What would the world of Harley owner’s ever do without you making certain that we all have the very best and latest up-keep maintenance available anywhere!!! Thank Doc Harley
Said it once, twice, and am saying it again....YOU SIR ARE THE MAN!! Thanks ALWAYS for these great tips Doc. Keep the great info coming and Ride Safe Brother !
Instead of Moly 44 I use K Y Jelly. Works well, but I have noticed when I use my clutch a lot in heavy traffic, my bike giggles and shakes more than usual. 😊
Thank you. Just changed the Levers on my 18 XL1200C tonight. Sprayed some Motion Pro Cable Lube inside the cable. Only thing I'm concerned about, The Adjustment. It felt like it needed an adjustment before. Dealer will be doing the 5k service soon.
Good on ya' Doc,I am forever touching my bike in places most don't even think of...People say I am slow when I do a service or maintenance on their bike, but they get so much more than they know..I'm not a formally trained mechanic, heck not even a tradesman but I can read and I do think, and notice things along the way... And you are right I do get a sense of pride in knowing my bike is well maintained and looked after... Live the biker life-style and ride on safely forever.....
...and also cleaning and lubing that plastic pin on its cylindrical section, as it's the part engaging with the eyelet of the cable.. (although it's a king of self-lubricating plastic, but clean!) so to reduce wear and slack on the lever! Great video as usual, Doc! Cheers from Italy!
The best thing to do is solder the first inch of cable so it attaches to the pivot. That way the cable doesn't flex at all because the soldered section acts like a lever. The cable may NEVER break if you do this procedure. My original clutch cable in my 1979 Superglide has never broken after 42 years and 104,000 miles.
Doc, what’s the part number for the antirattle spring underneath the clutch lever? Mine rattle like crazy but every site I’ve checked online doesn’t have one that is an exact fit for a ‘22 FXBBS
Me: don't wanna get out of bed. Feeling lazy watching RUclips. Doc harley: how to clean your clutch cable. Me: ITS A BRAND FUCKING NEW DAY LETS DO THIS!!!!!
Hi Doc. Every time I have a problem with my bikes I always refer to your videos. It helps so much specially I am 2 hours away from the dealership. I learn how to clean my fuse box and my bike does not experience any hard starting any more. Hope you can share more tips and educate us more. Hoping to email you but I don’t have your email address. Thanks
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson thanks for responding. Could this also be the reason for the EITMS to only activate when it's in neutral? It used to activate in gear at a stop with the clutch held in but it doesn't do that anymore, mine only activates in neutral now.
Never knew it was that simple to remove the Clutch Handle. Have just under 4k miles on my 18 XL1200C. Maybe I should do mine? I will be having the dealer do the 5k service. Less the Oils and Filter.
LOL. After watching this video I was like oh yeah I need to do that to mine. Then I seen the price, ouch. Using sparingly it should last a while anyway.
Great video Doc, love the maintenance info. Is this something that Harley teaches techs or is it your own instinct? I ask because if I take my bike to the dealer for work on clutch/brake, are they going to do this?
A couple of suggestions. 1. Take it to your local dealer. 2. Purchase a Harley-Davidson service manual and parts catalog and follow the instructions. ~ Doc
Doc I have a question..... I have a 2018 street glide special and when I service the air cleaner I see oil in the throttle body walls and the bottom of my air filter is wet with oil. It’s not dripping or saturated. Should I be concerned? Thanks
I act have a 2013 softail. I did notice a fair amount of oil in my stock air cleaner. When i switched to my high flow stage 1 i noticed much less oil. I was told by the techs at my local dealer that excessive oil in the throttle body/filter can also mean your crankcase oil is filled to high.
*question PLEASE* Husband installed 4 inch risers to my 2020 slim. Now when I turn handles to the right *at full lock only* bike wont go when clutch is released. Can we pull these more ourselves or should we take the bike in? We did take the bike in but what they were charging we honestly can’t do right now and I would like to enjoy my bike. Is it too dangerous to mess with? Is not likely i will be doing no full lock maneuvers to the right but it shouldn’t be doing that. Thank you
It sounds like you have the clutch cable in a bind. It could be how the cable is routed, the length of the cable or a combination of the two. I'd recommend having someone look at the set-up with the risers installed and see if you need to get longer control cable.
Thanks Doc for the tip. Is it politically correct to spray lubricant in the clutch cable and let it drain in the primary? I am probably missing something but I had to ask.

Been doing it since I was a youngster on my dirtbikes, still do it now.🇺🇸👊🏻
Thanks for reminding me Doc I forgot about the clutch lever. Good thing to get done before the snow melts here in northern Utah.
Excellent video Doc! I've been using the Harley cable lube with the needle, works great. Thank you

oh my....Doc
All very true .... adding grease may just make the situation worse. grease should work on clean surfaces.

Thanks again for sharing I didn't think of all that & not cleaning everything & lubing just the areas that need just a little bit.
Glad it was helpful….Doc
This is on my list of things to do when spring hits. 👍
Glad I saw this. I was told they're just hard clutches that's the way they are. Now I know I can do something about it. 👍
Thanks Doc many great idea's
I appreciate that…..Doc
Always informative

Thanks Doc. I,m going to do this today.
That Little Plastic Part .... So It Wears Out !
Is it detrimental to use Moly 44? Can I use any other grease? thanks!
Moly is a great choice….Doc

Good to know.
Another great video! Thanks Doc!
What is the name of the grease you used? Is molykote 44 medium the same thing? Or do u have the exact brand you use?
Yes that is exactly what we use. Molykote 44 medium. Thanks ~ Doc
Is this the same procedure for the 17 Ultra Limited?
Thanks for all the informative videos.
Yes but be careful. HD added a switch near the pin...Doc

More is less and less is more.makes perfect sense.
My oil dip, stick is out of whack and doesn’t seat properly. Is it adjustable?.

Thank you. It is very special….Doc
Hey Doc, what is the correct snap ring plier to get the clutch pin loose, and what spray lube do you recommend to spray into the cable ? Thanks !
Snap ring pliers with a .038 tip. Most of our shop lube contains PTFE for max lubricity. Thanks ~ Doc
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson Thank You Doc.
You lost me at PTFE, can you provide a brand name ?
@@wb4514 Kimball Midwest or Pro Cam are good brands. Thanks ~ Doc
The end of clutch on my 2003 Electra glide snapped in half .
My guy said never seen that happen ever
You think lithium all purpose lube is good for the pivot bolt and lever?
Yes, sparingly. Thanks ~ Doc
you are the best boss
Can you use wd40 silicone lube on cables clutch throttle etc.
I don't think it would last, but never tried...Doc
How do I change the stator on my 05 harley davidson sportster

Doc I have a question..... I have a 2018 street glide special and when I service the air cleaner I see oil in the throttle body walls and the bottom of my air filter is wet with oil. It’s not dripping or saturated. Should I be concerned? Thanks
perfectly normal. The crank case breathers recycle the air/oil back out through the air intake.
So you have a 2018 and it’s doing what my 2015 did until I fixed it. It’s nice to know harley doesn’t fix there flaws
Molykote light or medium?
Franky Baby light
Low Country Harley-Davidson Thanks Doc.
What lubricant did you say harley says to use ? 44 ?
A good quality Moly Lube...Doc
