Highland Park Cask Strength #3, 64.1% - Whisky Wednesday

  • A combination of loads of European oak and heavily peated Highland Park distillate, Batch 3 is uniquely different from the previous batches of 'sweeter' high strength releases from the distillery.
The nose is rather luxurious with maple, pecan and those classic heather honey notes. But once it comes to taste, this whisky is an explosion of bigger, drier, more powerful HP stylings that I haven't really come across before, and that is quite fun!
Coming in at a huge 64.1% - it is a liquid that makes a statement, HP can still make great whisky, despite what many would say. A shame it's the only affordable bottle of that quality.

Always enjoy your reviews Phil. Bought batch 1 and 2 - will probably go for 3.

Thank you! That means alot. It is very different, that chicken broth\MSG note keeps me coming back.

Batch 2 was a great release from HP. A welcomed change.

Hi Phil, I was just tasting old HP 12s. I checked the Internet and found your review of the HP CS. Excellent and interesting video. I would like to try a dram. Cheers from Germany

Time is telling. Just hoping the price stays stable.

I haven’t tried this yet, but my friend recommends marrying three parts HP12 (43%) with two parts HPCS batch 3. Mix gently, let bottle sit for at least 3 days.

Would really like to hear your comparison and thoughts between the HP CS batch 2 and HP CS batch 3! i’m looking to get one soon, and based on what i’ve read and watch so far, i’d prefer the batch 3 over the 2 (because of the more pronounced smokey notes from the higher prop of Orkney peated whisky)

Issue is, the 3 seems to be generally more expensive than the 2 where I am😅 by around 20-30$

Interesting review. Only tried the Batch 2 which really impressed. Great value too just like Signatory Orkney. The rest seem to be very overpriced and not something that would tempt me to buy. Will we all see a price hike on these releases next year?

Hmmmmm, good question. I think these will hopefully stay the same price. Expect increases on anything above 18YO again.

I have batch 2 and enjoy it. I believe they use seasoned casks, where as batch 3 uses 1st fill casks. Sounds like batch 3 is a buy for me. Great review.

Hey Keith! Trying the two side-by-side is a very interesting result.

104$ plus tax in Arizona or shipped from HTFW for £50 no added costs…that’s a definite buy right there!!

Other than Adelphi and Elixir Parcel bottlings I have not bought a HP for 6-7 years plus. Will give this one a go.

Naturally deep golden color. Sounds a bit tricky to me.
It sounds like natural color..but is it really?

Think it crosses the threshold for legally binding. It'd be mad to add colour to a whisky that strong.

Enjoyed the review Phil. I've been considering pulling the trigger on a HP C/S for a while, and I know you gave this a slightly higher score, but would you recommend this one or Batch 2? Thanks for sharing 🥃🥃

If you can still get Batch 2 then I'd start there as it is a more classic HP. This release is much further away with its savory/saltier notes.

This has been the second review that is stated there is a salty note to this dram. He’s just went on sale in my area for $75 US versus $100 US before. I may take a gamble on it but again the salt note seems weird.

Shouldn't be that strange for HP to have a salty note.

It's got some heat, for sure. But with some water it is still a great whisky.
