    Great video, love it🤗
    I never understood, why simple mapping is not introduced and emphasized much earlier in the dive-educational system, considering that divers are told, that they can dive independent with a buddy, after being barely 5 hours underwater. My logbook is full with small maps of divesite-maps, when I dive it the first time.
    Yeah, I am still old fashioned and write logbook with the hand (since 2001).... so do my two ladies.
    Writing logbook after a day of diving at the bar having a beer or 5 together, going through the dives again together is so much more fun, than starring at little camera screens at n-million blurry picture of tails of fish or turtles, or empty space, when the photographer explains, that there was something 2 seconds before, but he/she can't remember....

      I absolutely agree with this - diving independently requires a good grasp of navigation and mapping skills, and it's something that we are gradually losing above water due to the ease of GPS, so all the more reason to focus hugely on it below water, much earlier in dive education. Good job on this video.

      I cant agree more as something that should be added in earlier, even as an overview to give a basic understanding.
      Haha yeah I am the same as we both still log all our dives.

      We have been working hard on new series and what we think would be good and helpful.
      As we get asked this question a lot by DMTs we thought let’s make video on it

      I agree. There are not enough of these instructional type videos out there. Tips like how to find the boat, how to control a group underwater, and how to read a current are invaluable for dive guides. Unfortunately these are skills we often have to learn “on the fly” from other instructors and guides

    How do translate kick circle back to a map for distance ?

    • @BlueHorizonDiving
      @BlueHorizonDiving  Год назад +2

      One kick cycle tends to be equivalent to one meter if conditions are good (no current). You can always work out how far one kick cycle for you is prior to mapping as well by counting kicks for a known distance. For example if you do 5 kick cycles over a known 10 meters, you will know that one of your kick cycles is 2 meters. For the average person, 1 kick cycle does tend to be 1 meter. Hope this helps!
