Thanks so much for this SoftBrake information. I am in the process of switching over to the heel/toe shifter, linkage system. I know what it's like to be stranded and I finally feel secure knowing that, with appropriate maintenance of my equipment, that will not happen to me again. Chrome molly will not let me down like Chinese crap and even stainless steel cannot not meet the strength of crome molly. Thank you for this video and and Thank You SoftBrake for the stellar parts solution!
Oil playes a big part with smoothness of transmission shifts and finding Neutral. I use AMSOIL but also RED LINE are excellent transmission oils 👍🇬🇧🇺🇲😎
I always removed it before but after it was explained to me that it should shift gears at board level (which completely makes sense) I thought I will try it. I learned a lot from Rick at SoftBrake for real
Soft brake is a top-notch company with excellent quality parts. Try their lowered brake pedal - unbelievable change to use of the rear brake. Slightly lower angle is enough to make it so much easier to access the pedal for safer stopping.
New subscriber ..Thanks for the content . I'm going to be pro-active and get my linkage done now as opposed to on the side of the road . Harley should be ashamed of selling their customers expensive motorcycles and give us cheaply manufactures parts.

I like the upgrade. Excellent job on the video and presentation. Does softbrake come with the shifter peg shown in the video? I noticed the rear shifter peg is stock and the front one is custom. I would want both to match for aesthetics. Thanks
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and view. I have to agree that this is a much better system . I can't seem to find neutral half the damn time. It drives me crazy, thinking it's because of cheap stock components
@@tylerfree6238 thanks for sharing I was considering this upgrade but after this set up and adjusting clutch properly I don't think I need it but I might still do it one day. Appreciate the note
Have you a video on how to change the lever at the rear of the linkage, the one at the end of this video you advised to check and tighten at the beginning of the riding season?
Unfortunately I don't have video like that as this is quite involved procedure but I know there is company that manufacture this lever that allow change without clutch/primary disassembly
@@HDVIBE I think key is proper adjustment of this heel shifter so peg is at same level as board when gear should change and yes super easy to find neutral for real
I love the quality of Softbrake products, but I found it very difficult to get the extended shifter arm on to the shaft. I had to remove the shaft and had to pound the hell out of it with a rubber mallet to get the shifter Arm on the shaft. I called Softbrake and they said that was normal due to the powder coating. I thought that was a bit strange, but it all worked out and thankfully, I did not scratch anything in the process. Yours seemed to go on so easily.
I slide mine in and out few times before final install. Maybe powder coated guy got a bit generour on your item. Glad it worked out at the end. After complete install I believe it shouldn't give you any more trouble as coating will adjust.
Softbrake is a great company and the owner will gladly take your call and walk you through any questions you may have about any of their products. I know, because I have their products on my bike and have talked with the owner. GUARANTEED SATISFACTION!!
I wish I knew about this product before I went to harley and added a heel shifter to my Heritage. The heel shifter is not as long as that one, so the end lines up at the edge of my board
Good stuff!! I was having issues shifting to neutral for a while...just got all oils changed to synthetic and while that DID make a difference I'm gonna check my shifting components to make sure all is tight and secure and maybe see if a change like this is in my future. Thanks again!
Can't you just loosen the lock nuts on the adjustment rod and turn it? Seems there would be left hand threads on one end and right hand threads on the other end of the adjustment rod..
I actually never tried that I always remove the shifter rod at least on one end but your approach might work I believe. Let me know as this would be good to know.
@@RidersUnited Right hand threads look strange. Most all Linkages like that or Turn Buckels have normal left hand threads on one and right hand threads on the other. Also I always lube the spherical joints with chain lube..
Would you mind to clarify what you mean by “rectangular angle” I am not clear what you meant. Are you saying arm that goes into trans and shift lever should be vertical and parallel to each other?
It's impossible to achieve a 90 degree angle between the linkage rod and the front shift arm, even when the linkage rod is adjusted to it's shortest length.
@@mattg432 Go to 3:15. The aftermarket rod appears to be the same length as the factory installed rod. Take a look at any late model touring model with factory installed components. They all have the front shift arm angled forward.
Ok, I have to call a bit of BS cause you need to open the piece connecting the linkage it does not fit just as this guy put it on…. I just bought this and well it’s not nearly as smooth as this guy states

Is the adjusting linkage a turnbuckle design?
I thinking the spring will cause damage to the aluminum housing, what’s your opinion on that?
Yes it is turnbuckle design so no issues on this. So far I didn’t experience any issues and everything works as expected

Not good at 17:50 as the best angle between the shifter and the rod is rectangular, on both sides, shifter and gearbox.
