Not only did I learn a new way to do a carousel (that seems easier to control than what I've done before) but I learned new shortcuts I didn't realize existed.
Man thanks for this! This has added really slick motion to the project. We have a character swiping through a few icons and taping on a few as they come to rest. Really really cool way to do this as there is so much flexibility due to the expression. As a note to any beginners. If you are struggling to make it work make sure you have your layers parented to the correct controls. AND ALWAYS NAME YOUR LAYERS. Being organised will help you in the long run.
Im so glad this helped you out. I'm proud of this tutorial. I created this from scratch and it's very easy to use and you can add as many or few as you want. It's awesome to know it's being used in projects!
Love your tutorial. I’m still having issues getting the front most object stay in focus when I get to the camera focus section. The back most object stays focused and the balance is blurred. I’m doing something wrote despite the 10+ times I tried. Any ideas?
Thanks so much for this brilliant video. I've been trying it out and as soon as i start playing with the focus everything gets blurred. Any advice on this?
As a complete noob, this was so easy to follow! Even easier than your previous video from a year ago which I just watched. Also signed up to your Udemy course because of this! The only issue I have is getting the camera focus on the nearest icon to the camera. It's currently focusing on the icon furthest from it. Let's see if I can figure that out. Or if someone has a suggestion feel free to comment.
Solved it. I simply adjusted the Slider in the Controls window to reflect the -600 instead of 600, which brought the camera into focus on the front icon!!!
Hi Jeff, thank you so much for this tutorial, I love the flexibility that the expressions give me. I was wondering if there is a way using an expression for when the picture gets to the front/middle would come forward or scale up or both. While looking for a way to do this I read in a forum someone wanted to do the same plus increase the opacity when the picture gets to the front. This could be an idea for another tutorial.
Great tutorial. I have a question though. I'm trying to figure out how to make the objects rotate around a fixed object, so the objects go behind the fixed object, then come in front as they come around? I'm not sure how to make that happen. I've played around with z values on the fixed object, but the other objects still come around to the front. If you see this an have a solution, that would be great!
As long as the fixed object is in the right spot in Z-space, you should be good to go. Check out the top view of your comp and make sure the fixed object is in the middle of the carousel.
@@7MinuteAETutorials thanks for responding. So, it is in the center, but the other objects still rotate in front. Do I need to pair the fixed object to one of the nulls?
@@7MinuteAETutorials seriously dude, i was in a crunch trying to figure out just how to do this, and you'd crack up if you saw the absurd amount of keyframing i was doing before watching this. THANK YOU

Thank you very much, you helped me a lot because I don't do video editing, but I had to do something similar and it really helped me a lot and I wanted to thank you 🙏
using it for the second year in a row, for the same event! Still saying massive thanks to you broda x For soem reason I foudn your instructions super eassy to follow this year (as opposed to last haha)
Hi Great tutorial, but I wanna ask, my Depth of Field is set "On", and aperture also already been set, but why the camera focus is on the back instead of front? Thanks
LOVE LOVE LOVE this tutorial. Thank you so much I really appreciate the time and effort you put into creating these - there so helpful and easy to follow. Actually gutted I didn't come across you earlier haha subscribed immediately!! :)
dude, I instantly subscribed! thanks for this :) can u help me with a bug I think? I'm trying to add 2 more media, using the control copy and linking everything as per your instructions, but my new layers (9 and 10) aren't placing where they should. They overlap with the controller I copied originally :(
First, thanks so much for the sub - I really appreciate it. For your issue, I'd need to see a screenshot or your project file. The way this is rigged, you can add as many as you want and they should instantly update as long as you follow the steps.
@@7MinuteAETutorials my pleasure man! can't wait for more tutorials :) I figured it out - I was copy/pasting instead of duplicating and that was randomly glitching the index formula.
@@BogdanAlexeTV Yeah, it's. a super precise process. Anything out of order and it messes it up. Glad you figured it out! I'll be uploading my next tutorial today or tomorrow. Hope it helps.
Hi Sir Jeff. I'm trying out this effect and along the way I had to stop for when I click Separate Dimensions, the XYZ won't have parent options so I cannot link it which is required in the next steps. Hope you could enlighten me how to work my way around it? Thank you very much.
Update: Hi Sir Jeff. Me again. After several trial and error, the solution was hold and click the y rotation clock on its left and the expression option as well as the parent icon will appear. Again, thank you Sir for this great tutorial.
Something's missing. After two hours of redoing this it's not worked for me at all. The images don't distance evenly and the 360/? doesn't work. Thanks though.
Try pulling in my project file and see if it works from there. I haven't had anyone else have an issue with this. If it doesn't work for you after you pull in my project file, let me know and I'll take another look at it.
@@bluphoenixrisingmediallc2742 This is a tricky one because everything has to be done in order and linked up perfectly or it won't work. Even one wrong expression and it throws the whole thing off. Good luck! Let me know if you have any more issues.

If the distance slider is set to positive, then the focus is set on the back, when it is negative (as in your tutorial), then focus goes to the front.
Man thank you was so frustrated
Still can’t get it to focus on the front! Please help
Great tutorial. Took me a while before I got the aperture right. Turned out I didn't turn on the 'Depth of Field' option in the Camera layer..
Great tutorial - thank you.

Can the opacity of the background objects also be linked to the distance? Like the fade?
