    What I like about this movie is that we see Felix entirely through Oliver’s eyes and we’re led to believe that he’s a good person when in reality he’s not. Felix is a perfect example of pretty privilege because you believe that he’s nice because of how attractive he is, but in many scenes he’s doing something extremely inconsiderate or messy.
    He’s shown throughout the film to be a liar, a cheater with multiple women, a gossip, selfish, and somewhat racist according to Farleigh. Multiple people throughout the film even say to Oliver that he treats people like they’re his toys, to which he ignores. Oliver sees Felix as a saint when in reality, he is no better than the rest of his stuck up family.

    • @carrieg1050
      @carrieg1050 3 месяца назад +19

      Not only that, but Felix played with Oliver's emotions by constantly giving him mixed signals. (i.e.: his hand on Ollie's leg, saying he "loved" Ollie. I'm sure he said and did these kind of confusing things to Ollie, all the time - even when they weren't expressly shown to the audience.) Felix had to *KNOW* that Ollie "fancied him". I think Felix got "off" (pun intended - lol) with people adoring him. Hence, all of the "new boys" he brought to Saltburn. Why didn't he bring GIRLS to Saltburn?! Only guys (a.k.a.: Felix's "adoring fans" who either wanted to *BE* him or be *WITH* him)... I also think that's why Farleigh has such a negative attitude towards Ollie. All of the new guys Felix brought to the house, during the summer, represented "competition" to him (sitting at the right hand of the "Chosen One", Felix... But, I digress.) When Ollie *DARED* to show anyone else attention, Felix became possessive and controlling... Felix's mind games were mind-gaming!! (lol)

    What a lot of people seem to miss is that when you're that filthy rich, you also have all kinds of power. A family like that can make any police investigation simply go away... and it's assumed that they probably did since they believed Felix died of an overdose at a party they threw where illegal drugs were present. They likely squashed any investigation to avoid being held accountable themselves. We also see Oliver placing the razorblades on the tub, so we don't know if he actually killed Venetia or if she did it herself and Oliver just set her up to make that choice. She was drunk, and depressed... which also wouldn't have raised too many red flags that she took her life after losing her only brother.
    Oliver left soon after that... and if you notice the obituary date, it was 2022... which means this was more than a decade later that Sir James passed away. Presumably Oliver asked for enough money to live comfortably for a long time... he essentially just waited it out so that he couldn't be considered a suspect if the old man passed on his own. Oliver played the long game and won.

      This was easily the most original and best film of the year. Most daring. Most hypnotic. Acting was the best, by everyone. Production design, music, cinematography, direction - the best. I could watch Barry forever! The film is simply about desire. There are those who have desire in secret & fantasize. And those who have desire & act on it. Wonderful. Of course, it could just be about the Irish eating the English. lol. But wonderful. And I think so influenced by the “In-yer-face” theatre of the late 90s early 00s. Your reaction was priceless. Art’s only requirement is to provoke an emotional response. And boy did this do it. Amazing. And I can’t praise Barry enough - so brave and fearless. My choice for Best film of the year, though, Red, White & Royal Blue was my favorite.

    I loved your reactions to Heartstopper a lot so imagine how happy I was when I saw this video popping up lol. AND YOU DID NOT DISAPPOINT! This video is such a blast to watch!!!
    I literally can't stop thinking about this film in the last few days. I wish I could just erase my memories to be able to experience it for the first time again haha. Also, Barry OMG. I didn't know about him before this film but I immediately looked up everything he's been in right after. I love it when an actor has such a distinct unsettling aura like this.
    Thank you so much for this video and happy new year!!

    This was a great reaction! You definitely need to watch Bottoms. I watched these two movies back-to-back and they definitely make a great pairing of unhinged “Be Gay, Do Crime” cinema!

    I honestly don’t think this film’s message was “eat the rich”. I think it shows everyone’s hunger for power and money, and what they would be willing to do to be the “rich” they claim they “eat”.
