Ladies & Gentlemen, it is my pleasure to introduce you today to the world's most polarizing, bizarre, and stinky fruit called DURIAN.
If you've ever been around it before, then you cannot forget the pungent aroma that you can smell from 50 feet away, and if you've ever tasted it, then that flavor sticks in your memory for eternity. But for all the lovers of this fruit, and believe me, there are MANY -- it's almost like a 'cult following' where people are extremely addicted to eating it.
Durian is only found in Southeast Asia, where it naturally grows, and MALAYSIA is known to be the birthplace of the fruit. In other words, the durian you will find in Malaysia is the best in the world.
Today, I met up with a wonderful Malaysian family in K.L. (whom I met 10 months ago in Seoul) and they took me out to their favorite durian 'warehouse' -- the mecca for durian eaters. To be honest, I enjoyed durian a lot more this time than my previous 6 or 7 times eating it!

You have to eat it fresh. When i was in Germany the durian was frozen and of course it tasted bad. I now live in Malaysia and many people love it after a couple times when they eat good fresh ones.

I first experienced durian as an ice cream in Malaysia. I had no idea what it was but my friend said it was awesome, so I figured "why not?" It was such a complex and satisfying flavor; really quite nice... but I walked around for about 5 minutes checking the bottom of my shoes because I was sure I had stepped in crap. No kidding, I was convinced either me or my friend had stepped in something. Finally, I sniffed my ice cream and started cracking up laughing. That was indeed some stinky ice cream!
My friend said, "Oh yeah, smells like crap but tastes like heaven!"
I was fed durian as an infant when I was born in the Philippines. The maid told me that I loved it lol!

Durian is like drugs .. Maybe you will hate it at first sight .. It needs time to love it .. Once you love it, you will be very addicted .. I'm sure I can eat 5 ones alone .. Unfortunately, it's not cheap .. :D

I've tried it a lot of times bcoz I'm a Malaysian, born here... In the early years of my childhood, i don't like to eat durian because i believe it smells bad. But now, I'm almost 18 and now i can eat it as long as i can.. Durian is like the best fruit I've ever had in my life so for tourists or foreigners, make sure don't leave Malaysia without trying 'durian' and of course, Malaysian cuisines

I absolutely love durian. They sell it at the local asian market. Although it's frozen I'm sure the fresh is another level. I describe the taste as a fine ripe cheese

Id love to try durian from Malaysia, im from the Philippines esp. People mostly from Luzon, (Northern Island) despise Durian. As for me and my family (i live in Mindanao (south), i Love eating it, i usually drink cold water afterwards due to the warming effect in my body. Others drink soda afterwards but has effects of raising blood pressure. Ill be writing in my checklist when i will be going to Mal or KL Soon.

I am from India and we don,t grow Durian there. When in Penang I ate Durian - astonishing fruit, Tastes like Jackfruit mixed with onion. My wife could not even touch eat.
When I told to my family about eating Durian , my nephew said -I really appriciate your daring to eat durian, as one of his friend could not speak almost for a few days after eating Durian, but I found nothing of that sort.
Here in the Philippines, there is a variety of fruit we call Marang which is like the cross between Durian and Jackfruit. It is also smelly and taste a bit like durian but the peal is similar to jackfruit.
That the original name is Tarap.. that native fruit originally came from Borneo Island.. what you see in philippine because they plant not native or original from philippine, must be someone bring the seed from borneo and plant it in philippine

I have eat durians before and I like the smell of it.
I don't see what the fuss is about. Durian comes from tall trees and is tasty and nutritious. Even orangutans have been eating it for millions of years. Thai durians, grown at 5º-15º north, are large, milder and have more flesh. Malaysian/Indonesian durians, grown within 5º of the equator, are smaller, with less flesh which is softer, creamier, with a more-intense flavour.

I have to agree with the eating order. you have to taste the lower class 1st, then the premium one.
I had experienced this, if you start with the Musang King first, then you try other... the later is like nothing... like very poor taste one. lol.
So eat the common one 1st, and premium or finest one the last. :D
