Yayy. Where did you hear this? I also seen that the CPU is big chillen like 80% inactive inactive in some tests and still dishing out high quality gameplay. All that untapped potential 🤤
Little note for something I figured out on my Steam Deck, even though on paper High quality Shaders suck up more power, well it actually helps performance. Two games I tested it with were Forza Horizon 5 and Street Fighter 6 on my Steam deck. With Shaders set to High, I can run FH5 with Medium preset and get a consistent 50-60 fps on it, with Shaders on Low, it performs terrible even on low settings. Same for SF6, I set Shaders on High and it runs a consistent 60 fps, with absolutely no hiccups, and you can set everything else to normal/high (except shadows), without issue.
Extremely good tip, was getting low 50 on lowest preset and turbo mode, now by turning off screen space reflections and ambient occlusion and putting the shaders on high, I'm getting locked 60 on medium high settings 720p at 18w
I ran the game on the steam deck, 720p, and I found a fair balance without compromising the graphical fidelity too much. I don’t have any low settings.
NRS have the right idea. Adaptive vertical resolution is a quick and reliable way to get a rock-solid frame rate. Otherwise you're cranking settings all the way down to compensate for frametime spikes.
tbh, when it comes to fighting games, I don't really care about the graphics but more about the input lag. I'm pretty sure the steam deck and other handheld consoles can run this game on low settings. What I care the most is that input lag
At 720p with the options set to low I didn't see any lag but I felt like there was a slight delay. Not sure if it was the USB hub I was using or my cheap TV.
rog ally is very disappointing, it is only 30 to 40% faster then the steam deck even at 25 watts, nowhere near the deceptive 2X performance ,and much worse then the steam deck at 10 watts
@@imaginalex5850 30 to 40% is a BIG difference, despite the 2x marketing BS Asus has given. Also, keep in mind the Ally is running these games at 1080p, which makes it even more difficult for the APU compared to the lower native resolution of the Deck.
Deff not running this game on steam deck on high settings lol. I have settings on low for 60 fps on my steam deck. Once I get my ally in. Steam deck will collect dust
etaprime has a video that when plugged in you can set it to manual mode and then max. not sure how much difference it would make, but its better than turbo mode. Note you cannot go to manual in handheld mode.
The Phawx talked about that by default when the Ally is plugged in it's is basically running with all the limits off on the CPU like it assumes you are using a XG Dock even though it's just USB C. He said he had to adjust it manually talks about it about 2:30 in on his video with all the benchmarks.
It plays fantastic in fights if you lock at 60, 15 W perforamnce, Resolution at 720 (scaling 3) -> looks beautiful and looks good. However, world tour is attrocious. Even if it looks like ass I still get into 30 fps sometimes.
Quick question, can you compare the input delay with the steam deck and the Ally? Just thinking that running a game native in windows is going to be better than steam OS, especially for a fighting game!
I’ve been using it for a few days now and haven’t got the sticky button issue on my unit. It might be a QA thing where some units have, others don’t. I’ll keep testing.
I’m sure 900p would be a great balance but I think only 720 and 1080 were selectable in this demo. Also, this video is purely to see whether 1080 gaming is feasible or not. 720p is really quite sufficient on a handheld for FGs
Please get a Steam Deck dude. I've had mine since July and have been able to play, Elden Ring, Dark Souls 1-3, Sekiro, GTA IV, GTA V, MGS V, Ace Combat 7, Witcher 3, The division 2, Aliens Fireteam Elite, Skyrim, Hades, FIFA 22, Madden 23, Hitman 1-3, Metro Exodus, MK 11, Wo Long, and Jedi Fallen Order. The Rog might be more powerful but the Steam Deck community is amazing, as well as Steam Support. 1000s of ways, ok maybe 100s of ways to customize your Steam Deck through the points shop. You can even change the start up screen when you turn it on. The Steam Deck has auto-resume and Track Pads. Do you want a less powerful device that has excellent software, and is established, or would you rather roll the dice on a more powerful device with plenty of unknowns. I think they're both great devices but I'd get the Steam Deck.
It really depends on what you want. If you're on a budget, get the Steam Deck with the 64gb version. If you got some money, the Rog Ally is a great buy. Both have their pros and cons, but if you are truly a gamer, go with the Ally; It has more features. But if you are a casual gamer, go with the Steam Deck. You can wait for the Z1 Rog Ally which comes out in Q3 of 2023 for 100 bucks cheaper than the Z1 Extreme.
You have the screen steering and game fps on different settings. If you put it on 30 with motion blur you can play almost maxed out. Fighting games look great still at 30 but the times you had it on 30 in game and 60 on screen that makes it slow mo,
You really believe that doing the external monitor test first would keep the system from throttling, just because its done first? After that i couldnt take the rest of the video serious...
IMHO, The RoG Ally is wrongly advertised as a 1080p handheld. The performance drop in 1080p is too big to be really interesting with the device's screen size. The performance gains related to playing 720 allows for better graphical fidelity. Empirically i prefer a 720p 60fp(or higher) mid/high settings than a 1080p 40/60 with low/mid especially with fighting games! It also allows to set the device at a lower TDP, Meaning some battery life preservation. As of now. The Steamdeck is BOSS in that aspect. Let's see how the Rog Ally does once the AMD optimized drivers for the Z1 extreme do their job(apparently they are not finished when it comes to low end TPD management and as of now only thrives in high tdp)
You’re right. They definitely tried to sell up the 1080p thing (they didn’t fool me though as I knew that the whole 1080p 120hz thing would basically be relegated to my Moonlight sessions). I’m just like you in that I would definitely rock 720p to get more frames and fidelity.
Very good point about drivers. This is still a day zero unit and I’m sure we can squeeze out better battery life and performance here and there. I wouldn’t describe it as wrong advertising tho. It’s 1080p. It just doesn’t handle it as comfortably as a desktop can.
In my opinion the best handheld gaming pc with be sometime like a CPU with i7 8700K performance and a GPU which is close to a gtx1060 or gtx 980TI 6GB VRAM at this price would be great .
You can use the usb-c port for many things. In this video I’m using a steam deck docking stand which expands the usb-c to hdmi and usb-A ports. That’s how the fight pad is connected.
@@wensonchang6077 Fighting Games are meant to run at a specific framerate (usually 60fps) to accommodate for punches and kicks. Every punch and kick have certain frames they move at to match 60fps.
