- What counts as a "seal" anyway? You know, it's really unclear.

Small oversight: If the creature in question has visible ears, no fur, darker skin and a fairly wide range of vocalizations, you may also be faced with Seal, a British musician in his late 50s. Otherwise good video!
you forgot scar on face
Man, when you got to the "misidentification" section, I thought for sure I was about to get put on blast for referring to fur seals as sea lions.
Super good video! Personally, I feel the term "sea lion" is a missed opportunity. "Sea bear" is more accurate, both in terms of genetics and appearance.
Oooh tier zoo
Bro can you PLEASE make a video about Giraffes?
Every terrestrial mammal should have a sea variant.
You're good for now, but don't let me catch you making seal mistakes again.
@@Riordo hello
I think they look like sea dogs. Maybe sea Dachsunds, at least in the snout!!
The production value and humor are off the charts. I didn't want to watch a 25 minute video about identifying seals but my friend made me. I'm glad he did.
saw it was 25 minutes long and was like "ok ill watch for like 2 minutes maybe" and now here i am 23 minutes deep..
Makes the best video of all time. Refuses to elaborate. Disappears.
Seal man of mystery.
(But imagine the same thing for otters!!!)
I come back every few months to see if another video is out.
Guy really just made one of the best videos on RUclips and then just left
how do you come out of absolutely nowhere with such quality content
IKR
10/10
Incredible animation, hilarious jokes and a lovely voice
Can't wait to see your channel grow
Thank you for the kind words! I worked forever on this, if I make another it'll be shorter hopefully.
I can tell. I will cheer you on on this endeavor, as well as recommend this to all my friends.
@@williamburwin Longer form content is great :D
@@williamburwin You could do a short one on the confusion about yams and sweet potatoes.
@@williamburwin Please make them at the length you you would like. This one was perfect with the little test at the end.. I've honestly learned something that sticks from your video
10/10 incredibly educational, want to see one on every species on the planet please.
Rebecca Watson plugged this as "an excellent nature video that is 1) hilarious 2) helpful and 3) encouraging you to tell other people they’re wrong about something." She told no lies! Thank you for the edutainment!
Holy crap, that was well made. Criminally underviewed.
I was lucky enough to see a Hawaiian Monk Seal on a black sand beach a couple of weeks ago! The characteristics I used to identify that it was a seal was the large warning sign that said do not bother the seals that like to lay on this black sand beach. But now I have other ways next time in Hawaii like by being in Hawaii! I'm back home in Kansas now so I can't wait to put this information to use.
My husband has ears, fur and makes burping sounds. I must be married to a seal
17:40 VERY ROUND!!
This is so well made, im shocked. Just found this video randomly and holy hell this is professional. Hilarious, Imformative and the editing is just so smart. flameo sir, flameo
The music and commentary when he explains misidentification is just so good. It’s like we just solved a 100 years mystery case and caught that guilty seal.
This is a masterpiece. Hope to see more
As a seal lover that doesn't know a lot about seals, this is amazing.
That was really funny AND educational!
Even if I forget nearly everything ten minutes from now, I can remember enough to forever annoy friends and family with the knowledge that Walruses are also technically seals.
That is some high quality stuff man. Informative, great visuals, balance of humour.
If I could learn everything in this format I would be so happy. Incredible blend of humor, scientific info, animations and production. Please make more!
I love true seals. They are naturally CHONKY
What a great blend of entertainment and education. I was at the end of 25 minutes before I even knew it.
I'm completely serious, the video is a contribution to humanity.
I was skeptical at first but the William Burwin guide to Identification of Pinnipedia of the norther and southern regions of earth really helped me during my class trip to the martian zoo!
bro makes one banger video and then disappears into the night
I feel so incredibly informed, can’t wait to see what random thing you teach us about next
Yknow what. I clicked this and saw 25 minutes and was kinda put off. But I saw all the positive comments and decided to see it through. And I’m glad I did. Animation, voice-over, general flow, how everything is explained; it’s all amazing. Great work!
21:44 If they're being chased by OCN team members, they're fur seals, or maybe a random coyote.
I love the seal rescue guys! I was so happy to see them in your video. But thank you for that education.
Can't wait when this channel is in the same level as TierZoo, absolutely marvelous Vid!
the production value of this video is astounding!
Wonderfully esoteric and wonderfully neat humor, subbed:)
Superb video! And obviously many hundred more hours of scripting and editing than most viewers have a clue. Perfect comedic timing, clear infographics, sharp wit and obvious encyclopedic knowledge. I was disappointed but not surprised that you have not posted more. It's like it's so much work and so perfect you're afraid you can't make a sequel. But if you did, this is the kind of content that ALL RUclips creators should be rewarded. Hopefully you've been snapped up by an edutainment content provider network. But if not, maybe form a patreon - you'd have followers.
My dad emailed me this video, saying it was funny. It did not disappoint!! Thank you!
This video was relentless in making sure you can identify a seal. No mercy.
As a lover of Seals, I always come back to this video every few months - it's fun, informative and funny. 100,000 views, great work!
Tom Scott sent me here and, as new member of the coastal populations, I am happy to learn this.
Changed my life! I can’t begin to explain how my self confidence has grown now that I have a firm grasp of seal identification.
I know it doesn’t pay the bills for me to say this, but I love this video and have watched it many times. Thanks for making it.
Thanks for covering "norppa". People are trying to help them to survive by amassing snow on ice to the known breeding areas, since winters are getting warmer.
Magisterial. Something this informative has no business being so funny. Likewise, something this funny has no business being so informative. Complete with surreptitious walruses and a toucan cameo. I doff my chapeau!
This is some of the most enjoyable content I've seen recently. Period. Three-times over!
Damn this is really good mate. Interesting, informative, fun but most importantly not extremely annoying/over the top which most of these videos fall prey to.
When I read the title and saw the length, I did not think the explanation would take that long. I ended up watching the entire video from start to finish. Thoroughly engaging and wanted more.
This is a VERY high quality video especially for someone with less than 4K subs.
A tour de force that combines great imagery, slick editing, and solid bantz. This is a rare video, and if there is a seal god, will get the millions of views it deserves.
I didn't expect to spend half an hour of my morning learning how to distinguish one marine creature from another. But it was interesting and the humor of the video really sealed the deal.
I want to learn everything from this creator! Great content and delivery!
I’ve watched this twice and both times I clicked on it I thought it was about Navy Seals. Learned something new either way
This is one of the best RUclips videos I’ve seen in years. The production quality is insane.
This was listed in The Hustle newsletter this morning. Great job! I create training videos for a living so I have an idea how long this must have taken. Great job!
This was extremely informative and entertaining at the same time. Bravo sir I will stalk you well.
I love the dry delivery of the whole video. Never change.
Please, please, please make more videos. I have been oh so patient. Your editing and humor is master class. With love, Chili.
Wow, saw this on reddit and assumed it was some multi million sub channel due to the sheer production quality. BUT ITS THIS GUYS ONLY VIDEO!? Kudos man.
Might want to play with the thumbnail. It looks very scientific and combined with the duration doesn't portray how entertaining and easy-to-watch the video is. Deserves way more views.
the thumbnail's changed like 3 times already since initial upload
Weddell seals and bearded seals make some pretty wild sounds underwater.
After watching your video yesterday I was excited to watch more content from your channel. But then I realized I’ve seen all the videos 😭
Really enjoyed this and I’m definitely looking forward to the next video you make! Excellent job presenting the information in a fun and entertaining way. Thought I would have to rewatch the video to remember everything you taught, but then I passed the quiz you had at the end so I actually did remember everything 😲😲
Best of luck to you as you grow your channel!
This is gonna be one of those channels that I forget about for 6 months until they come out with a certified hood classic from nowhere
i am now a certified seal'er and now i can seal the argument if i ever get questioned about my ability to indentify seals
this video has my seal of approval
Seriously one of the best videos I've ever seen. The animations, the voice-over, the attention to detail, and the humor is all perfect. You've done so much research and brought much-needed awareness and education about seals to many. Amazing work you've done here, the quality of this video really showcases how much work you've put into this. Subscribed and shared to help bring this video the attention it deserves :)
I used to live a few blocks from a pier that had a sea lion population. I could go out there an watch those guys for hours, truly endless entertainment
I never comment on things, but this is the epitome of what I want in a youtube video. Aesthetically gorgeous, musically amazing, educationally rich and informing, all while making me laugh my head off. Keep it up
Calling it now, 1 million subs within the next 365 days, from 1k right now, if content of this quality keeps coming out. 10/10
I just almost rewatched the video because I forgot how funny it was at the beginning (it was still amusing at the end, but by then, I genuinely cared more about the seals and the info, and wasn't paying attention to the chuckles). Amazing video!! I've recently been fed videos on IG about Baikal seals, and that is insanely fascinating. If you think you have to match the energy of this video, no worries. I bet the stuff that you think is an F minus is probably at least a B plus to everyone who loved this video, and an A plus to a huge subset of the fans. Hope you're doing well!
How does this only have 63,000 views?! This is the greatest video I've ever watched.
In French there is a clearer distinction between "True Seals" (Foques) and Otariidae (Otaries), although there is probably still confusion between sea lions ("lions de mer" or "otaries à jarre") and fur seals ("otaries à fourrure"). This is a great shame, as a speaker of Franglais, as it makes saying "what a nice foque" less likely to be correct.
Exceptional! Please keep making similar videos. I will now identify as the self designated most qualified person in any given area to identify bag shaped pinnipeds.
This may be the most specific video for my interests I've ever seen on RUclips
Honestly, if you are not a professor you should be. Before this video I never would have imagined watching a 25 minute presentation on pinnipeds (learned this word here as well).
This was so educational it made me learn something I didn’t know I wanted to know! Now I just have to surround myself with pinnipeds to utilize this new information! Great animation, humor, and music; I look forward to future videos.
I'd love to know what the music used is!
I'd have been very happy with a video experimental jazz mixed with old school nature newsreel style from the introduction. But the feast of educational content, clear explanation, humour and even an informative quiz.... Damn fine video sir! Damn fine!
BB come back!!
You're such a gem and
I'll remember for a while
😭
Tyty
I'm blown away by the quality of this video. Truly amazing.
Watched this whole thing ( not hard to do as it is supremely engaging), and now I don't want to learn anything in any other forma but this
When you make a video so awesome that you don't need to make another one, ever. Well done!
What? How aren't you trending, how doesn't this have 1 million plus views?! This is gold. Make more and you'll have a loyal following. Great work.
Wow, your graphic design skills are amazing! Hope to see more
Came here from the cheetah video. Leaving a comment for the algorithm cause this quality really came out of nowhere. Keep it up!
This video has earned a place in my "How to understand the animal kingdom better" list along with "How to pick up a duck".
Seals and sea lions must think people look as helpless trying to swim in the ocean as people think they look while trying to move on land.
I'm here watching the video again again. Hope he makes another video some time.
I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS VIDEO!
This was brilliant. Well done!
This was great! Keep it up man!
Loved every minute of this video
Super good video hope you make more!
What an amazing video. Definitely can’t wait for the next one!
Now this is quality content! I give this young and promising channel my official Mark of Approval™
Can’t wait to see your channel grow. This is extremely well done!
That's just a straight up top tier video. Subbed :)
This guy's got some great narrative style! Gj mate :D
Phenomenal presentation.
Can't wait to see more of this channel!
This was a lovely video, thank you! I'd love to see more like this
Man, I love this video. I come back and rewatch it every few months.
Production is awesome. Make more please!
Amazing video! I love the style and content. More people need to see this.
Criminally underviewed, keep up the awesome work!
Insanely good. Would love to see more from this channel!
