I bought the Milwaukee 18 guage double cut shear. It works ok, definitely not great. It only cuts in a nearly straight line, but does so very well. Any curve at all is out of the question. It is fast and smooth (and quiet). It will not trim off small pieces or slivers, etc. If you don't cut perfectly, you can't fix it with that tool. However, a nice & new set of tin snips easily trim things up. Generally youtube is great at providing info, but it is a little lacking on the details of this topic, so your video, and the work you put into it is much appreciated.
Hey Erik! I've been binging your videos while I get ready to convert my first van! Love your videos, you have super helpful tips and tricks that most other channels don't have. Your humor and video quality is amazing! Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see your channel explode! :)
Thanks for going into the nitty-gritty of the install, the closeups and the detailed shoots are a great help to anyone considering these windows. I agree it does end up looking very good but I still think I'll go with the Arctic Tern windows, seems a bit more functional and less "funky" during install. And I am a twenty five percenter 👍
Yeah, the double pane and therefore extra insulation of the Artic Tern windows was a huge temptation, and if I was adding rear or driver side windows they'd probably have been Artic Terns. Let me know how your install goes!
Your videos have a very Mike Farrington vibe to them. Not sure if you have interacted with his channel or not, but the similarity is there. He is a very skilled woodworker.
Just had to throw in a that's what she said! Haha love the warcraft reference, I still have frozen throne on my laptop. Enjoyed the vid, can't wait to see more.
That seems like alot of work for a window that only opens 2" . I think I'd have to order the factory installed sliding door window instead...lol The plus about the ArticTern window is that it's double pane for better insulation and they open wider with built in screens and shades.
Ok I am enjoying this but, really get a battery grinder great for cutting straight lines and you can use a cleanup aka sand wheel pad on grinder for deburring edges.I would always use a silicone bead on any window install just for peace of mind. Overall it was informative and I enjoyed it.
Hey Erik very informative. Was there any discussion about adding some butyl caulking around the window frame on the outside to provide some cushioning and water penetration prevention? Can’t wait for the next ones
Hi Bruce! Per the instructions from CR Laurance these windows are designed with a mechanical seal, and rather than risk creating any possible issue with the OEM warranty, I figured I'd trust their instructions and if I do experience any leaks I'll reach out to them for a replacement.
@@ErikJohnson2020 I should have known you read the instructions. Thanks for responding. You are probably one of only a handful of people who read the data sheets of caulking and mastics.
Thanks Alex! 🥰 I picked the CR Lawrence window over the Arctic Tern largely because of the final esthetics. The Arctic Tern is double pane and has great features, but doesn't seem like a good fit for the sliding door, in my opinion. If you wanted a window on the driver side, or bunk windows, I'd totally consider the Artic Terns for that. Hope that helps!

Erik! This was great! No questions, you covered everything perfectly!! 👍🏻
Informative and entertaining. Good trouble shooting, suggesting drilling the frame in a star pattern to better distribute the pressure on the window.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!

I hadn't, but just watched a few of his woodworking videos and loved them! Thanks for the recommendation!
Very informative video, but if you have a budget of having anti-shatter 2mm glass then do apply it. It will help you in van security.
That's a fantastic idea! I'll have to look onto it! Thanks for commenting!
Great tutorial on a window install!
I love watching your videos!
Thanks! I promise I'm gonna be posting a new one soon!

Aren't the lock knobs removable?...... :p
Not a bad window, might use that on my van.
great videos! im considering arctic tern windows, will be spending a lot of time chasing pow. why did you choose the cr lawrence?

Thanks for the tutorial. Any issues with leaking since install? I’m in the choosing-windows stage myself now
None whatsoever. The CR Laurence windows are fantastic and I would 100% get them again.
