as a musician and actor. No MAGA person even knew he existed until this came forward with this bullshit and it really only went in their favor when the truth was revealed.
The type of sociopath he has to be at 53:19, to say, “we have these fear mongers trying to separate us. That’s not okay.” Sir that exactly describes what you did when you staged this attack.
Don't forget his proponents at the time claiming that even that the attack was fake, "he brought to light serious issues that are happening across America." BLM supporters didn't learn anything while they were being sold the biggest grift.
"I was talking to a friend, and I said I just want them to find them. And she said, 'Sweetie, THEY'RE NOT GONNA FIND THEM.'" With imaginary friends like that, who needs imaginary enemies??
Smollett made it harder for people to report hate crimes and discrimination. They aren’t taken seriously because of deception like this. He is disgusting and foul. There was literally no reason for him do this. Ugh!
Agreed. His own selfishness and greed affected so many others living those situations for real. Not much different than the Amber Heard with abuse claims. Her and her lawyer stating the verdict "set back women who are abused" while completely ignoring her lies set back ALL DV allegations while also reducing men who are abused to a side note and not important. What's worse is what you said: Literally no reason for him to do it. He had the world at his feet and has experienced 100 times the success of any person walking the earth. He could have been such a beacon and hope for so many different groups. It's a sad world we live in some days. 😔
He and Heard have both reminded us that anyone can lie, regardless of what race, gender, creed, sexuality etc they are. Which is why the Anglosphere's justice systems had the principle of scepticism towards everyone- victim, defendant, witnesses, experts. There has been a lot of effort by activists for the past few decades to change this to a principle of "believe the victim" or "believe this person because of their colour, gender, etc" and this is a wake up call.
Jussie is a celeb. His lying and saying he was attacked doesn't make it harder for regular people to report them and be taken seriously. If anything, it makes it harder for other celebs to be believed.
It’s called “fake oppression” this man had everything handed to him on a plate due to whos son he was. He never experienced any real hate crime in his life, so made one up, so sick and a huge disrespect to real victims
Yup. He is an actor and a millionaire meaning he can’t connect with real people. He could have used his wealth and success to help actual victims of hate crimes or violence but instead he wanted to be seen as a victim to gain sympathy and popularity. Many people are still mad at him because he not only made himself look stupid but also tainted the reputation of the BLM movement because people are still dying every day by police violence and it takes our attention of those real victims.
People have to remember how America was in such a dangerous place politically when he did this, it was incredibly irresponsible and outright selfish. One can only imagine all of the criminal investigations that went ignored for days and days.
Exactly, and then he has the nerve to try to come off as an activist for the disenfranchised, and ended up harming those groups instead, and all for his own selfish reasons…Such an A-Hole..!!
Right! It would be really awful if he had done all of this to genuinely advocate for black and lgbtq people, but the fact that he did this all so he could get paid a little more and get a little more screen time on a dying show is absolutely despicable and delusional.
My favorite part of this story is Jussie believing he could delete the calls and texts from his phone, and things would be fine, not knowing the police had already received his call logs from the carrier, and he was giving them a giant flashing red arrow pointed directly at the numbers on which they needed to follow up. It's hilarious how someone thinks they can outsmart, with a few hours of thought, the people who have all the time in the world and do this for a living. Just top notch ego.
I was actually laughing when you mentioned he didn't want the police involved but big name politicians were demanding they get involved to find out who had attacked him. I imagine him telling them he was thankful but inside he's just thinking "OH CRAP OH CRAP OH CRAP."
I remember immediately being suspicious of his story when he said his attackers shouted “This is MAGA country” at him. It’s Chicago. This city’s so Blue even the dead vote Democrat. Nobody from around here would wear a MAGA hat downtown unless they want to get hurt.
I looked it up out of curiosity and Clinton won 83% of the vote in 2016 in Chicago. You'd be hard pressed to find a place that's less "MAGA country" than Chicago. Like, *maybe* DC. Maybe.
This was my *first* thought.. I have been living here for almost 10 years and I haven't single a MAGA hat ONCE, much less dudes rocking them downtown. You'd get cussed, if not fully accosted, by one or more people I'd almost guarantee.

Especially when he comedically broke down how the responding officers and detectives would've reacted as they got the details from Juicey... "You were going to Subway... Sandwiches?! it's 2AM 15 below and you just had to get sandwiches??? Ok... And some guys in Red MAGA hats just walked up to you... in Chicago... OK, just one second... *Turns to other officer* Find out where Kanye West was around 2AM..."
I was so happy that most black people not only immediately identified this guy as being totally full of shit, but for also not defending him anyway even after knowing he was lying; at first I thought they'd say it was a racist conspiracy but people had no problem throwing him under the bus for being a lying piece of shite. The Obamas and the higher ups in Chicago and other rich black people and celebrities that chose to "stand by" him even after his story was proven false really embarrassed themselves. The woman in the Chicago justice system that tried to sweep the whole thing under the rug and throw out the case thought she would just get away with it like usually but this time there was so much media attention and people were so mad that it didn't work this time. There are SO MANY hate crime hoaxes especially on college campuses and other place where the demand for racism is sky high but the supply of actual racism or racist incidents is dirt low. So many people train for years at their college to be a soldier in the war for social justice and then when they get into the real world they are disappointed that the country is full of normal people just quietly living their lives. They're disappointed that people of different races have a lot more in common with each other than not and that there's far less hatred they they were made to believe in the pressure cooker of their college courses.
Jumping into the comments before watching to say how happy I am to see you covering this case. Ever since the JCS episode was taken down, I was hoping there would be more deep dives done regarding what happened with Jussie Smollett. Really looking forward to see the work you've done.
That opening meant the world to me. - guy who has chronic pain and depression and struggles to get out of bed in the morning. Rest of the video is good too
For real…by the time that bit was done I was staring at the ground in deep thought and his voice turned into “wahhmp wahhmp wah…” like the peanuts teacher. What kinda day will I have today!? Hope yours is good, friend.
I was suspicious from the start. As you mentioned, Chicago citizens were skeptical because of the weather. I live in Chicago and at that time, we were facing extremely cold temperatures. It was the coldest we've been since the 70s. Nobody wanted to go out of their homes unless they had to. That fact alone made me hesitant to believe him.
Not to mention, he apparently runs into two racists (who just happen to be out and about during a polar vortex) at 2AM who 1) know who he is (Empire not a real big hit with the MAGA crowd) 2) happen to be carrying bleach and a noose with them. I mean, come on.
In the concert he also says he didn't go to a hospital, and in the interview he says he did. There is a saying where I come from "If you wanna catch a liar ask him twice" Liars have a tendency to always change small details in their stories without realizing it
Going to a doctor or going *to* a hospital isn't necessarily the same as hospitalization, but his entire story is sewn together with toothpicks so any detail he tries to put in therr is just as useless in getting anyone to trust his story. Dude is delusional.
His use of the word "tussled" instantly revealed this as a lie when I first heard it. No one who was violently attacked by 2 bodybuilders is going to say "we tussled". Wtf...
He wasn't attacked by two body builders…….he was attacked by two white males, who watched a TV show with gay characters and was willing to wait outside in minus 20 in the hope that he would take a walk at 2 am so they could attack him
Watched this when it first came out, & wanted a refesher of this madness... dreading was one of the only shows that put it all together smoothly, thank you for always allowing the truth to show thru
The biggest sign he was lying is when he still had the noose around his neck when the cops arrived. Someone who was actually victimized with a noose would have taken it off immediately as it would cause more trauma leaving it on.
No kidding. That's pretty much verbatim what the dreading narrator said. You should awaken yourself about plagiarism and being a goofy, parrot like copy cat.
There were signs he was lying, but I would not call this the biggest one. There are trends but you can't accurately predict how every individual will react. Consider if what Smollett reported was true. We would be discussing his keeping the noose around his neck (or putting it back on when he knew cops had been called) as a sign of a completely different, tragic phenomenon.
Great video! Something you kind of glossed over was that the police had two suspects prior to catching the brothers. It's rarely acknowledged that in his scheme there was always a chance that two innocent men could have been at the wrong place at the wrong time and had their lives turned upside down at least or at most had their lives ruined if they had been successfully convicted of the crime.
Not only was it winter, he did this on the night of the polar vortex. It was beyond freezing. It was so cold that there were warnings to stay inside and places were closing. Which is extremely rare in the northern state that are used to cold weather and snow. I was in college at the time and while classes were cancelled, the cafeteria was open. The night after he made this claim I remember heading to the cafeteria, sitting on the sidewalks, and sliding on them because they were literally ice the next morning. He chose an absolutely horrible time to do this but he knew that no-one would be outside because of the negative degree weather.
Yeah it was - 20F outside that night. Like, that is death weather. To help put it in perspective for people, I tell them to imagine how cold 30F is. Now, subtract 50 degrees from that and you start to understand the intensity of the cold the night of the supposed hate crime.
@@kindasorta123 The temperature was -20F but due to the wind it felt close to -50F, cold enough to give frostbite to any exposed skin in under 5 minutes
Not to mention he claimed to be on the way to Subway to get a SALAD. Who the hell gets a salad at subway, what kind of rich celebrity doesn't have some food in his fridge, and who the hell wants a salad especially a crappy fast food salad when it is 20 degrees below zero. What an asshole
I couldn't stop myself from chuckling in disbelief throughout his entire interview. He truly is diabolical. Phrases like "they're trying to separate us" 💀 Isn't that what he did by making this mess up? Also his demeanor was so arrogant and self-righteous. One would think that a victim of a hate crime would be incredibly shaken while relaying what occurred and not so focused on useless details like what his manager was doing in Australia or constantly focused on his 'pride' as a gay black man🙄
One of the most sickening things about this that seems often overlooked is how he manipulated these two men, desperate to better their careers and support themselves, into being a part of this.
In L.A. Confidential, a gossip journalist tries to entrap a gay district attorney by sending him a disgraced actor to seduce him. That must be the Hollywood way.

There is a bigger plot here that people aren't picking up on. The Smollett family are tight with the DNC. Around the same time, Cory Booker and other democrats we're pushing "anti lynching legislation". As if lynching is acceptable. All of this to paint the MAGA movement and conservatives as racist, homophobic monsters.
@BlackBannerProductions I'd agree if he had shown even a small semblance of humility or accountability, but he hasnt. People like Jussie dont view second chances as graciousness and a chance to be and do better...people like him view second chances as passes for their bad behavior. So any second chance he might be offered would be squandered because he'd just double down and continue to lie and spit in the faces of real victims of hate crimes.
The fact that at the end of this he and his lawyer wanted the police to put the innocent nigerian brothers behind bars was one of the most ironic twist😪
He was B- list as he was breaking out in Empire. His family has been acting in Hollywood for 30yrs since they were kids, as seen in the beginning, but it was his younger sister Jurnee that made it big. Him getting Empire had something to do with having HER last name.
This is the first time I've ever seen the body cam footage of the cops discovering Jussie. Dude, that noose around his neck looks straight RIDICULOUS. Like it legitimately looks comical. Why would he ever think that was a good idea? Oh my god.
I'm still boggled that he 'planned' all this and wouldn't even go the extra mile to get his shit really kicked in to make it more real. Like imagine being that vain AND stupid. EDIT: As to the accusation that one of the brothers was his lover, that's evil on another level because being gay in Nigeria is illegal and in some states you can be put to death if found out. They might never have been able to go home again for legitimate fear of their lives.
He's definitely that vain and most definitely stupid but I can't say I blame him for trying. He just simply seen all the blind hate for anything Trump and figured the police would just take him at his word and im honestly kind of surprised it didn't work.
So we're supposed to not tell the truth about a criminal? We're supposed to cover for him? Maybe don't commit a fake hate crime in America if you want to go back and see your relatives. That's his responsibility not ours. I can't stand this victim mentality that applies even to criminals. Don't propagate that kind of BS.
This is just so mind blowing to me. He was on a hit tv show. There was a million other ways he could have drawn attention to himself if that’s what he wanted. He could have used the BLM movement to his advantage by actually supporting the cause and going on shows, podcasts, his own social media to share REAL stories from other people, and just generally speak of his own experiences (HELL even if they were made up!!) why the hell go to these extremes?! He could have also actually went out for other roles, I’m SURE he was getting offers. With a giant following a mega hit tv show gets he could have found the attention he needed just by being active on social media, starting a damn podcast a freakin tiktok!!? He’s musically inclined they love that sh*t over there! Such a shame this is the road he went down! And just baffling given all the opportunity he had
It sucks to admit but I'm pretty sure "helping the cause" didn't even enter his mind, at least not with any honesty. He probably TOLD himself he was helping the movement, but anyone with even an ounce of self awareness (and/or far less narcissism) would've been able to predict the damage this would do to actual victims of hate crimes. Like I'm surprised to see the comments here are relatively tame, tho I've seen some pretty questionable ones, including a rather uncomfortable placement of the phrase "a certain demographic"
As a black, gay man I've been a fan of his since the start of Empire and really liked seeing such an enigmatic person with those identities being spot lit on such a popular show at the time. So this was disappointing as a member of the community but MOSTLY disappointing to me as a Chicagoan that he'd try to execute such a poorly planned scam in my town. If you're gonna live here you should do better than that.
@Mike Hunt I'm sure I'd have liked him on the show if we didn't have those things in common since he is very talented but, when you're a part of a group that is represented in the minority (especially in mainstream, popular shows), it makes it more special to see that representation. Obviously, as a straight, white guy you'd rarely if ever have to experience that in relation to those identities. At least in mainstream media. Regardless, me liking him and what he represented at the time the show was airing really has nothing to do with him being a good person or not since I don't know him and wouldn't be able to speak to it. And that applies to almost every celebrity because I know very few personally. I'll continue to like seeing people who share notable identities with me in places I might not normally encounter them though because that's natural (even if how notable or common an identity's appearance is differs for each individual). Hope that clarifies.
@@bobymcgee It was NEEDLESLY complicated. To a laughable extent. His ego really shown through in his insistence that his imaginary attackers had to not only attack him for being black and gay but ALSO recognize him from Empire. Like he had to be acknowledged on all fronts for it to validate him. The show wasn't even popular anymore at that time! Guess nobody told him the old adage Keep It Simple Stupid. A plain old hate crime beating would have garnered him more sympathy without the theatrics but even THAT would be tough to swallow in Chicago which is generally pretty liberal.
All of his lines seemed so rehearsed. He clearly thought of what he was gonna say in advance, how could he not catch the irony of that statement and cut it out of his whole act? Man, he sure faked those tears like a pro, though. 😆
I attended a performing arts school and recall a classmate who'd always get sick and or injured during rehearsals but then miraculously get cured right before showtime. She had LOTS of talent, maybe even the most talented female there, but in every show she got sick or injured. In one show, she had popped her knee while walking her dog (supposedly) and was doing rehearsals, the blocking, etc. all while crawling because her leg was in a brace, and when it came time to sing her solo, she sang the entire solo (she had a great voice) while laying down on stage, and the entire cast and crew and dir. applauded her, the female director in tears. Everybody totally enabled her. After college, she got a job in professional show, pulled that shit, got fired, never had a career. If she had a career, I could see her trying to pull this shit. She married a rich guy, had two kids, divorced him, took his ass to the cleaners regarding alimony and child support. She was talented but yeah, loved the attention too much and went where she'd get the attention.
We had hybrid theater/band kids in high-school called "Notables" (not sure if that's what it's called elsewhere) who were basically like musical theater numbers and super intense cringe energy. I'd known one girl from 3rd grade on up who had a decent voice but was hardwired to seek attention so she'd overdue it a lot. She was the type that would be on a field trip with the class and if their was a lull in the action she'd break out into song to receive praise and applause from whoever might have been listening. The more she did it the further away from her we'd all get because after awhile it was just bizarre. Cut to high-school and she's a superstar in Notables and carried herself as such until we graduated. After that, she learned the hard truth regarding how "talented" she was from people that didn't know her or care where she came from and it almost destroyed her. She moved to Tennessee and got a job at this weird, musical type restaurant/dinner theater called "Howl at the Moon" or something where 2nd string kids who didn't make it in the biz could still do that kind of stuff. The thing was though, she was the only white person there and she grew up wealthy so everyone there hated her. Her downfall was letting all the male singers run through her to try and gain acceptance but it backfired and they thought less of her. She spent her entire teens and 20s focused on being famous and never went to college or bothered to learn a trade so she ended up morbidly obese, rough looking and working at big lots or something like that. She really did it to herself honestly.
Wow. This is the most complete history of the Jussie Smollett story i've ever seen. And your analysis of the minute details in the case and Smollett's fraudulent statements are impressive and revealing.
What never gets mentioned is that he went out during the polar vortex where it was like -20F outside. It was so cold that my eye moisture started to freeze if I didn’t blink rapidly. By the next day, temps had reached -50F and everything was shut down. There is NO WAY anyone would walk through that for some damn subway.
Yes and no way would someone who wanted to attack him be waiting for him to come outside, armed with bleach and a rope, MAGA hat, 2 AM, -20 degree Just in case Jussie comes out to Subway.
Wait, so you're saying that the thought of two angry Maga guys standing around in that weather at 2 a.m., holding a noose and a bottle of bleach, just hoping, just hoping... that someone they hated would walk right into their web, is a bit far-stretched? Hmmmmmm. Get ready for jail, Juicy! Bwahahahahahaha!!
I am sure that you, the gentleman who is the narrator and put this awesome video together get asked this question and maybe the answer is right in front of my face: Are you a psychologist? Or, a profiler? Your knowledge and insight to the people and stories that you share in your videos is the reason that guy stay so engaged, and get a better idea of these people and their thought process. Fantastic job! This is my fourth time watching this same video.
I live in Streeterville and I remember how shocking it was when this story broke. Within a few hours doubts started creeping in. This area is not MAGA country, it was the dead of a very bitter winter, and this area is basically dead at 2 a.m. with nothing open. The idea that some MAGAs were randomly walking around here at 2.a.m. carrying a noose seemed implausible. Especially the notion that they immediately recognized a B-list actor from Empire.
the noose was too far, he probably would've gotten away with it if he did'nt have the noose and MAGA country, and say they recognized him. he could've just said they walked past him and he was wearing a rainbow flag pin or something and that set them off.

@@sven_bender Even more unbelievable is that he's going to sit around in a bleach-soaked sweater.
@MotoCouple HG Tudor should do a podcast on the Smollett family.

There is a saying where I come from "If you wanna catch a liar ask him twice" Liars have a tendency to always change small details in their stories without realizing it
They also lie out of habit, when telling the truth would be better for their alleged objectives.
I thought he said he went to the doctor but he wasn't hospitalized. Which would make both statements technically true but sketchy.
Going to a doctor or going *to* a hospital isn't necessarily the same as hospitalization, but his entire story is sewn together with toothpicks so any detail he tries to put in therr is just as useless in getting anyone to trust his story. Dude is delusional.

The biggest sign he was lying is when he still had the noose around his neck when the cops arrived. Someone who was actually victimized with a noose would have taken it off immediately as it would cause more trauma leaving it on.

Also it's a threat to have on . Soon as I was out of the situation (the scuffle)
I would rip it off as to not have it pulled or used against me ..
The biggest sign was the story in general 😂
Great video! Something you kind of glossed over was that the police had two suspects prior to catching the brothers. It's rarely acknowledged that in his scheme there was always a chance that two innocent men could have been at the wrong place at the wrong time and had their lives turned upside down at least or at most had their lives ruined if they had been successfully convicted of the crime.
That's actually a very good point. Adding too much pressure to cops doesn't help at times.

Not only was it winter, he did this on the night of the polar vortex. It was beyond freezing. It was so cold that there were warnings to stay inside and places were closing.

@BlackBannerProductions I'd agree if he had shown even a small semblance of humility or accountability, but he hasnt. People like Jussie dont view second chances as graciousness and a chance to be and do better...people like him view second chances as passes for their bad behavior.
If you're gonna live here you should do better than that.
the scam had too many parts to it, and he was trying to scam the whole country. For what? Eventually in the long run getting a raise? that’s amateur.
She was talented but yeah, loved the attention too much and went where she'd get the attention.
looool your description of her laying down performance is great. Why does it make me imagine a dog show? Hmm..
