The “whip” you were playing with is called Bull Kelp. It grows in underwater “forests” but gets dislodged during storms and ends up on the beach.
What a great trip! Thanks for taking us along. ATA BOY😊
Bull kelp can grow to 90' in length. You can slice the "large bulb" and pickel it. It is DELUCIOUS!
Interesting 😊
The scientific name is Macrocistis gigantia.
"for reasons some of us will never understand"
Well, I think most of us can understand that a small group of people can ruin it for others. It's the so called RV and vanlife squatters who ignore the golden rule of moving on within a day or two and not setting up "camp" in places like this. The people who drag in heaps of crap, setup temporary structure, garbage and propane tanks all over the place are ruining spots like that for everyone else. It happens all over the place sadly so you can't really blame anyone state for instituting in overnight parking prohibitions. Just look at whats going on in a lot of the WA state rest stops and other public areas. No one wants that at their local state park or view point.
The Newport Belle is owned by my friend Randy Sanders and his wife Paige. They are the best and nicest people you would ever meet.
I'm 77 and I enjoy being able to travel with you! I never would have seen Oregon if it weren't for you. Thank you!
Eric, that "whip" sequence had my wife and me in tears...thanks for sharing that! Keep up the great videos! Been watching for years now.
It was great, wasn't it? 😅😅😅😂😂😂
I had to rewind and rewatch that part…a few times!
Your efforts to bring the content that you do … is greatly appreciated … and an occasional visit inside an antique shop would be just fine as well …
I didn’t participate in your guessing invitation but I actually was leaning towards everything would be OK …
Sorry but there was one point I laughed … you know what it concerns. …
Great content as always
Thanks for bringing us along …
Atta Boy, Eric😂😂 I think your videos are ALL amazing and interesting!! Your content is fresh and exciting... We never know what you'll bring us. Hey, I spided you in another video where someone caught you on the bridge at The World's Smallest Harbor. We like finding you in other videos..... Everyone loves Eric..😅. Take care Eric!!
Atta Boy!! LOVE the Oregon Coast! Haven't been able to visit it for a few years, so thanks for letting me visit via YT! Cute magnet!! The Devil's Punchbowl, when the tide is high, makes big whomping sounds.
From what I have SEEN people are the reason. A nice pristine site you could camp tonight will probably not be allowed a year from now. People dump their black tank anywhere they can, People throw their garbage bags out on the ground and drive away. People wander off into the bushes and take a dump leaving it on top of the ground with a clump of TP on top. And it causes authorities to close the site to overnight because the animals have ruined it for all the people who take care of their overnight stops.
Always enjoy the diversity of the Oregon coast, punch bowl was awesome, thanks for showing. Sept good month for the coast, much less traffic!
I’ll give ya an atta boy. Enjoy the Oregon coast. You were lucky to find that spot for the nite, most of the coast is locked up!
I am from Oregon and I have always been lulled to sleep by heavy rain or stormy ocean! And I guessed a "no knock"!! Great video Eric!
Dude, I’m loving the longer video!!! I know you always say people don’t tend to care for them, but I freaking love it!
Me too!!!
Attttta boyyy! Fun trip. Beautiful scenery. Wish there were more boon docking spots tho 🤙
PS- that was giant clumps of seaweed growing out in ocean
Hi Eric,
That’s awesome you’re in Lincoln city in the Oregon coast, we’re in Oregon coast in Florence Oregon thank you for sharing your great video, safe and healthy travels❤️
Looks like you're having an awesome time Eric! Good to see you so happy while you're showing us the sights. Always happy to see those kitties! ❤
Eric, keep having a great trip. Love seeing you smile and enjoying yourself. You always have such a positive attitude I wish more people had! Can’t wait to see what you show us next!
Atta Boy! As always Eric, thanks for all you do! I'm loving these video"s! Very nice to see you happy!
Thanks for showing us the Oregon coast, It's so beautiful!
Man everytime that I hear about Jax, I can,t hold back the tears,I miss him so much, he wasn't even my cat, rest in peace King Jax 😢😢😢😢
I love the Oregon coast. I guess, cause I lived in Oregon all my life. I lost a childhood friend, at devils punchbowl. His nephew and him, had been climbing on the rocks. His nephew slipped on the rocks, and started falling, so my best friend leaned forward, to catch him, and he slipped. They both toppled down into the ocean, and disappeared. My friend washed up on Lincoln City, where Spirit mountain casino is now, three weeks later. His nephew was never found. He was crab bait.😢 yeah every time I hear the name, Devils punch bowl, I remember Billy.
Atta Boy Eric!!! Congrats on still finding new and fun things on the 101!
We are on and enjoying the Oregon coast right now. Cannon Beach, Rockaway Beach, Manzanita, Nehalem etc etc. Headed to Florence area after that!!. What an awesome place.
Great video Eric, love that part of the Oregon coast. One thing though, I have to have some fresh Halibut fish and chips when I'm on the coast, just me Lol!!
Seaweed whip: "Bull kelp" or "Nereocystis luetkeana." Bull kelp is a common type of kelp found along the Pacific Northwest coast
Atta-boy! Made me giggle at the “sea burger”
That was a great video! Interesting, you seem happy and informative! Have great weekend
Attaboy! …. Excited you’re on our beautiful Oregon coast! Hello from CoosBay/North Bend area Eric!
Nobody can complain that you don't offer adventure in your videos. How many other YTers can say they walked almost the entire length of a river?
That a boy!!!! Let's goooo!!!! Alll new adventures!!!!!😊
We just did the Oregon coast south to north, loved Depoe Bay and Port Ord. Thanks for letting us see it again.
I would like to apologize for my absence of watching your videos. ❤ I'm getting back at it where I left off. Hopefully, I can catch up. Love your videos. Thank you for making them.
At a boy! Always ❤ your videos...😊
Your comment about starting over is kind of interesting, because that's sort of what you're doing on your property.
You're doing without a lot in order to make it work, and being off grid is a huge challenge...which you seem to be doing successfully.
Ironically if the grid ever goes down, which is so antiquated from overuse or some other catastrophic issue, we will all be starting from scratch. LOL!
I really enjoy from time to time you acknowledging Jax I miss him VERY much! He was one SPECIAL KITTY.
Opie kind of reminds me a little of Jax but they'll never be another...he was one-of-a-kind.
I think if you get Opie out more often like you did Jax he would adapt similarly!
Washington is a more beautiful and lush state, but Oregon has a more beautiful coastline.
Be well ❤
Atta Boy! Loving the coast! And that was a kelp bed you saw in Depoe Bay and a kelp whip at cove beach. I can’t believe you don’t know what kelp is. Seaweed!
How beautiful! Love the Oregon coast. Yes you made it through the night.
I miss my horses. I miss my riding and all my horse riding friends.
Atta Boy Eric! Thanks so much for this video. After enduring unprecedented high heat waves July and August in Northern Nevada, September is back in the 80s now, we definitely want to try Oregon next summer! We just don't tolerate even the dry heat well anymore, so that Oregon Coast is looking very inviting. Wonder if there are any Harvest Hosts out that way? At any rate, thanks so much. We did think you might get the knock on the door, but when we Google mapped the spot, it seems they captured an Airstream parked there! Cheers,
Thank you Eric for the video suggestions! I'm planning a coastal trip from Ca up the Oregon/WA coast! Got the RV ready to go!!
In Maine we have seafood places right by the wharf where you can get super fresh fish, shellfish, and lobster. Only Eric would go to a place like that and order yet another cheeseburger. The last time you boondocked in that parking lot with the turnaround loop, was there a giant KOA sign right next to it? I think that might have had something to do with it.
Eric never progressed past age 12 as pertains to food.
@freewill1114 Makes him my Hero!!! 🏅 My 18 yo grandson will 100% order a burger when I take him out. And yet, he can cook the most delicious filet mignon in a cast iron skillet that you ever tasted!! (Learned on youtube haha) He will cook that for his mom and dad and may still cook himself a burger. 🤷🏼♀️ I say eat what makes you happy!!! ✌🏻
You can’t beat fresh seafood off the coast of Maine!
@@shibalover54 well, it's one thing for your grandson to have primitive, pedantic, boring taste buds, that keeps him happy but it's another thing to advise people what burger tastes good at what restaurant when he eats every freakin, same type burger at every freakin restaurant and claims they all taste good. Kinda makes Nomadic Fanatic scenes where he shows you himself eating a burger, kinda pointless. At least there's more variety with the pizza.
Atta Boy!
We love your videos, we watch them all the time been with you from day 1.
You've grown , learned a matured before our eyes.
You're a great man and a very sweet person .
Love Tara and Opie.
We ( myself, husband and my therapy cat Dusty ) enjoy your time putting out these videos.
Be safe out there on the road Eric.
True friends here ..
In Pennsylvania.
Thanks for the new views. Meow meow Tara and Opie. Have fun Eric.
Great video Eric enjoyed all the commentary and scenic views. Thank you for sharing.😊😊😊
I’m not sure that Oregon has recovered from Jaczilla’s last visit….LOL Do miss that “savage” kitty. Have a safe one, Eric.
You are a Fantastic RUclipsr Eric!!!
Atta boy for taking us down the coast on 101! It’s been a long time since I have been on the west coast. I’m from the 805 Cali. Need to go back to see the west coast ❤
You have tapped in my dreams. One think I love about the southwest is the ability to daydream of how life was back in the 1700-1800’s & how life seamed less stressful & hectic. I would LOVE to go back in time but with the knowledge I have now.
@@WHEREVER-I-ROAMDeaths involving guns were far less common then than in most big cities now . People were a whole lot less likely to pull a gun on someone else knowing the possibility was extremely high they were "heeled" too.
What a fun trip, and great intro!! Thank you, Eric.
Atta Boy! you have videoed my dream vacation. I can no longer take these trips. The last time I was on 101 was in 1995. When I retired I thought this was going to be my dream vacation. Thank You for letting me see it again. I am from Yakima Valley, Washington and I made it as far as Eureka Calif.
This hurricane made me miss a whole week of you.... it's fun watching you travel to places I can only dream of. My cat didn't even notice the hurricane... tough cat.
Glad you're back doing what you love the most. Keep up the good work.
I absolutely love the Oregon Coast! Always stay at the Inn at the Spanish Head - Lincoln city !!!
Atta boy Eric, i believe that stuff out there floating was a kelp bed
You know, the whips we use to play with when we were kids
Edit...😆 i spoke too soon
.. you found a kelp whip on the beach!
We are so excited you are showing this. We will be doing this area in our rig this time next year. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
There is overnight boondocking camping in Newport down at the marina before you cross the bridge going south. I stay there a lot. I used to boondock like you in some of those pullouts, three years ago they started putting up the no camping signs. Hs really curtailed my travel experience. I still love the Newport marina street parking even though it is really noisy.
You ended up at a great overnight spot. You even had a wonderful hike down to the ocean beach, Be safe.
Atta Boy!! Eric. I guessed you got to stay the night!! Hooray!!
This was a great adventure. Loved every second. That Indiana Jones whip scene was so unintentionally funny, lol'd for real.
The coast hiway is just so beautiful and green. Glad you found a free.⁹⁹ place to camp. And your big ol' smile is great to see.
Take care, safe travels.
May Father God continue to bless you mightily. 🙏
Scratchies for the kitties.
Your tsunami escape route was about 1/4 mile to the north of you. Cape Perpetua Rd up about 3 miles and you’d be safe. Hope you enjoyed revisiting the coast. My wife and I have lived in Florence for almost 25 years now. We love it.
I hope I'm not giving my smartphone an inferiority complex. I tend to ignore it while driving. I'm too busy checking for incoming bogies.
Atta boy! Love this video and all the gorgeous views. Enjoy your travels south and hugs to you and the Kitties!
Thanks Eric, for visiting new locations along the coast Route 1 Oregon.
As an Oregonian I could flood you with all kinds of facts along hwy. 101 but I'll leave that up to all of the other Oregonians that view your channel.
But I do share the thought or dream of living in the eighteen-hundreds riding horses and living the land.
Growing up in the 60s and 70s Westerns were 80% of the shows on TV.
Edit: Attaboy for the new content.🇺🇸
I spent many a happy stay at Beverly Beach State Park. We walked down the beach from the park to the Punch
Bowl.
You can walk into the punch bowl at low tide. And our habit was to climb up to little cafe at the top and have a hot chocolate before walking down the beach to the state park.
If we had an onshore wind we would fly kites in both directions. Then build a beach fort and have a beach fire. Good times in the mid 60s.
Atta boy! Love the route. Keep up the good work.
Ada boy Eric enjoying highway 101 perfect weather
Oregon but not forgotten.
Atta a boy
Love the coast your on. Did some of it many years ago and always wanted to come back and stay a while.
Thats exactly what this world needs
Loved that short river 😂
I was thinking that they really have to let travelers sleep somewhere in vehicles or there will be more deadly crashes. A nice ‘cool’ trip and that was an awesome and big hike.
Ok here's the attaboy, not the one you want though. You absolutely killed me going to a restaurant with fresh caught seafood and ate a friggin cheeseburger. Ahhhhhh you kill me sometimes!! 😂
Beautiful scenery. The Pacific Northwest is one area I have never visited. I plan on going there someday
By the way, that stuff you saw in the water by the beach is probably the tops of seaweed, an important environment for sea life in the area. Sort of a forest in the ocean shallows. 🌳
My vote was that you would be able to stay overnight ....I don't know exactly why but I just thought that because you had such a good attitude and having fun all before in the video that it would just work out for you to stay the night. Anyway safe travels to you and the fuzzybutz and thanks for entertaining me thru out the years.
While you may now have the wanderlust, back in the 1800’s it was no picnic heading West. Only the hardest people would survive.
Atta boy! Thanks for showing us fun spots!
I love the ocean and rocks! Thank you so much for sharing! I've never been to Oregon. I've been to California and Washington State.
Great vid. I love the longer ones. Especially 41 minutes. Thx dude
cool new stuff to see!
More long videos like this please
lol, atta boy! i love driving the coast one of my favorite trips!
That a boy . Thank you for all you do to give us a chance to see places to go and eat. Look forward to the next one
Another good one Eric.
Atta boy Eric, all of your videos are interesting and produced professionally! I watch them all!
That’s a nice drive along the Oregon Coast!
I love this adventure you call life that your on !! enjoy every day my friend !
Safe travels to you Eric, almost to California 🌄
A fresh start sounds great
I love that this video was so long!!!! Thank you Eric!!! Love the new camera when you’re on the bike. Very cool footage.
Glad you made it through the night😊
At 34:18 I'm saying you don't get the knock, but what do I know. Oh yea, here's your atta boy for whatever you wanted it for at the beginning of the video. Keep the good stuff coming buddy. BTW are you going to Tampa in January?
Exterior propane tank.....FIRST NIGHT HERE😂😅‼️
Glad it worked, I didn't think it would.
Glad to see you happy and trying new road route
Thank you for taking us along this wonderful trip along the Pacific coast. I envy you. 😍
Hey Eric I agree with you 100% people do destroy the best places you have gone to with everything they do I loved the fact that you revisited every thing I also loved seeing Devil's cove
I was wondering what tsunami alarms you were referring to. Perhaps an alert that you get on your phone? Because if there are tsunami alarms in the cape perpetua area, I have never heard of them. Where you were parked, in an emergency if you could quickly head back the other way, north, and pull into the road that takes you to the top of cape perpetua, you would be safely out of the tsunami zone quite quickly. And then there are roads albeit rather primitive ones, that lead back into the Coast range going east away from the ocean. I'm not sure an RV like yours could make it through very far but at least if you had to get to a high spot in a matter of minutes that road might be the best option. It climbs quickly and there are restrooms up at the top. Obviously I'm thinking hypothetically because you are not going to be sitting in that area again during a tsunami emergency. Anyway, thank you for showing some spots here that most people don't show in their videos! And by the way locals Pronounce Tillicum as Tilllycum, I believe it is a native American word as many things here are named in relation to the earliest settlers. Yaquina is pronounced Yuh qwin' uh.
Gracies Sea Hag used to have a bartender play bottles in the bar! Gracie herself started the restaurant, and playing the bottles was quite the thing!
Atta Boy!! Great video. I've actually been to Newport and that area we stayed in Yachts.
Atta Boy Eric! It's been awhile since I've been to the southern Oregon Coast. To bad you couldn't go to the aquarium. It's a really good one.
My favorite Depot Bay restaurant is Gracie’s Sea Hag. Supposedly the best clam chowder on the west coast. It has a great 70s vibe inside.
Atta boy Eric! Thanks for always showing cool stuff and even new stuff. Lol
