There have been some GREAT ladies of Jazz. Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, and Nina Simone to name a few. We have a new one to add to the list…..”Samara Joy”! Wishing you a long and prosperous musical career!
I don’t get to go to many concerts being on a fixed income but when I found out Samara was coming to Ann Arbor I tightened my belt and sprung for a ticket. It was so worth the peanut butter sandwiches for a couple of weeks. She is so warm and her voice is flawless. Some of the notes she hits just make your heart vibrate. She gives so much respect to her accompanists and they give it right back. And she talks to the audience so you learn a little about her life. I couldn’t stop smiling throughout the whole concert.
Imagine how satisfying it might be to play an instrument really well, but have someone with a voice SO AMAZING, they actually enhance the sound & quality of your instrument! 🤯🙌🏾🙌🏾 He’s great at it, but she’s mind-blowing- and that’s the awe he’s in! ❤
I just found out about Samara Joy. What a marvelous sounding voice. I had to go and find out more about her through the internet. I've been listening to her music on a daily basis since.
Every time I hear Samara sing I grow more impressed with her. A baby boomer here at 70+ years with a mom and 3 aunts who studied piano and voice I was exposed to music 🎼 early in life from classical to big band and jazz. Samara truly is an old soul when it comes to her talent Lena Horn and Sarah Vaughn come to mind. Samara you go and shine brightly you new star in the heaven of jazz. Hmm a little Nat King Cole influence. Loved him too.
So glad I watched the Grammy’s to discover this voice. Isn’t it a joy to find a new voice to follow? I’m excited to hear the many interpretations she’ll come up with.
More of this please! Wonderful to hear a singer that actually sings as opposed to auto tune, musicians that actually play as opposed to pushing buttons, and lyrics that don't consist of vile language. Thank you!
The world was introduced to the smooth sounds of Samara Joy on Sunday night at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards when she took home two Grammys, including the highly coveted Best New Artist!
She was introduced to the world via The Today Show and appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show when she received news of her Grammy nominations. I bought her CD as soon as it was released. I already KNEW she'd win Grammy's!!!
I am a guitar freak... Frank Zappa is my favorite artist. I grew up in the 60's and 70's. Joined the Navy in '78. I grew up in Memphis, TN, so I know Motown and Classic Rock. Frank Zappa has a lot of Jazz in his music, but to say I know a lot about Jazz would not be true. But every time I listen Samara Joy, I come to tears. So beautiful... silky vocals. Her expression and control is out of this world. So amazing to see this kind of talent in a world of Auto-tune. I ADORE Samara Joy.
I sincerely hope that our black youth are paying attention to Samara Jay. I want them to understand that Samara is paying respect to jazz music that is the foundation of American music that is a gift from black folks. The rhythms of r&b, gospel, jazz and hip hop are heard in all American music is rooted in the black community. And Samara Jay gives a fresh take on the classics and a nod to our black young artists that you can perform jazz classics and still be fly.
It was the 2023 Grammy's when I was blown away and became one of your fans! I have always loved jazz music but sistah, your voice is taking this genre to a new level. Blessings on your career. Keep singing!! I am a FOREVER FAN!!
Just saw you win Grammy for new artist. I quickly had to find out more about the artist with such an amazing talent. Your voice is absolutely mesmerizing!
I have been on a hunt for every instance of Samara Joy's performances. I can't get enough. I am amazed that she has been singing jazz for just a few years. She has amazing stylistic sensibilities as well as outstanding control of her phenomenal instrument -- the equivalent of an ability to "leap tall buildings in a single bound," i.e., she can smoothly jump from her robust chest voice to heady falsetto and soprano with crystal clarity. And just think, she's just getting started. 🤩💖
@Claudia Scott, I'm so inspired by Samara's stellar voice and gifted accompanying trio that I will reflect on her voice when I sit down at my piano and create some new music. Thank God for Samara, the Bronx, and New York...and the healing power of music!
It would be remiss of me not to thank the accompanying instrumentalists of Samara. The pianist is out of this world - just great as the piano and the voice dialogues beautifully. The bassist has got this smart soulful sound coming from the back ground. The drummer is not only a time keeper of the ensemble but his playing is magical. Listen to his melodic and soft touch on the skins of the drums with the brushes. He uses the drum-sticks softly, no wild percussive explosions. The whole ensemble is good at what they are doing individually and collectively. I guess it's a case of the whole is greater than the sum of the parts👌👏👏🎵🎶👍 Theo Kgapola Benoni GAUTENG.
This young lady has an amazing voice. She is breaking barriers for new artists coming behind her. She has a voice that is beyond her years. What a treasure. Keep rising to the top Samara Joy.

What a silky smooth voice. So this music still exists today. I thought it's since gone and forgotten. Thank God for SJ. My love is alive and well. Keep moving up old time jazz. It's immortal. Such an enthralling sound. Tnx again SJ.

This young lady's talent is phenomenal. I am in awe! Praying your life continues to share and enjoy this magical journey. I, too, am from New York--born and raised in Harlem and the Bronx--and a former student of CUNY at Lehman College. So I say, HEY GIRLFRIEND! from your ol' girl from the one and only Big Apple, as I just turned 72 on Sunday. Gotta admit--I didn't see you coming, sweet pumpkin, but I'm sooo glad you're here!!! 1/7/24: I'm on the late freight but, ever since seeing her for the first-time last week, I have been scouring RUclips for every performance/interview she's done. I love how she acknowledges the musicians in her band by naming them to the audience. She is captivatingly talented, well-spoken, gorgeous and with a very likeable personality but, most of all, she loves her family and is very humble and sincerely appreciates the success God has blessed her with; I just love her and wish her all the best in her career.

Samara Joy brings joy to my heart to know that the "classic jazz sound" will be around forever!!! Wonderful concert; her range is unbelievable!! Great job young lady; stay true to this type of music.
Congrats to Samara Joy on her Grammy win. This concert recording was awesome. I love her style. All of the musicians were on point (piano, drums, bass A++) and I also love that she is from my boro of the Bronx. My hats off to a beautiful and unique young lady that will be around for many years. Respect.
Thank you so much for having this video. This woman is a "Joy" ! pun intended. I just heard her on MSNBC, today and was blown away by her mature voice that speaks to the heart. ❣
Wow!!! U sound soooo wonderful jus like Nina Simone I just finish watching the Grammy award u won the new artist award so I look up and like the song who I saw today love this song congratulation to u girl
Absolutely AMAZING! Samara is blessed with an incredible voice! Absolutely gorgeous pure tone with a spectacular technique! I love it when she goes from the very low notes to the very high ones. That's not easy, but she does it and everything else effortlessly. Congratulations on your Grammy award, Samara! So well deserved!
Voice perfectly “integrated” top to bottom. Beautiful tone, judicious vibrato, rhythmic mastery. I thought this art form was dead, and I’m happy to be wrong.
What a JOY Samara Joy brings to my world of music. I am from the era of the greatest jazz vocalists and feel blessed to have had the opportunity over many years to have seen the finest of them in live concerts or in small smoke filled venues . My late husband & I would travel to see them perform in concert, building wonderful musical memories. We filled our music library with all the fabulous sounds of their talents that still thrill us today. How wonderful to add the new gifted talent and sound of Samara Joy. Age doesn't allow me to travel anymore, otherwise I most certainly would attend one of her performances. However, I am grateful for CD's & RUclips which make it possible for me to bring her beautiful voice and talent into my home. Thank You Samara for the JOY you bring.
Her breath control and lightness just brings me to that special place where a voice can exist in beauty. It isn't trying to convince us of its greatness. It is just great, feeling effortless while making it clear the skill here is remarkable.
Say that! I first saw Samara on tic tok a while back, and I knew she was out the gate, on her way to greatness with a capital G. She was signing Detour Ahead, and I listened to it repeatedly. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
14:52 and the few seconds that comes after are _PURE VIRTUOSITY_ I've been listening and singing jazz all my life, and oh my... she is astonishing ! She might be the best jazz singer of our times, I feel so lucky to able to witness her talent unfold in my lifetime.
Thanks to God we have a new Lady of Jazz! Samara Joy, Jazzmeia Horn and Esperanza Spalding (in my opinion) are, for this century, what Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Billie Holiday were for the past century.
Thank you Samara Joy for so beautifully reviving a magical repertoire. Your vocal skills are astounding and your musicality is up there with the very best. You are a cultural treasure ❤
when i listen to John Coltrane, i cry...when i listen to Sarah Vaughn, i cry, when i listen to Lady Day, i cry...when she hits these notes during the Carmen McCray song, i get teary...thats all i need to know about this woman's instrument. Ive already downloaded 10 songs for my playlist.

When I listen to Samara I experience pure joy. ❤❤❤
She holds a piece of my ❤. How Beautiful she is. What an Angelic Voice. T Y Terrell for introducing her to my musical World 😊.
I think her range is actually increasing. Well, they say singers' voices continue to strengthen well into their 30s. Either way, she's amazing.
I can’t wait until I see her live
