Hi Raphael! I’d like to thank you for sharing your honest opinion and experience. I just came back from an intro about T M. I was so interested about it, I had looked at some stuff before and thought I really wanted to learn the technique. The lady that gave the intro was lovely, put some videos, explained how this whole thing works, benefits of it, etc. At the end of the intro she said the prices of the curses... I felt shocked. Part of if was because I went there without checking how much was everything, but thinking “mmm can’t be more expensive than a yoga weekend”. It finished, she gave us a book and I came home to think about it. I was sad and disappointed to see that something (as you said really well in your video) is supposed to be so good everyone, so easy and so great cost over a 1300$... I’m so happy I found you, because you’re speaking out loud the words I had in my mind. I want to learn it, and without sounding arrogant, I have the luck that if I wanted to, I could pay the course.
But I decided not to. Not because I don’t believe it works, I believe it does, but because I don’t believe that something that simple and great should be only for rich people.
I’ve just discovered your channel, but I’d like to thank you in advance for everything I’m gonna learn from it.
Certain things shouldn’t be kept a secret if they’re for the greater good.
    Cheers!

I’m really sorry you had a bad experience. I paid $1,000 3 years ago and I meditate twice a day. Has it changed my life? Yes, Without A Question! It’s probably the greatest thing I took a course on. I rely on it like brushing my teeth; it’s that important for me. The prices went down. I don’t know where you went for $1,300. It’s on a sliding scale based on your income and if you don’t like it you get your money back. You will be dealing with trained experienced meditators. My instructor has 47 years of meditating experience. He answers my questions and keeps me on the correct trajectory. Go back and take the course. You will be happy you did.

If you have the money, that's the fee. If you had less money, the fee would be fit to your income level. Many, many people take the course for less and even for free (if they're destitute). Not having taken the real course, you may be missing more than you can imagine. And if you can pay for it, maybe it's worth exploring -- incase you're missing something.

@jing ri What is silly and sad is this sense of intitilment our generation has. Teachers also need to live yet we think we have the right to be taught free. Authors need to live yet we download their books for free. Musicians need to eat but yet they should share their passion for free. This is wrong on so many levels. Publishing companies are sinking, record companies are sinking and small independent schools are sinking. If authors don’t make money anymore they won’t write. Our society will soon be stuck with whatever that’s left that still sells. And that won’t be good.

I agree with what you are saying. I was about to take a course in TM and I was shocked to think you would have to pay a hefty price and that there was an organization and so much paperwork and steps...crazy.
I have been meditating for over 30 years and I always heard of TM but didn't know anything about it...I finally got curious.
When I talked with a teacher who is wonderful,I couldn't help but feel that he was pushing the idea that my meditation was nothing compared to TM.
Well after searching and watching many great videos like this I now know that I was already doing TM in my own way.
I'm not knocking TM...I just personally won't be a member of any organization or church.
    My salvation and answeres
are revealed deep within the silence of my connection with higher self.
    Great video..
Sometimes we dont trust our own inner compass and think something or someone elese has the answer...I found out the long way that all we need do is get very quite and still and listen intently ..the answeres will come either right then or when we let go and be about our life.
    Blessing to all.

It seems what separates TM from other forms of meditation is the same thing that is both its power and its hobble. That power being its exclusivity.
I realized some time ago that the purpose of all meditation is to bring oneself closer to one's true being: awareness. Whether it be walking meditation, mantra meditation, mindfulness, or listening to good music. All of it brings us closer to our true selves which expresses itself as happiness, joy, and peace.
I've decided not to go through with my TM training next week because the organizational setup is vibrationally incorrect. All power and peace comes within. The TM organization points to our power being an external force by creating an exclusive product. "This product is twice as powerful as other forms of meditation." "This product can only be learned directly from a certified TM teacher."
By cultivating the exclusive nature of TM, the TM organization gives its product real power because we as individuals buy into that exclusivity. And I'm not really faulting the TM organization for it either. Not only does every religion do it but so does pretty much every teacher of spirituality and meditation. "I will be able to teach you things in a manner that you won't get anywhere else."
Again, there's nothing wrong with this as long as both the teacher and student realize that every technique and teaching is just a permission slip to access the only power in the universe: the power within.
Moreso, the David Lynch Foundation which is practically synonymous with the Maharishi Foundation International. Both have fundamental flaws that parallel their packaging of exclusivity.
Both aim to spread peace and awareness throughout the world. The David Lynch Foundation in particularly has targeted children and inner city schools. On the surface these seems wonderful, but the vibrational reality the organization is looking where there isn't peace so they can implant peace. This isn't how peace works in an attraction-based universe.
A much more useful approach would be focus on the peace, joy, and prosperity within the organization and let the universe lead them where it might. I'm sure they have already done this to a degree.
Just as this needs to be the focus of the overall organization, the way Maharishi Foundation International conducts its education classes is also vibrationally incorrect. There is nothing wrong with paying for services that benefit oneself. In fact, we should pay for services that benefit ourselves. However, the way MFI sets up their classes is they pay their teachers a set wage and the individual pays the organization through a sliding scale.
There is no reward for the teacher to offering better or worse service. There is little room for the individual to decide what he or she needs or can afford at the present moment. By buying the primary product of MFI, they are support a philosophy that is fundamentally flawed. If freedom is what MFI and the David Lynch Foundation truly want, it should be reflected in their organizational structure and practices.
Also, the non-disclosure agreement is just another glaring example of how the organization is shooting itself in the foot while trying to promote freedom.
It is for this reason that I've decide not to follow through with my initiation this week. The power and freedom I feel inside does not resonate with this organization.
I absolutely believe that TM is a powerful tool for most people who take the course. But this power largely comes from the belief by the individual that it is powerful. When you've been living a life of limitation and sadness, this is a gift from heaven. At a point in one's growth, however, this gift from heaven has to be seen as only part of the truth just as have to at every step of spiritual along the path.
I'll add that there seems to be a drastic reduction in cost very recently. When I first looked into TM a couple years ago, it was $1,000+ like you mentioned. Now, in St Louis, it ranges from $420 to under $900. For me it would cost $550. Perhaps the persistent upset at its high cost and the dwindling interest in such a costly service led to the change.
Another thing that bothers me about TM is the insistence that it is non-religious. Um, bowing to a portrait of a dead guru and being required to bring in fruits, flowers, and a white handkerchief while the practitioner is chanting and singing IS religious. Period. There isn't necessarily anything wrong with this, but claiming you are a non-religious organization when clearly you are is a lie. Even the exclusive structure of the organization and dissemination reeks of a religious entity.
That said, I wouldn't necessarily try to dissuade anyone from taking a TM course. I would just say "take it. Learn from it. But know it isn't the end-all of spirituality and you will have to sign a non-disclosure agreement which may make teaching any forms of meditation a little bit trickier."

So basically it's the normal mantra based meditation but they trademarked it and branded it they're charging people a lot of money for it. Genius business practice I guess. But there's something so unsettling to make money like this out of what is supposed to be a spiritual practice to help people. If they genuinely wanted to help people they'd just teach it online for free or a small fee and be done with it. But it's obvious it's nothing spiritual for them. Only a business.

I am currently trying to decide whether to do TM in my local area. What you have said is eye opening. I do not want to be part of an organisation that sees itself as the holder of some secret truth. Interestingly, I picked up cultish vibes from my initial meeting with the teacher. I asked how the method differed from breath meditation but only got dismissive answers which I thought was strange considering this person had practiced for 40 years and secondly I was made to feel that it was inferior to TM. It left me feeling like the person was a sales person rather than having an interest in the spiritual. I'd like to be part of a meditation community, but it feels to me that TM has a conflict of interest between profit and honest enquiry. I may have to look elsewhere.

Thank you for this video, Raphael. I agree 100% that meditation should be taught for free. We all know how beneficial meditation is for our soul and for the whole planet. What I found uncomfortable is that I had to fill out a form that asked me about my education level, my mental health and health conditions, my medications, if I'd ever done hallucinogens in my life. All of those questions seemed irrelevant to learning meditation and none of their business. We were told not to take psychoactive prescribed medications within two weeks before trying the technique. I was in a meditation group before, claiming that it was not a religion, with tons of scientific-proven benefits. I was keen, but as i got higher level, i realized that it was not true. for example, they have "puja", offering imaginary flowers to the picture of the guru, contradicting what i believe.. I think it will be more fair if they are straightforward from the beginning that many forms of meditation using sankrits belong to certain religion.

As a volunteer in the movement in the 70's, I constantly argued with them about money issues-- and that was when it was only $350. I'm no copyright lawyer, but what if you didn't capitalize transcendental meditation? Or called it what Maharishi originally called it: transcendental deep meditation? I think others may be teaching a similar form as non-directive meditation. I think Chopra's Primordial Sound Meditation may be similiar and also Acem meditation from Norway.

I paid $45 to learn TM in 1976 many years ago.
I still perform it and is consistent with Herb Benson’s relaxation response which obviously reduces stress with health benefits.
It is too bad it became so expensive to learn by a certified teacher now.

    Trademarking Meditation is a scam.

Great video. Let’s not skirt around the point. It just doesn’t make sense and is contradictory. If they wanted to help people, more than the few they give the technique to for free, then they would. If they knew that there were WAY more people with trauma, PTSD etc, then why would they cherry-pick a select few to grant their program free. The David lynch foundation, is a foundation. How many people donate to “foundations”? Many. They would make more if they lowered it to $20 and that many more, far more than 100 people for every $20 to make up that $2000. It’s about the novelty and image and scarcity they want to portray. That said, there’s always mantra meditation…

Are you familiar with NSR meditation? I was curious how close to TM it might be.

I am not unfortunately. I do propose an alternative that is vibrational meditation. Maybe this could be good for you to try, its free and on this channel :)

Love the message to concentrate on the positive. The best things in life are free...someone said. But not David lynch ❤️🌻
