I have always wanted to go to the mummers parade. I'm 41 years old and I finally made it there. I was able to take my kids and they had such an amazing time. It was such a beautiful thing! Thanks for the tips!

You are doing the Lord's work for this misplaced Philly girl!!! WOW - the parade has come a long way in terms of costume and props since I began watching in the 70's but it's still about those great musicians!!! (Also, why did I never notice that it's basically one big drag queen parade.) HA! JK - anyway thanks for covering this... brought back memories and enjoying the new spin on things! I really loved your coverage - behind the scenes and the up close and personal look. Fantastic, Philly Captain!!!

Note to our Captain ~ remember how you said you try to avoid saying "Mummer's Day Parade"? Or words to that effect. Well, during yesterday's broadcast on WFMZ, the announcers said "Mummer's Day Parade" several times. Therefore, go ahead and use that term. With the Parade being designated as the USA's #1 the term is now quite apropos.

I watched the video and it struck me that a PA announcer appeared to say "Mummers Day Parade" @18:46 - this in front of the Union Hall (?) building.
Again, all the more reason to call it such. 😀

Instead of going out and party your ass off in Philly on New Years Eve, put that desire off for a few hours and lite it up New Years Day at this orgy of fun and consumption of strong spirits. Hit the parade, and then hit 2 Street, the mummers H.Q. after the parade.Stay till the wee hours. But do not expect to make work on the 2nd. This festival / event is insane fun. Nothing like it anywhere else in America. A true Philly original and only.

Judges checked out after the first 5 bands this year. Not just Ferko but Avalon, Greater Kensington and Polish American all ranked lower this year despite putting on better shows than last year. New ideas were punished. Maybe the SBA should replace some judges.
I felt horrible for Polish America. They are my OG squad and they made me a fan of string bands in the 80’s. If you see their show they had a prop door fall down. They were having problems with that elevator all day. It was such a cool idea they always sound good. They will have an incredible comeback next year . Greater Kensington was amazing. Ferko never sounded better. Avalon was so creative. South Philly and Quaker City are on another level. Can’t wait for next year

Judging this year was frankly an embarrassment. Not just for Ferko - Greater K, Polish American and Avalon all placed lower than 2022. Did they just check out after the first few bands?
