Just goes to show you shouldn't buy a repossessed car either. If they couldn't afford the payments then you know that didn't keep up with the maintenance.
Plus, Never, Never & Never buy a used car from a mechanic; EVEN if it is his PERSONAL car! There is an arabic saying which says : " bābel najjār makhalla", literally translated, it means : the door of a carpenter's workshop is often cracked & rusty. We all know that a carpenter makes good & beautiful wooden pieces of furniture, however, he never cares to fix or repair his workshop's doors. LOL , A measure suits other trades.
@@BOMBON187 That is why it is said: if you are well off, you can buy a 2nd hand car, however, if you are broke buy a brand new one ..!!!! It seems illogical. !!!!!!😕 Simply, a rich man can afford maintenance & repair ..a poor can not. lol.
Or Imagine not listening to obvious good advice. But then again, youd have to know a little something about mechanics to realize it. So scrap that. Back to social media you go......Have Fun!!!!
@Itachi Uchiha Right, always get it checked. Several men I've known sold used cars at dealer lots. All said same thing, when they take a trade in their techs check it out and if it needs more than a few minr repairs they send it to the auction. Those end up at your local independent used car lot. Used cars from dealer lots are a better bet.
I own a 2011 Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDI S-Line Black Edition. I bought it with 30k miles on it and it now has 130k. It has never caused me any problems and is the most reliable car I've ever owned. I obviously do regular oil changes and services and as long as you look after it it will return the favour in buckets. I will have to change it for a petrol version within the next year unfortunately due to ULEZ emissions changes in London being expanded to where I live and due to it's age I'll have to sell it to someone who lives outside of London. Will be sad to let it go. I wouldn't buy the saloon tbf, it's Evant only for me, they look amazing and have performance and practicality. Ticks all the boxes. From London, UK
I've owned a few A4's with this engine. As long as you keep oil in it, it will run forever. I can almost guarantee that whoever owned this car let the oil run low, and the timing chain tensioners lost tension due to low oil pressure and jumped time causing the valves to crash into the pistons as these are interference engines. After about 2014, they fixed the oil consumption issue. It is important to keep oil in these cars.
I got this same engine on my Audi a5 never had a problem the secret on these engines is to change the oil very frequent with high quality oil due to carbon build up on the pistons rings ... if you keep this engine clean it’s a very fast and reliable car so this scotty has no clew what he is talking about
It's is fair these 2.0 t engines are known to be bad even within the Audi network that's why they will do piston ring changes under good will at dealerships, they are crap even if well maintained, they were manufactured with dodgy pistons and rings prone to failure 🤣
Such a quick and shallow verdict for an engineering masterpiece. Anybody can destroy their engine with poor or no maintenance; that has nothing to do with the brand.
@@gordonremsey8055 The outliers dont mean the engines on these cars arent made with shoddy components. While it's unlikely to lock up like this unless neglected, chances are much higher than average that you'll be needing a lot of insanely expensive work done to keep it going.
@@adelclay5283 now I'm starting to get worried about my Volkswagen GLI with the 2.0 turbo. It's basically a cheap A4 and I think they use the same engines 😬
The battery isn't even supposed to be there that's where the spare tire goes 😂 probably the owner trying to distribute the weight a little since they're front heavy but it doesn't help much since the entire engine sits in front of the front axels
Omg, I hate when I see nice cars with shotty tint jobs...but I've been on a few car lots with polarized sunglasses, and have seen nearly every vehicle have defects in the factory tinted glass 🤢🤢
I've owned my 2013 A4 2.0T for two years and have had zero issues besides new tires and oil changes. It's a rocket that cruises easily at 80 mph at less than 2000 rpms. It's comfy and has the awesome Bang and Olufsen audio
I have a 2017 A4 Quattro. I’ve had it since brand new for 4 years now, and I’ve put 95K miles on it. I also tuned it to APR stage 1 at around 40K miles on it. I have not had a single issue since I’ve gotten the car with literally anything. I think a lot of how long a car lasts has a lot to do with how well the owner maintains it.
....it can be just good or bad luck too. Also which country or new factory it is made in. Plus yours is only 4yrs & 95k miles; it can be that the reliability drops at higher miles (logically). Compare it to friends of mine who have owned cheaper cars, Corolla, Mazda, Subaru, Honda; which were still going fine for a 15 - 25 yr old car with 240k km to, even 500k km for the Honda; reliability and low cost to maintain way beyond the original low price. Prestige expensive cars should outlast these cheaper cars proportionally to price ratio. But it is largely the opposite. The prestige cars are bought new by consumers who will usually sell it at the end of warranty or lease period, so the future unreliability doesn't affect them as much. It is the 2nd or 3rd owner who can't afford a new prestige car who pays for the big problems, which is part of the reason why their resale value from new is usually quite low. The stats show that the big Japanese brands are better. Even for the same repairs they are cheaper to fix too. Lexus & Porsche are 2 prestige exceptions where their quality (durability & reliability) is high as an average across their models. The industry stats & experience of many in the industry counts more than a good case here & there. But wishing you get continuous good life out of your Audi. I personally drive a 2009 Landcruiser 200; from all accounts way better than the German options in 2009; Q7, GLE & X5.
....the general statistics for Audi are the proof; parts are very expensive and some of the fancy tech from VAG is not refined enough before releasing it to market; letting the initial buyers be the guinea pigs. Every mechanic says Audi are scary expensive in parts (ha ha exact same identical part bought for a Skoda is cheaper!!!) plus average reliability not as good as average Mazda, Toyota; esp long term. So looking after a Trabant (junk Soviet car) will still not be as good as a Toyota that is not looked after as well as some cars are disadvantaged by poor parts engineering or poor quality as soon as they roll off the production line
How do you expect anyone to have confidence in your words, while hooking up the battery by putting on the negative before the positive, which is a BIG no-no, that any decent mechanic knows you don't do!

In the past 3 weeks of watching scottys videos, I have changed my cabin air filter, which was filthy by the way, my intake air filter, purchased a digital tire gauge and checked my tire psi, and changed my power steering fluid with a turkey baster. Things I would have never thought to do with out watching these videos. Thank you Scotty!
also remember to change coolant, transmission fluid, and differential oil if your car is getting over 100k miles. It also doesnt hurt to check the fuel filter. If you have a turbo car the last thing you want is to lean out! I'm in the process of getting all these things checked off. I need to do a timing chain eventually, but lets be real I'm probably gonna put it off way longer than I should lol. Thats a pretty huge job on my car.

My dad has an a4 cpo when he bought in 2017, with 6,000 miles. It's warrantied through 2022... Then he's selling it. Usually he keeps his cars longer, but it's not worth waiting to see how reliable it is

Earlier this year in January, I purchased a 2007 Audi A4. It had just under 109k miles on it, and I was the second owner. The owner before me seemed to have taken very good care of the car while he had it. Fast forward to now, and after only putting in 4500 miles I spent $1200 on maintenance. Had to replace serpentine belt twice, belt tensioner, front right axle, and had an oil change TWICE. Yes, TWICE. To be honest, I wouldn’t say it’s been a complete nightmare to have. I’m just hoping and praying the thing doesn’t have any more problems by next year, which is when I plan to get another vehicle. Wish me luck.
I feel like pretty much any other car would’ve needed the same maintenance, to be fair maybe not a Toyota. I know people who’ve had domestics and payed the same for repair.
When installing a battery I was taught to always connect the positive side first and the negative last. That way if you touch the spanner across from the positive to the chassis there's no circuit so it won't do anything nasty.
Listen to him! I wasn't sure what he was talking about until I had to work on mine this weekend. I had to change the oil filter housing assembly cause it was made of plastic and deformed from the heat, causing it to leak. What a pain in the butt that was to change! Took me almost an entire day! Unless you have a reliable daily driver for backup or have a lot of money, don't bother with one!
You didn't make a crime you have audi, but is so sad to have so serious problem. It's your money and you have the right to spend them as you want, but again is so sad. Imagine me and other people , that we earn so little money to try to bank money to buy an audi and see serious problems like this. It's so bad when you see so bad quality car's. As Scotty say todays cars get more expensive and the quality drop more and more and goes on.
Not a lot to be smug about in a 2011 Audi lol. Having owned a couple of the 2.0T, I’ve never had a problem with them. Had an ‘08 and a 2016. 160K miles and 40K respectively. I’d assume most people just don’t take care of them (probably because of the sky high costs for preventative maintenance and repairs when paying for someone else to do it.) Proper maintenance and they’ll take care of you. Just change the fluids and parts that wear proactively.

Vehicle maintenance should never be so expensive that people have to debate on whether they can afford it or not. It's basically the same simple stuff that's been used for over a hundred years now. But the cars are purposely made hard to work on, with the hope that people will give up and take them to a stealership.

The car rolled until it hit a snow bank, no motor, no brake assist, no steering assist, no emergency Brake!!! The dealer found a code that was not in the manual. They phoned Germany. The code signified “Catastrophic engine failure”. They dropped the oil pan and found chunks of metal. The customer was told, “Nobody has this problem.” The customer replied, “I’m not nobody!” True story, I overheard the consult with Audi management.
My audi a6 2.0tdi has gone 615 000km still works like clockwork, and maintenance isn't so expensive here in Serbia. Love my Audi :) Greetings from 🇷🇸 Scotty 🖐
You're in europe. Huge difference from the ones made over here. And plus I still would never even put the european ones on the most reliability list. That goes to the Asian auto makers who started last and finished first.
Over here in Europe, the vast majority of Audis have TDI engines, and they are very solid cars. My old 2004 A3 TDI two litre runs as new with 148k miles, and a pals 2013 A3 TDI have just under 200k miles and runs perfect. Handling, braking are superb, and the interiors super with great controls.

Since the accident I put a new tire on it and duck taped the hole in the door left by the semi. I still drive it to work! It drives like nothing ever happened to it 😂
There’s a manual key hidden in the fob for opening the trunk. You can still jump the car under the hood. I only made it a minute or two… I have no idea why people like/follow/watch this channel.
If they got the diesel and know how to take care of it, it will last 500k+ miles easy and cost less than a Corolla but with better performance. But if you rarely let your engine warm up and neglect maintenance, you’ll be better off with the Corolla. The 2.0t isn’t that bad either and has a lot of benefits if you take care of it’s few quirks. This scum bag that sold the A4 never took care of it.
I just bought the same car but a year newer and literally half the price with 80k. Seemed like a good enough deal plus all the maintenance had been kept up with. I’m at 105k now and still no issues, but I baby it and do the maintenance.
Why "forget" to read the user manual! Than get surprised because don't know that almost 100% of cars out there. Have an emergency release for trunk, gas compartment and other "electrical access only" stuff! This Audi ,like all others, is no different! Scotty love to bash, based on peoples ignorance... and sometimes it's own! :-(
2.0T gas engines from 2008 until 2015 afaik are bad as heck. They'll run as long as you keep the oil in check. 2.0TDI on the other hand, are a better option to maintain. But to be honest, it's simply a matter of taking good care of it, like with any other car. Take care of it, it'll take you wherever you want, with no problems. Neglect it, and it will fail on you at any point.

My thoughts exactly. I was going to post this comment myself. The early B8 A4s (2008-2012 I believe) have the 2.0T engine that is well known for timing chain failures. The later ones apparently have fewer issues, but still...they're Audis... so caveat emptor.

Nice cars but they are more likely to have problems, that doesn't mean ALL have issues. You got lucky. As for engines, a UK report rated Audi's as the worst engines a few years ago, based on insurance repair claims.
@@noneofyourbusiness5433 What year production were these Audis you speak of? I know Audi had some rough times 15 - 20 years ago but the last 8 years especially they have been delivering some great cars. Next month will be 7 years since I bought my S6 and I plan to keep it for a very long time. It still looks good too, the styling doesn't go out of date like other makes. I also know a number of Audi owners that love their cars so everybody's experience is different. If Audi was as bad as you say then they wouldn't be growing every year.
not really ..some are cheap to repair .. My Astra - engines are plentyful. and not that expensive to buy .. you have to weigh up the cost - if it gonna cost you £ 600 quid to have the engine fixed , but your car is worth say £ 1500 then obviously it is worth paying it, after all .. if you scrap your car because you don't want to pay the £600 .. then you are left with no car and i presume you will have to find more then £600 to buy a decent new car... doesn't make sense at all.

Just goes to show you shouldn't buy a repossessed car either. If they couldn't afford the payments then you know that didn't keep up with the maintenance.
Plus, Never, Never & Never buy a used car from a mechanic; EVEN if it is his PERSONAL car!

We all know that a carpenter makes good & beautiful wooden pieces of furniture, however, he never cares to fix or repair his workshop's doors. LOL ,

Bro you got the gem no comparison 😂
I've owned a few A4's with this engine. As long as you keep oil in it, it will run forever. I can almost guarantee that whoever owned this car let the oil run low, and the timing chain tensioners lost tension due to low oil pressure and jumped time causing the valves to crash into the pistons as these are interference engines. After about 2014, they fixed the oil consumption issue. It is important to keep oil in these cars.
I got this same engine on my Audi a5 never had a problem the secret on these engines is to change the oil very frequent with high quality oil due to carbon build up on the pistons rings ... if you keep this engine clean it’s a very fast and reliable car so this scotty has no clew what he is talking about
Just bought a 2010 Advant where this happened Every Valve was bent. But for 1800$ and 117k miles its worth to just put a new head on it.

It's is fair these 2.0 t engines are known to be bad even within the Audi network that's why they will do piston ring changes under good will at dealerships, they are crap even if well maintained, they were manufactured with dodgy pistons and rings prone to failure 🤣

All audio are junk wait till you bust over 100k and start crying
....the general statistics for Audi are the proof; parts are very expensive and some of the fancy tech from VAG is not refined enough before releasing it to market; letting the initial buyers be the guinea pigs.
Define maintain. Maintain aka spend loads of money on it...?

Lesson learned - when someone owes you money never double down. If the guy that owed me $$ was willing to part with the car I’d tell him to sell it and pay me the difference of what he owes.
That would never happen. Sorry I know this from experience. He would sell the car and blow your money. Never lend money out. Chances are it's bye bye to your money.

Its not the car, is the owner.
Those Audis run forever with regular maintenance.
Here in europe we reg put over 200k miles on these.
I believe that the European model audi are different from us model Audi. But I agree, if you don't keep up with maintenance, any car will be a pile.
200 k is nothing tho. 200,000 now that's not even that much for a car that's reliable
@@robmalcolm8042 definitely. 200k is nothing if maintenance is kept up with. But some engines and vehicles (1980s Toyota truck) will keep going even after the apocalypse
1985 VW Gti 1.8 liter 8v with 420k when I traded it in. Audis/VW require German efficient like maintenance and you must be somewhat delicate when using the buttons and dials as well. American car's interiors are made for cavemen, tested by a hungry brown bear. jk
Exactly i had an audi a4 with 268k miles in America and she was still reliable.
When i was broke I could never keep up with the maintenance on my car. Dont buy cars from broke people.
Audi is Germany's revenge....
Germany's cars are made for performance not reliability lol I'm still surprised people still think they are daily petrol drivers. German diesels are not too bad on the other hand those are closer to commuter drivers
Aberrations Abattoir Its a 2.0L 4 banger, not a Lamborghini. It was made for daily driving and can't even make it past 87,000 miles.
Audis are acutally ok. If you buy a manual with the diesel engine, but you're in America boiii..
Just kidding even here in Germany most people get rid of them after 7 years..Working in a shop at the customer-servicepoint. Damn people do spend much money on simple stuff like normal inspections. Exaust has to be in good shape if your shocks are worn good bye payment for this month.
I'd be really interested in a Fiat 500 just because they're cheap to run, if I knew nothing about cars.
We fix all cars but we have some 500's. Normal service cost you around 250,- for an oil change,oil-, air, interior filter. If you'd have to do that for a Volkswagen Golf you'd pay 470,-
Fiat says you have to change the timing belt every 6 years or 75.000miles. In that time all the small Volkswagen/Audi T(F)SI-Engines (smaller variants of this '2.0T'), scream for a new timing chain, eventho they look cool and don't have 69hp like the 500 and are female.
@@NoOne-oe3co you dont need to sacrifice performance for reliability lol
I have very bad experience with the Volkswagen group. the diesel engine is still ok but all the German cars are worth nothing anymore. lada is already more reliable than the German troop. and ridiculously expensive too. i will stick with toyota / lexus. or possibly Honda.

Same problem bruh. Gonna try to fix it myself though.
Never again. No more audis for me anytime soon.
Audi had a recall for piston rings in the B8 generation ( same generation in the video ). If you're lucky enough to get Audi to cover the repair costs and get the rings swapped it's a solid car for sure.

How old was it? I'am still driving my old a4 it's from 1995 so it's 25 years now, and driving fine 🤔 but i'm from Germany, maybe they sold better quality here, or the newer Models are way worse than the older Models. An a4 B5 is known as very reliable and you can still see many of them here on the road in Germany and they are all about 20 years old and older
@@tobityp2 its different because in germany the roads are great and germans dont use there car much like americans and the weather is not hot so the oil is not getting burning very fast and finally germany is a small state compared to u.s so the car doesnt get much of Km

I have seen so many bad reviews on german cars that i am getting scare of getting one., my buddy bought (bc his family is wealthy) his first brand new Benz C Class (don't remember well but it think was c class) just bc he got bored with his Prius (big mistake) he drove that thing back and forth to the Dealer for everything you can think of. Lights went out one night while driving (including the ones inside) but the car was running . Sometimes didn't start, the back up camera glitches. One day the windows rolled up and never roll down anymore.. he was going to the dealership for either mechanical or electrical issues almost every month for 8 months, one day he stopped at a Honda Dealer and trade it for a Hybrid Accord and he said bc the Benz was more expensive he got money back
Lol same here, I have S4 and felt offended by this video because not all Audi are junk
Mine is an a4 but the B7 model (2008 to be specific) had it for 6 years now and also modded to shxt. Pushing over 500 hp (built motor) other than the mods, car has been solid since I've had it. Few hiccups here and there but nothing major

Scotty’s RUclipss are completely awesome!! An acquaintance steered her new (2017) high-end Audi down a gentle hill in her small Canadian town. Everything stopped.

I feel that guy's pain. He got well and truly ripped off!
It's disheartening for sure.

yeah that guy before him definitely did no maintenance
Over here in Europe, the vast majority of Audis have TDI engines, and they are very solid cars. My old 2004 A3 TDI two litre runs as new with 148k miles, and a pals 2013 A3 TDI have just under 200k miles and runs perfect. Handling, braking are superb, and the interiors super with great controls.
I have a 2005 Audi A4 Quatro and it has 222,000 miles on it. The other day a semi truck shredded the tire, rim and the back driver side door. Since it had awd I didn't lose control. Since the accident I put a new tire on it and duck taped the hole in the door left by the semi. I still drive it to work! It drives like nothing ever happened to it 😂
They are only good for Europe. “Only”

Weird.

Unfortunately Hondas have timing belt driven engines that are interference engines. Replace that belt within 100,000 miles.
