One night, as an MC prospect, I was working behind the bar and it got quiet. I was tired and bored, so I spontaneously smoked a gas-station cigar that I found in a drawer. I got it. Romeo i Julietta #3 is now my go-to. Best cigar I ever had was a bandless handmade bought off a guy who was rolling them on a street-side in Munich. Perfumed and mild!!
This is so true. We had a gunsmith in out community. He was a cover story in gunsmith international or some magazine with a similar name. He was always such a serious looking man. He always seemed isolated and a hermit, one of those guys who hated life and people. I was in the need for a gift for my son, and a friend suggested this guy. He lived on his farm about 15 miles from town. I drove out and knocked on his door. He comes to the door and seemed a little irritated. Told him what I needed and he told me he would come over to the shop in a minute. I has woke him from his nap. He come over and sold me the hand gun I wanted, then offered me a cigar. We sat in his lounge at the shop, had a smoke, and some of the best conversation I have ever had. He went in his gun vualt and brought me out a cigar to take with me, and I left with more respect for the man than I thought was possible. I still have remorse wishing I would of gotten to know him sooner. It wasn't but a year or so after he passed away. But I will never forget that first smoke.
I found this channel by accident and I know little to nothing about wrangling or even horses in general, but something about Dwayne's stories and how he speaks is very interesting and even relaxing. I really appreciate his values and the simple lessons in life that he's trying to teach the younger people like myself. I'm only 19 and tbh I haven't had a whole lotta life experience, but these videos really speak to me. Hope he decides to do more.
I'm a former Firefighter and I've found a similar brotherhood in a few areas.Bourbon, Guns, Boots, and Car Collecting. It seems to erase the BS of differences and y'all can just be human beings to each other. The Fire Dept was the same way. Guys from all different backgrounds learning to live and work together above what the outside world wanted to make you believe about that type of person. Thanks for the story, it brought back some great memories I've had over the years.
Duane, I recently lost an old cowboy friend from west Texas and you remind me so much of him. He smoked H. Upman's and we would drink whiskey out of old jelly jars. Time seems to get away from us and I enjoy hearing your stories (and reminders) that we all need to slow down and pay more attention to the important things. I am sure glad I found your channel and look forward to the next video. And I see others feel the same with your subscribers over 55k. 👍👍
never was close with my grandpa before he passed, and didnt grow up with a father. Life lessons like these is what more young men like me need to hear in this fast world.
I am born and grew up here in Singapore, fast-paced, bustling Asian city and I needed to relax. Stumbled upon your page. I used to smoke cigarettes for years and discovered cigars only about 5-6 years back. I have been to different parts of europe and asia but never been to the US. I've always wanted to. I grew up watching cowboy movies with my dad and maybe that is one of the reasons why I was attracted to hear what you have to say about the cigar. I love the messages you bring across, may you always be in good health and success in all your endeavors. BOTL!
"We don't care" is right. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. Brothers of the leaf, I would be proud to have that on a t shirt. Thank you and the Mrs n keep doing what you're doing.
True that brother, we are all united in the leaf in Christ's name! Sew that into a tapestry because that's the truth of it all, signed sealed delivered. Cigar lounge.
Pretty much - you can utilize anything to help you decompress and connect with the world. It just so happen people prefer and enjoy their tobacco (cigar/pipe even hookah) to help calm and give reflection and most definitely engage with others whereas something else probably would not have.
Tonight I’m having the rare occasion of getting to relax by a campfire and have a cigar alone. I knew exactly where to come for a good story and some perspective. Love your videos, Duane.
the comedian really screwed you guys up. Could've been safe and sound and the country in ship shape if he hadn't followed his Western masters like a sheep..
This is one of the things that my wife and I love the most about the cigar community. Hi class, low class, no class. White collar, blue collar, no collar. Black, white, Spanish. American, Canadian, Mexican. Catholic, Baptist, Jewish. Doctor, commercial pilot, auto mechanic… When you sit down at the lounge there is nothing but people who love cigars. They love to smoke them, they love to talk about them, they love to share them and as long as you feel the same then there are never any questions, just acceptance and camaraderie! Society could learn a lot from the cigar lounge, hell many churches could learn a lot from the cigar lounge as unfortunate as that may be.
Viewing this in June 2023, Puerto Rican American, Born in Brooklyn, NY, raised in Puerto Rico and then Bronx NY. Been serving in U.S. Navy for 24 years. I love you and don't even know you. I agree with everything you said and your story said it all. You never know who you are talking to, so treat everyone with kindness and hand them a cigar. We are all in this together. God bless you and please continue making videos. Your perspective is refreshing and has a way to calm the soul.
😃👍Danke für das Video. Ich bin von Deutschland nach Dänemark gereist. Abends rauchte ich eine zigarre und fühlte mich gleich zuhause. Brotherhood of the leaf.
I feel this same brotherhood feeling you just described when I am skating at the skatepark. we skaters talk to each other all the time, doesnt matter if its a stranger, a newcomer or if its a skater with a higher skill level. we are all equals.
Yep it can be anything that helps connect or just resonate with another person. Yep find that something that helps decompress and also that something so happens to assist in being in union with another human.
Man, the grown ups table analogy hits like a truck. I mean it's so simple and profound at the same time. I wish I could come up with something that smart myself.
I don’t smoke at all, but I like the smell of cigars and I could just sit there and listen to just about any story you tell, Mr. Dwayne. Please, keep these going. Not only is it so peaceful to hear you talk during these convoluted times, you also have plenty of wise things to say that some of us young guys (and not so young, as my case) could learn. Cheers from Spain!
Over cigars we are all equals. Cigars break down barriers, set differences aside and make us more tempered. I truly believe all important matters should be settled over cigars.
Romeo Julieta is a good cigar. I also like CAO brand. Padilla makes some nice ones too. Thanks for the videos. I am glad I found you. I too wear a cowboy hat and boots. They are just plain comfy and kinda my trademark. I been wearing them for years now. I also play guitar and have made a little money playing n the stage. Now, I play simply to enjoy it often with fellow players. OLD county music mostly. I also know a couple bluegrass players who join us at times. I am in upstate NY but, if I had my druthers, I would be in Texas. Being almost 67 now, that prolly won't ever happen. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
Loving this content brother. One of the very best parts of cigars is how they're "the great equalizer", they bring people together and inspire deep thought. There's no better time to make new friends and no better time to instill strength in old friendships than while smoking cigars.
Glad to have found you here, Matt. Dwayne is the single person who got me into cigars (properly), and it was by accident. His most popular video is what I stumbled across, and then I went down the rabbit hole. “Why I smoke cigars” is what did it. And before long, I found your channel. When you connect these channels together…that’s the resource that changes the lives of people who already have a lot of life together…but still need a nudge. It’s been a great journey.
Some of the best experiences of my life revolved around smoking cigars with lifelong friends and new acquaintances. I started smoking cigars at 18 years old and turned many of my friends onto them. Now I get to enjoy them with my son, who’s 22, and his friends. You’ve hit it right on the head, it’s a brotherhood.
"What I got was...this is right." Just smoked my 1st cigar last week and that describes it perfectly. I don't have a refined palate either and can't taste subtle hues this and wafts of that but....this is right.
As a new member of “The Brotherhood of The Leaf” I really enjoyed your video Duane! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, they resonate with many of us!!
Hey man, you're right about our country being torn apart, and I appreciate your message here. I started watching your channel because my wife wants to ride horses for our honeymoon and, to be honest, I am a little afraid of horses. I figured I'd watch you and learn about the animals and people who love them. I've learned a lot and feel pretty good about the coming experience now, so thanks. I also have made a personal pledge to reach out to my fellow Americans, because we all are a tribe here in America, a bickering tribe, but a tribe nonetheless, and try to express my humble love for all of the people I live here with. Regardless of their political leanings. I will love them all as best I can. A brotherhood indeed.
Great story and talk. I'm a farmer and smoke cigars too. People always think they know what's best for everyone else and don't even take care of their own self or their own business. I pay no mind to them. I love my Cigars, they relax me after a hard days work. My wife actually smokes them with me. She never thought she'd enjoy such a thing, but I told her to just do what she wants and she did. Now we enjoy them together on our deck while watching the sun set over Magazine Mountain. Men need to be men, and women need to be women, but I don't reckon a cigar cares who smokes it. I've got a few men around me that do what they want and sit down for a smoke with me. But then there are others who have to ask their wives first.....most of them miss out and never get to experience the brotherhood of the leaf!
I've listened to most of your videos and just ran across this one. It reminded me of a time in my life when I ended up in northern Idaho, trying to shake off a bad marital breakup. After some time up there I was invited to an 'invitation only' gathering of men that met on Wednesday evenings. It was called 'The Roost' and was held on the upper floor of an old barn, an old hay loft that had been converted into a man cave, sporting a circle of couches, chairs, and a wood stove for heat when needed. I nervously walked up the narrow stairs to the loft and was met by around a dozen guys, all of whom were Jesus followers, sweet-smelling cigars, and good whiskey. Even though I was a pipe smoker, I was welcome. The Roost was to become the epitome of a real men's group where deep issues of life were discussed, cigars and pipes (at least one pipe) were smoked, and good whiskey was sipped. It was wonderful and I often wish there was one on the island where I live. By the way, the reason the group was invitation only and somewhat secretive was that a number of the attendees were on a church staff. People in their churches just wouldn't understand...
Dewayne if I ever get to hit the road and see more of this country one day it would a dream to have a smoke with you and a cup of coffee from the fire kettle.
this hit me ina spot i never knew i had. my first duty station in the military i got deep into cigar collecting and it allowed me to create even better bonds with the guys i served with. makes me miss those close friends on a deeper level than i ever thought. its something so simple but it allows you to just "smoke and joke" as we say in the military, but it becomes a very melancholy, but happy memory of times shared with people just being human beings in the moment
My dad was an engineer for the Santa Fe railroad. I was the youngest. We went on trips on the railroad because it was free. When I smell a cigar or pipe I remember the railroad stations. It brings back many memories.
Greetings from Kharkiv, Ukraine 🇺🇦 Well, this story is beautiful. The stories actually. I had similar experience with wine 🍷 - sometimes, you can find people that share the same passion and right away you have something common to discuss. Although it’s something different and important around cigars. The whole experience is calming. I do agree that if it’s anything that ties us together, it should be cherished. Cigars are so good when viewed from this angle. Thank you mr. 🤠
This dude hit it right on the money. Having this one commonality allows us to know a little bit about the guy across the table from you. I was in Greece on a trip a few tears back and bought a partagas at a little cigar shop in a small town. I was getting ready to light up and saw a group of guys sitting on the waterfront. When they saw my cigar they beckoned me over. It was just a random group of traveller's. Some on cruises, some locals, some from adjacent countries. We sat together in fellowship. Most spoke English. After an hour of cigars and adult beverages we were like any other group of cigar guys. Talked a little bit about cigars, sports, wives. The usual stuff.Like the guys this cowboy described. My home cigar club the Cigar Ambassadors has judges and it has janitors. It has senators, and it has street sweepers. But we all have one common thing together. And the fellowship we share has a value beyond measure. It's hard to describe but I'll wager every cigar guy or gal that reads this or watches the video above will be shaking their head in understanding before they finish this. Long Ashes my friends. Enjoy every second of it, the best hour of the day. When we share some time together and shake off the days problems. No matter any where you are. We all get it! Kevin
This was the most wholesome video I‘ve seen in a long while. Its just one sincere down to earth person talking from the heart. We are missing exactly that nowadays. Keep doing what you’re doing. Thank you sir !

I'm no cowboy, I ride a steel horse, but it's good to see real men still exist, we are getting few and far between, I am a combat vet and a member of the brotherhood of the leaf, you seem like the type of guy that I would enjoy sitting down and having a beer and a good stogie with. I enjoy your vids, thanks.
Love this. I'm not a smoker, but I love this. Even if I don't smoke, there is a remarkable thing about pipe and cigar smokers. They are thinkers and tend to be brothers. George Bruno introduced me to the concept. I just found this channel and I already love it. Thanks my friend. You're a real gentleman, and follow the gentleman's code.
Amen my brother. I was out fishing in my little boat. smoking my cigar. and went out deeper waters to see what they where catching. guys says. don’t know what your smoking. damn it smells good. Thank you. brother of the leaf.
I found this brotherhood during the pandemic during some long walks while I was unemployed. The community of BOTL/SOTL has been a part of my life since that first cigar. I’ve met some great people. Hope everyone has a good smoke today.
Best thing that worked for me was I was a bourbon and cigar guy in the Army. As a older E4 cpl I found the only other bourbon and cigar guy in my company. The commander. So after a rough day we would have a counseling session behind a building or our of view out in the field. Learned alot and laughed alot during those time.
Dwayne, this was great! What a wonderful recollection of the past. I could sit by a fire and listen to you tell your history with mama and the world for days. You are the best!
Good afternoon sir! Brother of the leaf (and briar). I enjoyed this video. I was raised in South Central Tennessee and now live for past 43 years in West Tennessee. I began career in public safety same as you at age 26 and back in those days worked alone even before attending the academy. Things have surely changed. I have friends who smoke cigars and pipes and it truly is a brotherhood of the leaf. I'm very familiar with your area in Tennessee. Great video and keep 'em coming.
This is what it's all about! Servicemen who know their purpose in this CRAZY world we live in. We can all meet each other in the lounge, and converse as equals, and that's what it's all about.
I work logistics in the aviation industry. At the local lounge I frequently rub shoulders with doctors, real estate magnates, law enforcement, hunting and fishing guides.... You are absolutely right. They are an equalizer.

This is the second time I've watched this video, and I got even more out of it this time. From one Brother of the Leaf to another, thanks for the content.
Back in 2005 I was living for awhile in Puerta Vallarta Mexico. While there I came across this tobacco shop where they rolled there own cigars, I watched this old man sitting in the sun rolling cigars. After a bit I bought a couple of cigars and then left. The next day in the afternoon I went down to a beach, there was a vender there selling cerveza, I got one, borrowed a chair and sat near the shore and smoked that cigar, an hour or so later I went back to the vender to get another beer, he said to me "senor, you know how to smoke a cigar". I was 55 years old and that made me feel like a real grown up for the first time in my life. Brotherhood of the leaf, peace and love
I'd be honoured to sit down by the campfire and join this man for a cigar. Just talking about philosophy, the world, family, adversity-everything. He's like a mentor and a friend rolled into one. Thank you, Dewayne. Hope our paths cross one day 🙏🏽🔥💪🏽
This is an incredible channel. been binging your content at work I’m 32 trim carpenter here in cali and this content resonates with me brother. love cigars and love a pipe keep up the content !
Thank you for sharing this video. I am a grad student and nearly every interaction I have with my contemporaries is fraught with political disagreements; it often seems that there is no outlet which can bring people together. While I've never smoked cigars, I can see a similar bonding when it comes to firearms. I've taken family and friends, on both sides of the political spectrum, out shooting and it has turned into an activity where we can stay out for the day, camp, and have fun shooting. This causes us to slow down and share a common bond with each other, making us realize that we aren't so different after all and facilitating unlikely friendships. I really appreciate hearing your experiences and look forward to watching your other videos.
I absolutely love listening, learning and watching all your fascinating life lessons ! I was a bit sad when you said “ you just don’t care “ …. That’s the world we live in right now . 😒
I enjoy all your videos, they are refreshing. Wish I could still smoke cigars, medically I cannot. I am glad you have a fellowship of people that breaks the boundaries, it's a much needed thing these days. It saddens me that what you say about churches is too often true and I'm sure people will get all triggered over it. I will say though there are fellowships of Christians across churches, across the map, across the internet, that identify by common values, behavior, faith and form a brotherhood as well. I would like to ask those who would be triggered about telling some truths about some churches, don't be triggered, don't be blinded to truth, don't attack people who point out what's plain to see. Find your fellowship, your brotherhood that cuts boundaries. Speak truth, but don't try to force people who won't see it to change. They will not until they choose to look. Thank you Duane for your integrity, honesty and ability to speak plainly.
Have you heard the one about the Aerospace Engineer, the car mechanic, the retired judge, and a I.T. worker. They all sat down cut their sticks, put a flame on them and have a great two hour conversation. I'm the I.T. worker and the other three Men have become great friends and we get together about every two weeks. Cigars bring people together..which is great !!

Dare I say "men" like Dewayne are a dying breed, OfCourse kudos to his lady behind the camera. Amen to the "Brotherhood of the Leaf"
Agree totally…retired Firefighter myself.
This guy is cut from a different cloth. A real stand-up guy. Love listening to his stories.
BOTL!
Amen, brother.
That place is so peaceful.
I am not a smoker but I do love you Philosophy in life. It definitely can be applied across everything you do.
Pretty much - you can utilize anything to help you decompress and connect with the world. It just so happen people prefer and enjoy their tobacco (cigar/pipe even hookah) to help calm and give reflection and most definitely engage with others whereas something else probably would not have.
Only 5 minutes in and I’m stifling laughter out of amazement
Tonight I’m having the rare occasion of getting to relax by a campfire and have a cigar alone. I knew exactly where to come for a good story and some perspective. Love your videos, Duane.
Man, this video brought a tear to my eye. God bless you, sir. Greetings from Ukraine.
I hope you are doing well my man. Stay safe
the comedian really screwed you guys up. Could've been safe and sound and the country in ship shape if he hadn't followed his Western masters like a sheep..
Speaking of brotherhoods the Marine Corps birthday is on the 10th. Semper Fi brothers and sisters! God bless you all.
Brother hood of the leaf and of the Briar is real for me. No truer word have crossed my ears in a long time.
What a man there isn’t many left like him today, god bless you sir
😃👍Danke für das Video.
Ich bin von Deutschland nach Dänemark gereist.
Abends rauchte ich eine zigarre und fühlte mich gleich zuhause.
Brotherhood of the leaf.
I feel this same brotherhood feeling you just described when I am skating at the skatepark. we skaters talk to each other all the time, doesnt matter if its a stranger, a newcomer or if its a skater with a higher skill level. we are all equals.
Yep it can be anything that helps connect or just resonate with another person. Yep find that something that helps decompress and also that something so happens to assist in being in union with another human.
brothers of the leaf are the most generous people I know.
Man, the grown ups table analogy hits like a truck. I mean it's so simple and profound at the same time. I wish I could come up with something that smart myself.
I have a similar first cigar experience. Thanks for sharing.
Brotherhood of the Leaf, love it!
Thank you from a Canadian Cigar smoker.
The spirit behind what you’re saying is what’s going to save us. Thank you for the message.
Over cigars we are all equals. Cigars break down barriers, set differences aside and make us more tempered. I truly believe all important matters should be settled over cigars.
Thanks Dewayne. As they say, "If I call you brother it is because you have earned my respect". You nailed it brother.
This man is what you call a sage
A old, wise man
Some of the best experiences of my life revolved around smoking cigars with lifelong friends and new acquaintances.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, they resonate with many of us!!
thank you for being out there, I appreciate you, even though our lives have not really much in common
Cigars... The "great equalizer". You never know who you may share a fine cigar with. Great story !!
Sounds like an old time preacher to me, my dad was one. I am now 79 years old and I wish I still had him to listen to today.
I hadn't smoked in years... But loved the Padron Maduro, what a great smoke.
Crazy how one experience of comfort and acknoeledgement if not basic belonging reverberates through the years.
Cheers to the leaf... I've had similar experiences with nice folks and truly have enjoyed those spontaneous moments. Thanks for the talk.
you have a gift to remember all these wonderful memories 🩶
Слава Україні Боже Благославии Україні Sending love to Ukraine from the United Kingdom
There's a cat in the background, relaxing like this man :)
Kevin
really been awesome listening to you and helpful for the moment atleast so thanks.
This was the most wholesome video I‘ve seen in a long while. Its just one sincere down to earth person talking from the heart. We are missing exactly that nowadays. Keep doing what you’re doing. Thank you sir !
This video meant a lot to me as a newbie to cigars and pipes
you always tell a good story that even this old dog can relate to. I smoke cigars and was a Lawman for 22 years. thank you for great stories you share.
Sir, I am a brown, Arab, African man who enjoys a good cigar, and good conversation. I wish could smoke year long, but it's Hardin Minnesota when it's winter time. Anyhow, I absolutely enjoy your videos, and it always makes me feel like I am in good company and wisdom. You are one of the few people that makes me feel that life is still good. So I want to simply thank you
Your younger brother in leaf.
Exactly how I feel about cigars . I go to my local lounge at least once a week and always get into conversations with all kinds of people .
Thanks for the story brother of the Leaf.
Amen, brother. Love your style.
This has 100% been my experience smoking pipes and cigars with other men. Good stuff.
"Not allowed at the grownups table." LOL Love it! Thank you Dwayne! 🤣
I appreciate this channel. Thank you sir for the uploads and quality content.
Keep the stories coming. I enjoyed this one a lot. Thank you Sir.
I found this brotherhood (pipe smoking) late in life at 72! Thank you for your insight and long live The Brotherhood of the Leaf!
Your not allowed to sit at the grown ups table....classic!! I love it.
Love the video Dewayne. Couldn't agree more!!
I do like this Law Enforcement story. I'm a patrol officer in the Pacific Northwest.
Duane ... love your philosophy on life. Love the 💕 horses and training, that’s what attracted me to your videos; but I came to look forward to the many subjects you speak too 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 thanks for the experience.
He is BRILLIANT> I love him, just discovered him...he brightens up this rainy day here in Somerset, UK!
Always a pleasure listening to this gentleman. Much love from jamaica 🇯🇲
I absolutely love listening, learning and watching all your fascinating life lessons ! I was a bit sad when you said “ you just don’t care “ …. That’s the world we live in right now . 😒
im 28, havent figured out what cigars were all about. Now I see Dwight. thank you.
