Miku's "magic time" is actually in the MIDDLE of their concerts. They don't open this way, they actually take a break in the middle to interact with the crowd.
Magic spell time is what other "more traditional" bands would call "a break" in the middle of the show.
Miku Kobato "Small pigeon" (Literal translation of her last name) just cannot resist keeping the show going 😁
By the way, Miku writes most of the lyrics for Band-Maid songs.
The "magic spell" derives from Japanese maid cafes. The phrase "moi moi kun" is invoked to make the food 'delicious'. The band uses the break to give the vocalist (Saiki) a bit of a rest mid-set. What I'm trying to figure out is how Miku (backing vocals and lead on a few songs) actually has a voice left herself afterwards. She was particularly animated and fierce at the Chicago show.

You now know that this is not a normal band, for many reasons. Have you ever seen a band do such things on stage. We just love then to bits. This is in the middle of the show. Then you get the music.

Omaginai Time (aka Magic Spell Time) is always one of the high points of the show, and usually takes place about halfway through the set. They usually have about three MC breaks per show, with Omaginai Time being the second and longest one. Miku is the band's founder and the public face of the band. Although she is a backup as both a guitarist and vocalist, she is the biggest and brightest personality, and she is absolutely infectious!
Also, as you noted, they really play up the Maid theme throughout the show, and even in discourse surrounding the show. For example, they play up the servant theme by calling their fans Masters & Princesses, and they refer to their concerts as "servings."
Kanami is the lead guitarist. "Shut up, Kanami is speaking" is a sort of a joke about not interrupting her guitar solos, because she makes her guitar speak!
Gotta recommend that you also enjoy the MV's for both of these songs, which are both superb.
Good insights into the band. One of their many pluses is dedication to the song. They never overplay any parts. One common desire is for longer guitar solos from Kanami, while recognizing that what she does play is just right. It seems that faster paced songs are to your liking. Band Maid has you covered. Try Blooming, or Rinne, or Black Hole. But, like any group of skilled musicians, they also do slower tempo songs. A real delight are their acoustic versions of some of their regular electric songs. They can sound like a different song.
Miku's Magic Spell Time is always in the middle of the show. If you want a ball of energy throughout your show just call Miku. DIFFERENT was specifically written for the opening of the anime Log Horizon. Awesome is as Awesome does. Peace. 753

Nice react. You should check out the MVs for both songs, especially Different (even if you don’t react to them). This is one of the rare times the studio tracks are better in terms of hearing Kanami’s guitar and it makes all the difference.
the first time i heard the song and read the lyrics it fit so hard to my way of depression and struggleing with it , coming back out , losing your way in the labyrinth and falling back in....then ilearned its an anime opening XD still love the song and absolutely adore BM...listened to all their stuff and cannot get enough. hard rock in the heart with so many diff influences and the musicianship is top ...what is there not to like for real?

Miku is a phenomenal lyricist. Borderline genius if you look at how she incorporates lyrics into some of Kanami's crazy compositions!
If you can, check out their live version of "Manners" and "Blackhole". 2 songs on opposite sides of the spectrum back to back. .... And they do dreamy rock ballads as well that can take your mind to another place. "Daydreaming", "Rinne" and "About Us"...
Basically, they have not a single bad song in their immense 150 song catalogue!
We are going to be all over these songs. We just had a first group of recording yesterday and Thursday we are doing some more BandMaid!!!!
The routine is flexible , varies a bit from show to show ... I was not prepared for how much fun it was ..
Omajinai Time is not the beginning of the show but in the middle of the show. It's coupled with an instrumental and a Miku led song. The purpose originally was to give Saiki a break to rest her voice mid set ( they typically do 24 song shows, almost 3hrs on stage). They do other cute MC stuff during the show to give the other band members a breather.
BAND-MAID is basically a bunch of jazz musicians playing rock. Remember, Santana isn't the only guitar idol of Kanami; she has stated she is also heavily influenced by Larry Carlton. Frankly, I'd love to hear Kanami cover Carlton's, "Room 335."
I enjoy your discussion. They're definitely punk influenced - more that metal - but they've taken it in their own direction. Check out No God Official Live Video. Once you're satisfied that they can play, then listen to some of their studio MVs. The mix in the MVs is understandably better. Especially Kanami's guitar. It's further forward in the studio mixes. I think you would like Blooming and their latest MV, From Now On.
90’s/00’s Pop punk, not old 70’s punk. And then they add a layer of virtuosity on top that creates something really special and unique.

Band-Maid is a great band! Word is that they will be back in the US in May and August. They will be at a couple of festivals. No word yet on whether there will be solo concerts.
Hey guys, this was part of. Live streaming concert that played during the covid embargo. The only people in the place was the band and the camera crew. Yet, the ladies ready killed it...the only feedback they had was a few screens showing the chat room comments from the fans from over 60 odd countries who signed up fir the show....myself I was watching the live stream at 4:00am in Canada
There is so much to unpack when it comes to Band Maid, a good place to start is with this interview (ruclips.net/video/74FTyNSswqA/видео.html). The music explains itself, great musicians, great compositions and a kick ass mash up of the best rock around.
There is no official video for it, but if you want a good hard rocking grunge like 80's sounding song, do a quick search for "Band-Maid - Freezer" There SHOULD be two videos, one by P n D aka Panic and one by Random Music, which has the lyrics. And it is a banger of a song, and on the top 5 of 3 of my playlists.
MV for "Dice" and "Different" are much better. "Dice" is about taking chance in life, throw the dice and break out from a sheltered shell. The MV explains it much better. Saiki saying, "May I take your order" comes from her speaking as the essence of life, asking the person what do you want to do with your life and not so much as being a maid. But, the phrase very nicely pair with the band's image as well. This was an online concert during covid time. There were no life audience.

They usually open the show with a 5 song set then an intro MC time, 5 or so more songs, then this happens, then more 5 or so song set, then more MC, then the last 5 or so song set. All total around 2.5 hours long, i.e., the recent Tokyo show. Btw, the "Dice" and "Different" live was an online live (without live audience) during the C19 restrictions. I was at the Dallas and, here, the Houston gig and I think Misa had either a Lonestar or a local microbrew. In LA, she had a top shelf Ti-kill-ya. It was her B-day request. At the recent Tokyo gig, I think she had an Asahi or Sapporo from my vantage point. 🦍🍌

BAND-MAID is a five-member girls rock band. They are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. The members have not changed. They are a hard rock band and fans consider them one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually have 20 songs 2 hour gig. Formed in Japan in 2013, led by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Kobato has experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara, Tokyo, and came up with the idea of playing cool music in her maid outfit. That's why the band was named BAND-MAID. "Thrill" was the first music video of 2014, reaching 2 million views in 2 weeks, and they escaped disbandment and decided to become a hard rock band. Also, they perform LIVE overseas and increase the number of fans. Now they write, compose and arrange all their songs. 130 original songs. And 46 songs have been released on the official RUclips, all of which are killer songs.

This was Live streaming concert that played during the covid embargo. It was great, but I'm not quite sold on the mix. Some of the technical detail seems to get a little muted out... and they really do come alive in front of a crowd.
These are the very few I actually like the MV better than live. Still love them though!

Her last name, Kobato, means Little Pigeon. The PO is short for Kuruppo, is Japanese for Coo. This is Omajinai Time and Miku's song, aka Saiki's bathroom Break.
Her name is KOBATO MIKU. KOBATO means small pigeon, or baby pigeon. MIKU claims to be a small pigeon. Japanese pigeons say, “kuruppo.” Hence, KOBATO’s utterances all end with “‘po.”
DICE is an older song. The band began developing their current sound with DIFFERENT. You will also recent songs like NO GOD (official live), BLACK HOLE (official live), I STILL SEEK REVENGE (audio only), SENSE (official live and MV), FROM NOW ON (MV), and HATE (audio only).
Try also the older songs MORATORIUM and ALONE (you might have to look elsewhere for a bootleg of the live performances)
"That girl has a lot of energy." Soooo true.. and plenty of magic. You can not go wrong paying attention to the lyrics, Miku is a very clever writer. The band is all about the "gap." The gap between their cute looks versus the hard and heavy compositions.. And the gap between their playful antics, versus how very serious they are playing these tight and intense songs. Also... they alternate between they heavy hitting music, and ELEGANCE. There is an inescapable, essential feminine thread that no men could create.
