Yeah and Underwood hasn't been loading Gold Dots in any caliber because Speer will no longer sell them bullets, I bought some Underwood 135gr .40 for $13/20 box off Lucky Gunner but they're Noslers unfortunately.
I would feel far more comfortable with the .357 SIG over ANY loading in 9 Minimal as my self-defense round. Since the SIG round, and pistols chambered for it, don't sell well in my area I would have to rent a pistol and buy the ammo to get a feel for both before I invested in such a pistol-ammo combination. I would like to see a comparison test between the .38 Super, a round I AM familiar with, and the .357 SIG. Excellent video by the way!
@furmanmackey5479 The 357Sig is "the way" and the best way to get into 357Sig is to buy a new Glock 31 or 32 and buy a 40S&W drop in barrel and order all your 357Sig ammo on line. Both calibers use the same frame and magazines but obviously different barrels. The alternative would be used Sig P229 or P226's.
Great video! I was just about to order some 357 SIG defensive ammo to replace my aging Gold Dot. I suppose that I'll just flip a coin on which I should order.
@@davidtolbert6204 💪💯Heck yeah, definitely a nasty round and great performer. Thank you🫵!! Appreciate ya taking the time to check it out!! Plenty on the way my friend!!🍻
@@AzAirgunner. That 229 is producing some good velocities. It exceeded the advertised velocities for both loads. Pretty cool to see in a 3.9 inch barrel!!!
Another good test, AZ! While the Speer Gold Dot is the Gold Standard (just due to it's age) it's pretty clear there isn't a lot of difference between the two bullets. Shooters are likely to choose by availability and price since they are both so close in performance. An "insignificant difference" one could say! While some other hollow points may be close to these two in performance, you'll never go wrong with either brand! Cheers, jc

I found a 30 round box of the Gold Dots for $29.00. I've got a 4.7inch P320 to put them through. Looking for a 357 Sig barrel for my P239. Excellent work!
Just a thought, zero, double zero, no complaint, if you are willing to offset the catch block, why not flip the catch block, and make it the lead gel block for the second shot? Anyway, recent sunscriber, I gobble the 357 Sig tests like candy. I know results are a sample of one, but your P229 tests have convinced me to set up a 4" Shield in 357 Sig for easy woods carry, or easy carrying backup for something else. Thumbs up.
Just curious as to why you cock the gun and then proceed to rack the slide back to chamber the round? Great vids ! Looking to get a Gen 5 Glock in .357 Sig when they decide to produce one.
@@phxamigo Only reason is to take the extra tension off the slide and make it a lil easier and smoother to rack.. Figured I'm not in a situation and have the time lol. Thank you and appreciate ya taking the time to check em out!!🍻
The HST is a great bullet design, but I still like the gold dot better. It has been proving itself since 1991 as a very effective and reliable projectile for self defense use.
@ all I can say is that I have seen dozens of youtube videos testing the 124 gr +P gd in barrels from 3.1” to 5.2” through bare gel and clothing barriers, and I have never seen it fail to give excellent performance. I am not saying your experience is invalid, but all I have to go on is what many youtubers have posted showing excellent performance. I am subscribed to about 50 gun tube channels, so I have seen a very broad range of test setups using this ammo with a wide variety of pistols.
@Mbartel500 Sadly in my OIS 3 rounds of 124gr gold dot center mass and they all failed to stop the threat, no drugs, alcohol or anything except sheer will to "take out" and LEO, the perp ran about one block before he was tackled to the ground. It's more of a typical failure than the projectile.
@@nicholasroberts9618 I doubt the projectiles failed as advertised, but perhaps didn't meet your elevated expectations for a 9mm cartridge from a handgun.
