My sister and her husband with their kids. They visited Orania twice and loved it both times. They spoke very highly of the society.

I hope that a large number of South Africans take the opportunity to listen to this and realise what can be done when an honest, God fearing community make theirs and their children's future a priority in their lives. I will certainly share this with others.

As an English speaker I spent a most memorable weekend in Orania...it was a revelation and a perfect example that every community should emulate for longterm success.

I understand there's a lot of nuance to the exclusivity of Orania, and one has to be careful how this exclusivity is framed. However, I also do not think it would be morally wrong or racist to have a "white" only community, for the same reasons Joost laid out for why there's nothing wrong with having an exclusively Afrikaner, Christian community. In terms of demographics, the end result is the same in the context of South Africa. Having said that, it's not good enough for your goal to simply be "whites only", as there is nothing but race to unify you which will lead to internal conflicts. This I now understand thanks to this conversation.
My perspective is also coloured by the fact that I live in Europe as an expat since I was very young. The people and homelands from which our ancestors left for South Africa are under threat. We are becoming a minority in our own homelands and things are getting very violent and dangerous in some parts, and beyond that there's an anti-white agenda being pushed on us. It's not on the level of singing "kill the Boer", but in a few decades we might be approaching that. The only non-violent solution I can see for Europe is to make Italian-only, Irish-only, English-only etc. communities following the model of Orania. But I now also understand that these communities will need more to bind them than just being "white/European", and more than just nationality, that it needs faith and a love for one's people, traditions and heritage.
I hope one day circumstances will allow me to at least visit Orania, and I hope this mindset and movement grows not just for Afrikaners and Europeans but all peoples.
Same thing is happening in the US and the violence is off the charts.

I don't understand the outrage. In my country, overtly racist "safe spaces" are celebrated, but Orania is a problem? I say we expand the experiment: make neighboring "Oranias" of different cultures and see which succeed and which fail. The only people that fear Orania are people worried their ideology will be exposed as the problem, instead of the people they're trying to scapegoat.

Why is it okay for an english speaker to speak Afrikaans with an english accent but Afrikaners are mocked when speaking english with an Afrikaans accent.

I would like to move to Orania but I have several concerns. My first concern is what provent the government from intervention of breakung up Orania? What prevent the goverment from enforing their EWC law on to Orania? What would you do if the ANC bus people into Orania like they did in 1994 to Bothatswana.

I was just confirming that real power is needed to pump water and that while I admire the achievements of the Orania Movement people, Solar is unfortunately a very expensive solution, but I understand why, and they need it to get away from Eskom and dependency on the Gov. They remain dependent of diesel and Petrol too. I know they will succeed.

I'm an black American and Orania seem like a lovely place I would love it there but I don't speak the language or white...lol but not a lot of white people can live there most of them would cause problems there and don't want to be isolated like that

I know Orania is, of course, a Christian Afrikaner community, however, I don't think that, morally, there would be anything wrong with an exclusively white community in South Africa and I don't think it would be "racist". In European countries, black and brown people are encouraged to have their own spaces on the basis that they are a minority. Surely, the same argument can be made for white people in South Africa? Naturally, I understand that politics always trumps logic and reason, so it is probably a naive question.
Can those who are not of afrikaans descend who live in a different country become 'members' of the orania community? If it is a 'self sustaining' community, does the community cooperative with similar types of communities around the world. Is the 'cooperative model' used. What exactly is the 'difference' between the orania community and the Amish communities in USA? Both have 'exclusive' communities primarily based around their 'heritage' and 'traditions'. A Christian africaners community is what the Amish would tell you also. They keep everything exactly the same as when they first arrived in the 'new world'. Both are 'exclusive' and members of the community are not allowed to 'mix' with the outside world which they refer to as 'the English'. The 'idea' of an 'exclusive' Christian community was also 'created' by John Calvin. John Calvin 'created his perfect city in Geneva. They all 'followed the rules' and had 'very strict regulations' that 'everyone had to 'keep'. If people did not 'keep' the rules, their were severe fines and strong discipline to 'keep everyone in line'. We are not 'instructed' to 'recreate' heaven on earth in the Bible. John Calvin's 'perfect city' no longer exists. Your 'Christian' faith is meant to be 'shared' with those around you. Yes your community is 'prosperous' as are all the Amish communities in USA. Elders are to 'govern' the community with love and respect for everyone. So does being a good afrikaans individual get you into the 'kingdom of God'? Yes you have all the investment 'models' of all good 'business organisations'. So is the success of orania 'more important' than the 'kingdom of God'? Will all the money that orania individuals 'generate' be able to 'buy you way' into the kingdom of God? In the Lords prayer we pray 'your kingdom come'. God's ways are not 'our' ways and his kingdom is an 'everlasting kingdom'. Kingdoms on earth rise and Kingdoms on earth fall as it has been for ages and ages. Your community will only 'survive' if you 'acknowledge' the 'source' of your energy. If it does not rain,how does orania survive? If the sun does the shine, how does orania survive? Who exactly 'provides' all these 'resources' to orania and 'all' communities everywhere throughout the world? If your 'achievements' are simply based on your 'own' achievements and how you 'rely' on your own ingenuity and financial 'power, then you have 'forgotten' who actually gives us 'resources' and has 'created' every individual on the planet. The rich young man came to Jesus and asked him 'what must I do to be saved'. He had followed all the rules and regulations of his religion and was a successful entrepreneur so he was what today we would call a man who had 'made it'. He had done 'everything' and was 'proud' of all his achievements and was a 'pillar of society'. Yet he wanted to know what he now 'needed to do'. He had done everything and was 'the best of the best'. So did all his 'achievements' in life give him quodos in the 'kingdom of God'. He had all the 'skills' to survive and thrive in his world. He had 'everything' and yet 'he had nothing'. What 'spiritual capital' did he have? He had it 'all together' and was at the 'top' of his career trajectory and so he would 'on paper' be an 'ideal' candidate to be part of a 'new movement' for 'change' in his society. So how exactly did Jesus respond to him? On 'paper' he was the 'ideal' person to become a 'leader' in this new world order and community. You cannot serve God and money. It does not specify the 'source' of this money. The 'truth shall set you free'. What exactly is the 'real truth'? A house built 'on sand' with no 'true foundation' will ultimately 'fail'. The early colonists to the new world also had high 'spiritual ideas'. Pennsylvania was a 'Quakers colony'. Maryland was primarily a Roman Catholic colony. We can all 'found' societies based around our religious 'beliefs', but ultimately this 'community' has to 'expand' and others will come and contribute to the community. If a community does not have 'specific' skills in the community, how do you 'acquire' these skills? You have to 'bring in these skills' from outside. The 'persecution' in France and 'edit of Nantes, brought many 'refugees' to the UK. These refugees brought their own 'specific' skills with them. They were 'skilled' in the manufacture of 'cloth' and even 'invented' specific 'machines' and started the mechanisation of their 'industry. This 'new technology' came from outside of the 'ethnic' communities living in their 'adopted' countries. So would the local community have 'survived' economically with their 'existing' technologies? The 'growth' of an entire industry was based on 'new' technologies 'brought into' the country. These 'foreign' workers totally changed an industry and a country became a work player. Yet this 'industry' once employing thousands and thousands now no longer exists. If people 'worship' orania then they have created a 'false god' and have made an 'idol' out of worldly success and culture. God only 'sends blessings' on those who put his kingdom first in their lives. We are not promised success and mansions in this world. That is the 'false teaching' of the prosperity Gospel. We are told to 'seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness'. This world is finite and will 'pass away'. Our home is not this world be it orania or anywhere else you can think of. Once hymn starts 'O worship the King, all Glorious above'. Orania is a 'man-made' construct and like everything 'man made' it will rise and decay like everyone and everything on this planet. You can reconstruct for ever and ever, but ultimately decay, age and rot 'destroy' everything on this earth and so we keep rebuilding and rebuilding which go on forever and forever because decay in this world go on forever and forever. Will orania fail or succeed? If your foundation is solid, your house stands. If your foundation is weak and not solid, your house collapses. May we 'build' our houses on the one and only 'sure' foundation that ultimately 'keeps us safe and secure' and lasts for eternity.
If Orania is to be a Christian Afrikaner community, it should welcome displaced Afrikaners by the affirmative action of the ANC-EFF government.
They should be welcomed as their homeland after a vetting process for criminal background in the same way that Jews are welcome to live in Israel from its rebirth in 1948 when it haa no resources
to absorb them
Today, Israel continues to welcome Jews even the African Ethiopian Jews to their Jewish homeland.
Any Afrikaner is welcome to apply for residency.
