  • During Round 1 at Road to the Horse 2019, Wade Black used the Training Trifecta to bring a scientific approach to horsemanship.
Wade Black explains his teaching method: "Are you forcing the body, or influencing the soul? To me, the soul is made up of the mind, the will and the emotions, and this is the inner part of the horse. Focusing on these three areas is what I call the training trifecta: temperament, foundation, and task completion. The temperament correlates with emotion, which is primarily based on fear or confidence. The mind correlates with the foundation, which is focused on teaching and having the horse understand how to move its body through the maneuvers of a reined cow horse foundation. The task completion component is tied to the horse’s will, where he knows his job and I can give the horse his head and allow him to do it."
