  • Political activist and chief of Swaraj India, Yogendra Yadav, speaks to Barkha Dutt in the 29th episode of our podcast 'Inside Out'.
Yogendra Yadav speaks about his life's transition from being a professor to a psephologist to a politician. From Anna Andolan to the formation of AAP, to Narendra Modi becoming the Prime Minister & Congress registering its worst defeat ever, Yadav has seen it all. "When BBC anchor announced that Indira Gandhi is trailing from Raebareilly post-emergency, I then saw democracy with my own eyes," he says.
Yadav also talks about his childhood and family and reveals why his father named him Salim after his grandfather was murdered by a Muslim mob.

He is true to his name SALIM & is suffering from HINDUPHOBIA. He is the same person who is very against Ram Mandir & wants just Hindus to believe in SARV DHARM SAMBHAV which we Hindus do beleive but he want say that beleivers of so called religion too should believe in that.Reg his comment on RSS he should know that it is a social organisation not a political & it never forbade its member from joining independence movement & even after independence it has remained apolotical.Hinduism has been reformers & as such he should at least speak about reforms in the religion that has named him Salim.

I am not sure whether there are too many public commentators in India today who can present such a crystal clear discussion on the general nature of Indian political history. His description of the two principal strands of Indian political thought - Swaraj and Samata - and how they must be brought together, can be understood and appreciated even by a layman who is ignorant of political jargon. A truly learning session this was.
Regarding the Deep Sidhu episode, it is not entirely impossible that pro-Government forces had helped to inject elements into the Farmers' Movement so that it could be vilified. Authorities in all places and in all times try to do such dirty tricks like propping up extremist elements within peoples' movements in order to jeopardize them from inside.

He was good as a neutral Psephologist.
He stated he is a politician, which comes to him naturally.
Couldn't understand his reference as RSS-BJP. During Manmohan Singh govt, an elected PM who is only accountable to the parliament, was reporting outside to the Congress president on policy matters. Please listen to Barua interview held 2 months back.
Yogendra Yadav doesn't seem like a politically neutral voice any more. I have followed his Swarajya channel, and given the persistent dislike and bitter taste with which he used to talk against govt policy, looked to be a biased personal vengeance.
Turning Personal Vengeance (read the Times of India reporting on raids at his family hospital) to settle score politically is not reflective of being a great talker.
Oratory doesn't come with language or clarity in your talk. It requires Grace to accept and acknowledge good policies of his disliked govt.
I lost him completely when on a TV channel he was emoting Congress should die. He can't wash it out with his explanations now.
He is hoping from Congress to JD to AAP...
His involvement into Kisan Morcha was clearly liked like he was bought and had a personal vendatta.
This was a very meek podcast

Barkha, the 2nd half of the interview seemed as if both of you let go the formal way of talking. One cant be a saint and run a country of mix of variety of ppl including some saints. I got emotional he said that he will support AAP if India alliance needs to be supported.
One cannot run a house of five with just high idiology.
Even lord Krishna had to use variety of unusual strategies to help Pandavas fight and win. Lord Krishna used strategies to keep the Pandavas united.
I know Aravind is a shrewd strategist with public interest as the priority. But who can deny that no he is the only one who can take on Narender by bringing in everyone together.
If AAP had not built and moved with execution of that part of the dream which held him public interest, the country would not have had an opposition like India Alliance today. The opposition make one mistake and you capitalize on it. The opposition will get aggavated and you further capitalize. Good thing is that focus of AAP continues to remain on public interest. While Narender's interest has always been superficial politics which wont last long. BJP lacks educated thinkers the way congress and AAP have. These thinkers keep the roots of the parties grounded " somehow". Thinkers like Yogendra will be a misfit in any party. They are better off being an expert commentator from outside. Such ppl play a very responsible and vital role in democracy by being a third empire.

To what extent is the common man on the street involved in Indian politics? Since the Manmohan Singh government took power, it seems that the BJP made politics a matter of involvement for the masses. The INC apparently is trying to involve the people of India in the same way with their politics. I don't know where the political process is going in India, when I listen to Mr Yadav. He is very opinionated and very precise, on his views of Indian politics. India, being the most populated nation in the world, how many people agree with his views? People think at different levels about their lives, and the political happenings in India, and make their opinions based on that. This has just occurred to me now, while typing out my comment. How is Indian politics helped or hindered by this? How do the opinions of Mr Yadav count in the wider perspective, in this situation?
Modi speaks about general aspects of life that people generally agree with. How many people want to know the minutae of policy decisions taken by governments? How does Mr Yadav see himself helping the people of India? He doesn't seem to be speaking in a manner that the people want to understand.

this guy has been talking from both sides of his mouth. On one side he says Congress must die but otherside he praise Cong. On one side he says he is for idelogy and otherside he says pragmatism. He is not sure what he really stands for! From this interview, he comes off as person who is very weak; he keep blaming himself on many occaisons. Lastly, he has been pronouncing doom day since 2014. He is the most over rated politician in India now.

Yogendra Yadav is like Prithviraj Chauhan, he'll let his enemies live and eventually they'll consume him, he's without a shadow of doubt an Idiot of the first grade but nobody can question his integrity, I'll always respect a stupid idealistic person rather than an intelligent opportunist.

Yogendra does not understand what India's real problems are. It is economy. If India's wants to remove poverty, it needs huge economy that only capitalism can provide. Fraknly I think Modi is socialist by heart. I do not recall selling public businesses in Gujarat by Modi. I am looking for real capitalist as India's PM who get rid of most of the laws based on religion and caste and gives people property rights. That is when India' s poverty will be gone. Socialism creates free loaders and lazy people and undeserving people gets free stuff that g\hard workng people creates. Very discrimatory.

Great interview. Whatever Yogeshji wishes about, Tamilnadu already has it in abundance, thanks to our stalwarts like Anna, Periyar, MGR, Karunanidhi, and now Stalin. That is why, BJP finds it doubly difficult to push its fake Hinduvta ideology into Tamilnadu, which gets blunted at the very initial stage itself. There are of course shortcomings with the 2 dravidian parties but those are not hate related or dividing society.

@@nishadpatle3611 Udayanidhi Stalin never targeted Hindus. If that was the case, the entire Hindus in Tamilnadu would have raised their objection. He only targeted some so called sanadana hindus who were illegally exploiting hinduism for their benefit. DMK or ADMK has never been against true Hindus and it never will.

2 people who proudly flaunt their caste names 'dutt' and 'yadav' are speaking about socialism and stopping divisions. yadav-ji changed his name from Salim to his now name during Congress/Nehru's days when India was 'secular'! So many contradictions that border into hipocrisy!
the over appeasement of the 2nd largest Majority religion at the cost of rest just to garner votes has to stop!
