I would stain darker to give a better look of older used boards. But it's such a great idea! Your vases are going in my to-do list! Thanks Whitney you are awesome!
❤❤❤❤ I like the coffee stain. I usually leave mine to soak in the sun for a few hours to darken it up but make sure you use a higher grit sandpaper on the ends or they will get too dark. Make sure you leave it in the sun to dry completely. You don't want any moisture left in it or it will mold
On the coffee staining… If you want it to look more like the inspo piece with variations, just use the coffee grounds and rub it into the grooves of the wood and or the edges It gives some darker variations
Ooooo, I really liked how to tinted your glass jars! Never would have thought of alcohol ink. Genius! I have been a member of Craftsy for a long time. I don't use it as much as I should because I forget about having it😅
Thanks for the video!! Loved all the projects!! Hope everything is going well, and baby is doing great. Can’t wait to make the fountain for our front porch. Love it! 😊
Whitney, I love the fountain, I definitely need to make one! The vases were gorgeous! The lemon wreath is beautiful! Loved the riser, it is stunning!❤️❤️
I’m with you, I love dark wood. I’ve never had success with coffee or tea. I even put it in a pan and cooked it til it’s really dark on the stove, but it’s very hard to get the wood completely dry and I just prefer stain.
I love to use tea on stained linens, but I think that you need to use the coffee more concentrated as a wood stain. I like the idea of using a cheap instant coffee -like from DT. Glad that you are thinking about using some lighter woods also in your house. I like the results of having different shades of wood in a home. Tried having all the same wood tones in my home and the result was kind of boring. You look like you are feeling good, so glad that you are able to keep doing videos. 😊
I do not know if your aware of it but Home Depot has a wood scrap bin. If the piece is under a foot, it is free. I raid the bin often and I collect small pieces of molding to make my own photo frames. I also like corner pieces to resemble a roof line and small blocks of wood to use with the corner piece and I make little houses. I hope you have a Home Depot near you.
@@Whiskeyandwhit Hi Whitney! Actually, you don’t. need to make so much of it. If you put the coffee in just a tiny bit of water, maybe 1/4 cup, you can wipe it on as a stain. It works so much better that way. 🫶🏼
re: coffee-staining wood. I've done this a lot, but I don't use K-cup coffee, I make it in my coffee pot about triple strength or more and leave the wood in for at least 30-60 minutes. That gives you the warm, caramel-color you're looking for. (Loved the patio fountain and fire bowl!)
You do the best projects Whitney!! Thank you for the wonderful videos!! I love the two-tone jar/vases and am going to try them for sure! Thanks for the tip about the paint too!!
Hi Whitney! Love seeing the baby bump today and hope you’re feeling well. To make a cheap custom color of “stain” I’ve used acrylic paint and watered it down. Just swipe it on and rub off what you may not like or to add that aged look. The wood grain really pops using this technique while still adding the color you want.
Hi Whitney. I enjoyed this video. The jars you painted with alcohol are cool. I saw something like this and I wanted to make them. Thanks for Al you tips. I am in awe of the patio furniture you made.that is my goal.
For the coffee/tea staining-I’ve watched glue guns and roses do it many times with much success! Hers end up darker. I like them, but like you, I prefer a darker stain.
I love the fire bowl and the two tone vases. I signed up for Craftsy, I’m planning to watch and jewelry and cake decorating classes! Thanks for the share! ❤
Hi Whitney, Rebekah here from Arlington, VA. It's 5:45 am on July 19th and I am getting ready to go to work. I am a GM employee have been in the Parts Dept 20 years as of 6/5. Right now I am doing a $6,000 field scrap return where the parts we have not sold for. Up to a year and GM does not want back goes into the various dumpsters. Metal into metal bins outside and plastic trashed unless it's bumpers that goes into plastic. I am always on the look out for engine oil seals as they are copper and I make necklaces out of them first sealing then with a spray. I make jewerly out of silver colored washers they sell really nice at my 3 day November sale. I do not like waste. Before I forget, for your wood tray you made, k love natural wood but I also loooooove Golden Oak by Min Wax. A light coat will be slightly darker than your coffee stain. My Dad turned me onto Holden Oak in 1973. When our family moved her from Calif we came to a house where upstairs in ever room were cut out alcoves. He made bookcases that were snug into each alcove and he stained them all Holden Oak. Mine was a cool shape how he made it and I had it until my last move in 2018 but it became very rickity and somehow I lost one of the shelf pieces. My Mom passed away July 2021 from cancer and I packed up her e tire house of 31 years . I have the Ethan Allen bedroom set, living room and dining room set, many antiques and the bookcase my Dad made her I have in my kitchen. My home is 610 SQ FT and I literally only have 3 cabinets in the kitchen. My turkey roaster is under the kitchen sink, pie pans in the fridge, pots in the fridge. I have the bookcase in one kitchen wall with metal baking dishes , my candy molds , all my Mom's cookbooks and her Oster food processor. He left all the stain on girba long time which is a dark golden and I love it. Each bookcase very detailed with trim in the sides. I never reached my goal of buying my first house when I was 25,30,40,50 but this Fall I am very close. A 2 bedroom home with a small yard in North Arlington is $808,000 but a first floor condo, 2 bedroom with a small patio outside in South Arlington is under $400,000. I do want a yard to have a little fountain and can do wood working projects. I have a few tools from working at the lumber yard many years in the 1980s thru 1991. When my Mom and Pop lumber yard closed the employees got to divvy up the woodworking equipment out in the shop. My boss gave me a chop saw, a scroll saw he gave me a brand new Makita drill/sander still in the carrying case still in plastic. I got a miter box but all that in storage as I haven't a place to use now. I cannot wait to have my own little yard rnought space for a small veggie garden and to make things. I haven't had a TV since 2018 I love to read about submarines, the civil war, refinishing furniture, I have been beading since I was 9, love to see. Every year I am involved in a 3 day craft sale and in August I will start making all my crafts. With not much space in my tiny apartment I try to just make fabric items and jewelry. I always love all your crafts. Fondly, Rebekah
Hi Whitney! Loved seeing your baby belly, hopefully you're feeling better 💕 Thank you so much for sharing these amazing dupes. I loved all of them. Your videos are never long enough for me, lol! Take care and I can't wait for your next video!
@@Whiskeyandwhit Yes, it's 💯 so worth being sick for the outcome 💞 I was sick the first 3 months 24/7 for my son. But for my daughter I was sick 24/7 for the full 9 months and still had my period for the first 3 months. But I have 2 amazing children, so worth it! 💞

I like the fire pot for the table, and the riser from scrape wood. I have a few pieces of oak from making treads for some steps I might use to make one or two. Thanks for all you do.
Great Diy's, my favorite was the firebox. When you are dying with tea or coffee it must be hot or you won't get a good color. I tink you should make just a little bit darker.

They sell small craft paint bottles of gel wood stain on the isle with the regular craft paint. I'm like you and can't see buying a whole big can of stain. For small projects these are usually enough. Love these ideas for great things at a more affordable price.
Oh my gosh Whitney, what a coincidence. Last night I was looking at s'mores kits to buy for a fundraiser I was having. I was shocked that the little ones called for alcohol. I was SO happy to see your video and know that yes its OK and Yes it works. As always I loved everyone of them and of course want to try many of them. OH! and it was great to see the can you used for stone. We buy the stone to spray on the terra cotta elephants my husband and I make. Nice to see a cheaper alternative. Our stone is expensive but don't think its hit 17 bucks like yours has.
I love water fountains. I use Tim Holtz alcohol ink and you do not need to use alcohol with it. Maybe if you don't want a vibrant color to tone it down. Love all the thrift flips on the vases. All great. Have a awesome day.
