This video brought me so much joy.I love the coastal views. It's hot in Co and I am so homesick for the coast.I also enjoy the vlog of your journey. I hope California is a better experience than Oregon was.❤
CA has problems with cartels and crime...police don't have time to bother you. I live in Oregon for over 25 yrs. Very strange laws and they hate out of state folks. Don't want to be like CA.
Same here... I'm in CO and miss Oregon a lot. Moved here 6.5 yrs ago. I miss the ocean, waterfalls, all the hiking with no deadly snakes, and all the greenery.
Scott, I am so sorry to hear what happened... and to one of the nicest people! I will stay away from Newport Beach. I had a great time in Ocean Shores last weekend. Sounds like I need to stay North.
So First off your videos are amazing. It’s like Bob Ross painting without the painting. It’s real! Thank you. As someone that has done vanlife for a gizillion years if that was your first knock and get out of here you are kicking ass. Oregon is so nice overall. It is a town by town situation. Scott, You just ran across some negative energy in an otherwise nice community. Newport may have expierenced some crime or nuisances from trash left behind by campers or down town visitors. It more than likely had nothing to do with you personally. Small town authority figures sometimes over react. No need to let this isolated incident spoil your static van day. Dismiss it from your thoughts and enjoy lunch a good cup of coffee and reset your perspective. Your appreciated and recognized for the good soul that you are. Love seeing you cook in your mobile dwelling. You motivate me to try new things.
I'm eating cherries right now as you are talking about them! Ha! The bag was huge that I bought so I pitted them, cut each one in half, and put oh...about 1/2 cup into little baggie. I put a little sugar in the bag and mixed it good and froze them. I was drinking a diet Dr. Pepper too so I poured the juice and threw some of the cherries into it as well. Oh sooo good!
So sorry that happened to you Scott. Glad to see that you moved on in your day and enjoyed some beautiful scenery to take try to take your mind off it. I don’t think you complain much at all. I find your little jokes quite cute and put a smile on my face. 😊 Keep being you, enjoying your various coffees, burritos with various flavors (and of course, your yellowbird)
Well Scott I'm so sorry that you were treated with such disdain. The scenery is outstanding but obviously the world is wacko right now. Everybody is suspect.❤
I’m so sorry that happened to you. It’s becoming more common. In my opinion, Texas is one of the worst but it’s happening everywhere. It’s my home state but I’ve had to stop van dwelling because more and more overnight places are being shut down or someone complains. I’m thinking now of moving abroad. I just can’t afford the super high rents. So sad. Hang in there and stay safe.
Oh that’s too bad. Not sure if you watched the whole video here. Haven’t had any issues since and Cape Perpetua is beyond amazing. It’s a place that I will be returning to often.
That seems unfair!! We have camped there at state parks for a long time…. I think it is their homeless issues and they are clamping down. I am so sorry, Scott!!
That is exactly what it is! Unfortunately we are over ran with homeless with mental health issue's and no one seemed to care. Recently they have started cracking down on "camping" on the city street's. There is multiple camp ground near newport he would have been just fine at.
It does seem unfair but you are only hearing Scott's point of view. He is mad and criticizing the whole town when if you think about how the residents of that neighborhood feel, you might see it differently. A lone male, in a van, sleeping on your street, near your house. How would YOU feel?
Hey Scott. So good to see you today and see the beautiful coast and the trail you took us on, and the yummy grub you made. Sorry for the trouble with the cop, it appears to have worked out great in that you found that wonderful windy area. Thanks for coming to us today, always love seeing you and learning new things from you. Happy, blessed travels Scott! 🚐 😄👍
Over the last several years I've noticed Oregon has gotten a lot less friendly..many places I've overnighted have no parking signs plastered everywhere. Thinking a lot of it is due to the economic conditions..more people overnighting and some staying too long.
Yeah, the OR coast has become more difficult for nomads, largely because of the increased numbers and some bad behavior by a few. For example, the casino in Lincoln City shut down their overnight camping because people would stay for months at a time. And the casino in Florence got more restrictive, requiring you to join their club thing. The less-than-welcoming attitude is one reason I've avoided the coast for a few years.
This is the 4th time I've watched this video because I absolutely have nothing else to do with my life & because I like you and your channel,, I'm your #1 Fan!
Sorry for your experience in Newport OR. Portlands dismal existence of homelessness has ruined it on the coastal communities. Hopefully tge rest of trip will be great.😊 Thanks for your videos.
Not just Ptown but every city and town. Out small town put in a huge homeless camp and the taxpayers are paying the 3000 monthly electric bill , garbage bills as well. Its next to the post office so now the Post office box lobby is closed at 5 pm, people who work late cant get their mail now because the homeless camp criminals broke in and pried open po boxes, pooped on the floor, used condoms, needles and trash in the lobby.
Two sides to every story, communities, their taxes payers and residents make areas what they are. Image means a lot, would you have liked the area(before the talk) if the area had people living up and down the streets? It's a balance between residents and visitors, who pays for the up-keep, maintenance and public services in these areas. Again it's about balance, please don't lose sight of the big picture. Be safe, safe travels, and I'm toasting your lifestyle with a good cup of coffee.
Would love to visit Oregon again my family drove through in the late 70’s. Beautiful. If I return I shall take you recommendation and STIRR clear of Newport !
Sorry you had a bad experience. Newport is a great town. They don’t realize you’re a good guy and not some homeless guy living in somebody’s neighborhood. Good luck on your travels. Have fun sending you positive energy.
It looks like we just crossed paths. I’ve noticed they are cracking down on nomads in OR just like in CA. I just spoke to a police officer in Manzanita who said it’s a $500 fine if you’re caught sleeping in your vehicle there.
@@StaticCamperVan Their reasoning is that’s it’s a new city ordinance and if you’re within city limits then they have the right. Even if you’re on state land. He suggested that I go to the next city over that does not have a police department. But that’s just between you and I.
@@StaticCamperVan If your in a van or car, Panama City Police will say that due to their ordinances, you lack proper sanitation facilities even though you've got running water & porta-potty. If your in an RV, they still run you off. I always stayed in motel parking lots backed into a parking space so they wouldn't see my rear plate.

Lived in Oregon for 24 years after leaving San Diego.... Over a decade of that time in Oregon was in beach towns in north and then south Oregon. Oregon was our last state of choice to live in and when things started getting weird (especially during the "covid" stuff) we realized our quality of life was not going to get better anytime soon. So my adult son and I sold and gave away almost everything, bought a used RV, moved in and bugged out to central Mexico. Still happily living, working and traveling from the RV exploring states in Mexico since Nov. 2022! Currently living in Oaxaca for a long stay....
*Unbelievable!* *You are a U.S. citizen, not involved in any crime YET you were told to leave, simply for BEING there!* *I would never visit there, because of that!* *Shame on them!!* *Safe travels, Friend.*

It looks like we will have to wait until September to go there. Anyway, I am hoping the rest of your drive went well. Take care Scott. 😊

I understand why people, neighbors, police, and city are concerned. It sucks but the truth is that if you look loke youre homeless in any way, youre going to get shoo’d. While you might not be so bad, theres no way to know that youre any less risk than any other homeless person. And it is definitely true that honeless people are high risk and costly
Why would they ask someone to leave when they are vacationing and not driving some beat up piece of junk, most towns don't ask anyone to leave unless they are disturbing the peace or have some trashed RV
@@Makeitright531People don’t usually “vacation” in neighborhoods. I respect Scott’s views on where to park but I also understand how some people might be paranoid or nervous etc

This is not a recommendation for Oregon but it is a problem on the Oregon coast. This is what I have observed. There was an interview with the mayor of Seaside and she was saying they are trying to find accomodations for their transient population. They have money to help but there is actually, according to her, no land to be bought to have ie. a short term parking are for people living in their cars and vans. I've noticed that along the coast between Brookings and Gold Beach, in the view pull outs, lots of RV parkers and given the look of their vehicles it seems they are having a problem even getting gas or moving along. I do notice that the Brookings police are pretty agressive. Sorry you had this experience but we live in times with a lot of homeless people trying to do the best that they can. These relatively small coastal towns are absorbing a big problem that comes to them from Eugene and Portland.
Fun stuff! Scott, I just saw a Kirsten Dirksen visit to a place way up near the CA/Oregon border. Self-sustaining community with rental accommodations for visitors. Their url is in the description of that video if you're interested. Oops, I see you're going to be moving along to that appointment ASAP!
Howdy! Watching some of your older adventures this morning! I love the scenery and the peacefulness it must bring to you each time you approach the ocean's thunder or the forest's gentle quiet. One day I hope to visit the west coast to experience some of nature's wonders out there too.😺
Glad you saw a beautiful part of Oregon. Stopped to camp @ Beverly State Park near Newport, Oregon. Had the joy of finding a tennis ball size glass ball. Enjoy your stay. Be safe.
Scott I'm sorry that happened to you. New Port is great as well as every little town on the coast. They probably just talked to you because of the homeless situation. They don't want the beach towns to be like Portland or Seattle. They would like campers or vaners to stay in campgrounds. The law inforcement are really great and down to earth around here. In Reedsport Oregon they move the homeless down to Coosbay and North bend. I hope you don't let it get to you. It was cool talking to you the other day on your live-stream. Hope all is well with you and take care.

I understand not liking being asked to leave, but you have to consider the residents not wanting strangers casing the neighborhood. You weren't but they didn't want to take a chance. I agree that is a very scenic area. I grew up there and spent lots of time walking in the fog in Newport.
The only objection that I had was that the police officers admitted that the city is breaking federal law. I don't think anyone has the right to ignore laws.
Newport is a tourist heavy town, probably some old lady who's scared of the mail man saw you out there and thought you were up to no good and made some false claims to 911 dispatch, from my experience I've always loved Newport. @@joanies6778crappy attitudes can make or break an otherwise nice place!
Such amazing scenery, I love the ocean, when I get to see it. Sorry that you had that experience, it certainly leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Chin up and enjoy the nice and positive people. Thanks for taking us along with you!
This video brought me so much joy.I love the coastal views. It's hot in Co and I am so homesick for the coast.I also enjoy the vlog of your journey. I hope California is a better experience than Oregon was.❤
Hey Thanks. Yes, it is hot almost everywhere
Beautiful scenery! 🤩 Thanks for sharing it with us, as always.
Scott, I am so sorry to hear what happened... and to one of the nicest people! I will stay away from Newport Beach. I had a great time in Ocean Shores last weekend. Sounds like I need to stay North.
Ocean Shores is awesome. Probably lots of kites out
There’s something so soothing about the ocean unlike any other 😊
So First off your videos are amazing. It’s like Bob Ross painting without the painting. It’s real! Thank you. As someone that has done vanlife for a gizillion years if that was your first knock and get out of here you are kicking ass. Oregon is so nice overall. It is a town by town situation. It sounded like they did not want any cans or rvs doing an overnight.
So sorry you had that experience. I admire your resilience and intentional positive attitude.
Yeah, I try to stay away from Newport, too, as a general rule. Sorry this happened to you. Cape Perpetua is a fantastic place, so at least there was that. Stay safe and be well.
Wow that bridge is really cool, still watching Scott. I enjoy breakfast burritos too, that national forest was beautiful too. Wow that water is amazing too, wish I was there, u would have to drag me away to leave😂😊
I could have stayed too. That area is so pretty
That sweet Art Deco bridge was built in the 30s. Yaquina Bay Bridge. Grew up nearby. Love it.
" no o/ s peeps welcomed in oregon!"
As soon as you' re on your way out its gonna up lift your spirits.
Please continue your journey with us. We love it!.
I really enjoyed Cape Perpetua and will definitely be going back there again
Thanks for the heads-up on Newport, most towns on the coast are like that. They want people to stay and pay , helps out with their smaller town economy. Also they don't want a mini Portland filled with blue tarps. Safe travels
Oh, I love Oregon, especially the coast, I have spent many days/nights in Newport. I'm sorry you were made to feel unwelcome. Depoe Bay and Lincoln City are also all time favorites. I'm enjoying your video as I miss my trips to the Oregon Coast, it's the perfect escape from California. Safe travels and hopefully no more unfriendly moments to spoil your adventure.
Thanks for the heads up about the un friendliness of Newport. I’m heading up the Oregon coast from Williams Ca in a Mercedes sprinter soon. Really enjoy your videos.
Beautiful Veiws of the Tide coming in ! My Grandmother lived in Oregon on my Mothers side! She came home to Visit her Children. She was 89 yrs. & Desided to finish her journey there Peacefully in Heaven! 👍💫🌞
Sorry that happened to you...that sucks..i would have left too.
Thanks. It turned out to be an awesome day
Scott, You just ran across some negative energy in an otherwise nice community.
Oh my goodness! And you are such a kind person, parking unobtrusively and everything… wow!
❤Nice paved Trail! Awesome, Beautiful, Beach 🌊
you do nothing wrong i don't understand some people thanks for sharing Scott
Yes I believe the same
That is exactly what it is! Unfortunately we are over ran with homeless with mental health issue's and no one seemed to care. Recently they have started cracking down on "camping" on the city street's. There is multiple camp ground near newport he would have been just fine at.
They don't want another LA,Portland or Seattle on their hands.
@@cussincookin1892❤
That was my thought exactly. Probably the only places left to not get bothered are camp grounds
@@Theweatherschannel1220 There are a few spots..but I'm not gonna mention them so that the next time I pass thru they'll hopefully still be there 😁
Yeah, the OR coast has become more difficult for nomads, largely because of the increased numbers and some bad behavior by a few. For example, the casino in Lincoln City shut down their overnight camping because people would stay for months at a time. And the casino in Florence got more restrictive, requiring you to join their club thing. The less-than-welcoming attitude is one reason I've avoided the coast for a few years.
I was thinking about how you never have any issues
@@StaticCamperVan That remark for me Scott ?
This is the 4th time I've watched this video because I absolutely have nothing else to do with my life & because I like you and your channel,, I'm your #1 Fan!
Aww, thanks. Appreciate the watching. It's usually the rain vlogs that get the rewatching
I can't believe that!
How rude!
Don't let it bother you. They don't know how nice you are. So glad you found a better spot!
Well next time I am in Oregon I will make sure not to waste my time or money in Newport. They're gonna lose alot of money.
Silicon bag - really good idea. Yes, I have a mini bar fridge. What a good idea … to prep ahead. Never let the turkeys get you down ! All the best. 🎉
Awwww sorry that happened to you. On to a better chapter!
Their loss!
Would love to visit Oregon again my family drove through in the late 70’s. Beautiful. If I return I shall take you recommendation and STIRR clear of Newport !
Fantastic views!
It’s crazy to hear about cities breaking federal law like that.
@@StaticCamperVan Their reasoning is that’s it’s a new city ordinance and if you’re within city limits then they have the right. Even if you’re on state land. He suggested that I go to the next city over that does not have a police department. But that’s just between you and I.
That’s a nice tip.
City ordinances have to follow federal laws, so that ordinance is illegal.
@@StaticCamperVanstealth camping is going to become mandatory soon. The counties are cracking down everywhere now. It's really a shame
Thankyou for the tour on the coast
Hi Scott. I’ve enjoyed your videos and work for a long time. I too am so sorry that you were greeted in such a hostile way. Please keep us apprised of your travel advisories so that we avoid unfriendly people and places. Keep on keeping on! Thank you.
As someone who is a resident of Newport, this surprises me since I’ve seen the same broken down RVs up until very recently. 🤷🏼♂️
I live in midwest and if the police stop you , they run your plates.
*Unbelievable!*
*You are a U.S. citizen, not involved in any crime YET you were told to leave, simply for BEING there!*
*I would never visit there, because of that!*
*Shame on them!!*
*Safe travels, Friend.*

😮 how embarrassing 😳 so sorry you had that experience
Thank you Scott!
I spent all last summer and nearly 2 months this spring as a van nomad in Newport OR. Never had a problem. The city seems quite accommodating to the nomadic lifestyle. This year they are working against homelessness but I didn’t experience any action against nomads. I’m sorry your experience was less. But understand.

Oh man! I'm sorry that happened to you in Newport. 😕 We love the Oregon coast. I have only been to Newport once. We were hoping to go to Bandon this summer, but it seems finding camping up there is difficult right now - they are so booked up! It seems to be the same for Mendocino.

There are too many inconsiderate houseless people that not just move in to public places but create hazard with trash and waste. Leave no trace principal folks goes a long way. BTW I am also a RV or vehicle dweller. I have both
Hello Scott, I know it’s not fun to be push away, but don’t let it spoiled your beautiful attitude towards life and keep smiling😊. And about your bag I have the same and the thing I do is unbuckle it and swing it to the shoulder I want and once I do that it’s easier to put my hand on my opposite hips to buckle up in the front, don’t know if it make sense to you, hopefully it will do 🤗✌️🤙
Good tip there. Never thought about unbuckling it 👍🏼
@@StaticCamperVan was funny when you mention it I said I use to be confused too, so now unbuckle it should be easier👍
I'm sorry that happened to you.
Fun stuff! Scott, I just saw a Kirsten Dirksen visit to a place way up near the CA/Oregon border. Self-sustaining community with rental accommodations for visitors. Their url is in the description of that video if you're interested. Oops, I see you're going to be moving along to that appointment ASAP!

I hope you give it another chance some day!

@StaticCamperVan I use to reside near Newport. They have a city ordinance to ban parking and camping there. It’s been around for years and yes they’re strict about it. I think it was something that took place when the Walmart parking lot had many people camping overnight.
Not sure if you are aware but these city ordinances break federal law. It’s curious that a city would be so brazen.
Grew up in SoCal when it was paradise in the 50s-60s. Drove up the coast in '69 and fell madly in love with Oregon. My BFF moved to Brookings and we were at the local marina cafe and an orca jumped out of the water right in front of us. An old grizzled fisherman looked at us over his coffee and said, "That's something you don't see every day!"
