Wonderful work, you made me homesick for Manhattan. This combination of tools shines in your hands, I look forward to seeing more of your creativity as you become comfortable with them. Well done indeed.
too good... movie grade if you ask me... very nice.. I would like to do the same here in Finland. My osmo action has not much charm at all :) but if this lense can fit an A5100 sony with an adapter, I will be happy
Thanks so much! I Was shooting mostly almost wide open and not higher than 1600 ISO if I remember correctly. NYC is bright enough ;) PP is an adapted version of PP8 with Cine4 and I believe I used some Impulz LUTs.
Very cool! I've been wanting to do this exact same setup! Creates some beautiful filmic images. My favorite shot honestly is at :10 The framing and composition is just perfect. Did you ever feel like you needed to use a diopter for close focusing??
@@Joey_Helms Wow, that's pretty cool that you didn't need it! The shot at :27 seems like it's pretty close up with a very shallow depth of field, nice to know the diopter wasn't need for it. Was there any vignetting on the Helios 58mm at full frame?
Well done! Got the SLR Anamorphot my self. Haven't tried it yet. Bought it even though a lot of videos here on YT looks really out of focus, and I thought maybe it was the adapter it self, but U proved not only with this how sharp it can be, that Chicago footage looked really clean. Just wanted to show my appreciation. Used rangefinder? Diopters? Anyway, have a nice one. Keep it up. Cheers
Love this footage. What did your complete lens setup look like? Helios 44-2 for the taking lens, then obviously the anmorphet 50 1.33x. But were you using a single focus solution, the SLR Rangefinder? Did you use any diopters for these shots? edit: also how was the Helios adapted to the Sony, With a Variable ND adapter or a dummy?
Thanks Alex! The set up was as simple as your described... Helios + Anamorphot, no range finder or diopters. I have used the diopters on other projects though, for any sort of mid shot or close up you need them.
Hey, just a little confused about the Picture Profile. I want to know the exact picture profile you have configured your camera to in this video if you can remember.
Hey great setup! Footage looks great too. I'm dying to try my hands on anamorphic soon. May I know what font did you use at the end of the video for the titles?
This is beautiful, I'm trying to find the best affordable anamorphic adapter for my a7iii but just can't decide..I'd be using it with the helios, but also with the 50mm and 85mm
Nice video! Did you use the anamorphot 40 compact or 50 1.33x? I was wondering what your thoughts are on the adapter. Ease of use, still using it, etc. Would love to hear from you!
THANKS! I used the 50 1.33x - I would say it is not an everyday tool but can better be used if you are in a controlled scenario vs. run&gun documentary work. Frankly, there are likely better things you can invest in first but it is a fun way to explore anamorphic filming.
+Roberto Rivera totally agree - WB is such a pain. I find shooting at night the a7sii actually gives you really nice colours, it's during daytime in uncontrolled environments where it's getting real tricky
I have a few step down rings that you can buy in a set to allow the filter size to match. Luckily the 44-2 has usually a very sturdy metallic filter screw so that the weight of the anamorphot is no problem
wow amazing amazing stuff! i'm looking to buy the anamorphot for my a7s2 but wondering how it will work. with the helios 44, you need to have an adapter for the helios to attach to the e mount of the sony, then you attach the anamorphot to the front element of the helios? i also have an 85mm Rokinon which look dope with this anamorphot. what's the widest you can go? is 50 really the west? i have a 35mm Rokinon that i would want to try...
+Carlo Timothy you got it man, adapter to e mount for the Helios and then anamorphot screwed on the front of the Helios. You have a certain focal length spectrum that works with that adapter without vignetting. For FF cameras it is something around 35-65mm I believe (check their website) the challenge you will run into with rokinon is the size of front element of the lens. It is I think limited to 50mm.

This is beautiful. So perfectly captures the beauty of NYC, not just the usual bustling and lights, but the quiet and unknown too. Incredible work :).
+Fiona Lam thanks so much Fiona :)
Wow, it ist Breathtaking. The simplicity of the footage is incredible, but so beautiful!!! Thank you
Thanks a lot :) appreciate it

+theweeklyonline thanks so much :) glad I could evoke some emotions :)
Very amazing! Really shows NY's character ❤️
+ItzJul thanks man!
This footage is absolutely beautiful! Everything is tack sharp and I absolutely LOVE the color grading! Very well done!
This video has so much character and story in it, it’s amazing! I love what you are putting out! Keep smashing it ma man!
Great exposure and color grading .... nice work ...
This is beautiful. All the feels. All of them.
Love the color, the lens flare, the bokeh. Soooooo cinematic. Love your work
Thanks a ton Bao!

Wonderful as ever!
I have never been to Manhatten, but I think you caught nearly every aspect of the city. Great diversity. :)
+Lenard Sama thanks so much :) though having been to NYC many times this video displays only a fraction of the diversity the city offers. :)
Joey Helms I'd love to see more of the city...Maybe in a part 2 ^^'
+Lenard Sama check my channel there are some more NYC videos covering other parts of the city (though mostly Manhattan ha)
Hey Joey! I was wondering where your drone video of Chicago went. It was my favorite video on your channel!
Beautiful shots and beautiful song!
+Chris C thanks a million
love the video! Which F and ISO were you shooting? Which PP profile you had used and any LUT applied?
Thanks so much! I Was shooting mostly almost wide open and not higher than 1600 ISO if I remember correctly. NYC is bright enough ;) PP is an adapted version of PP8 with Cine4 and I believe I used some Impulz LUTs.
@@Joey_Helms your video is incredibly crispy and sharp for being shoot at F2.0. I have an Helios 44-7 on my A7 II and it's not as sharp wide open
absolutely amazing!
Amazing video I have just came back from nyc to Chile! And I am already missing New York 😭 this makes me feel like I’m still there ♥️
+DanielaUrbina thanks Daniela :) happy you like it and it evokes memories!
This is stellar. Very clean. Did you have any trouble getting your anamorphic flares to show up in camera? Did you have to boost it in post?
Thanks! All in camera, no boosting in post. But to get proper flares you really have to have a light source hitting your lens.
@@Joey_Helms Yeah, tried that.....still nothing. Any other ideas?
Great video. Your shots convinced me to complete my order. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks a ton Chadwin! Regarding diopter - have maybe used it once when it came to close up work but all these shots were taken without it

Thanks a ton! It's a great tool of you spend time figuring it out and also put it on a solid taking lens. No rangefinder, no diopters ;)
Beautiful footage - very inspiring! I hope I can put a reel this nice together one day.
+EastCoastReggae.com thanks a million :)
I feel Inspired watching this, Really great job !!
Thanks a ton!

Beautiful cinematography!
+Fotodiox Inc thanks so much :) any new products you may want me to try out? ;)

This is beautiful, I'm trying to find the best affordable anamorphic adapter for my a7iii but just can't decide..I'd be using it with the helios, but also with the 50mm and 85mm
Thanks so much Luka! This adapter I think is the best legit option out there
@@Joey_Helms thank you!!! I'm for sure getting one:) Oh, and, do you by any chance remember in which picture profile you shot these night scenes?
Sick! Gonna buy this one as well
It's fun :)
Wow amazing videos i cannot stopped to seeing wow in 30 days l will go to new york and this video show essence
+voncocina ha thanks so much! There is another NYC video on my channel that may add to your anticipation
Stunning! Damned that u got only a hand full of subscribers, ur vds r amazing!
I was going to try the same combo! Thank you for this video!

love your colors, very nice
How beautiful, congratulations
+TecnoAdictos thanks so much!!!
Which lut did you use? love it!
I believe a base correction and then the 'M31' REC 709 Look LUT.
Beautiful work !
+Shiv thanks a ton
Looks super cool, great job. Slog2?
+Roberto Rivera thanks man - cine4 with gamma of Slog3 :)
great job on colors man, the white balance i fid tricky on these cameras. if you dont nail it, the colors tend to be a bit off imo.
+Roberto Rivera totally agree - WB is such a pain. I find shooting at night the a7sii actually gives you really nice colours, it's during daytime in uncontrolled environments where it's getting real tricky
What do you mean by cine4 with gamma of slog3? Its either one of the other, do you mean slog-3 with S-gamut3 for color mode?
The helios 44-2 filter size is 49 what adapter did you use to thread it with the anamorphot (62mm filter size)?
I have a few step down rings that you can buy in a set to allow the filter size to match. Luckily the 44-2 has usually a very sturdy metallic filter screw so that the weight of the anamorphot is no problem
I love it, man! What did you use to adapt the Helios to the A7s II?
+IbrahimSaid thanks! a very simple adapter that came with it
Hi ,nice video !
And very good colour ! How did you do this?I mean about colour )
Thanks! I have a colour grading tutorial on my channel that’s a good starting point :)
It's just so beautiful
What lens did you use ? Looks very clean in the night scenes
+Jetspot Networks thanks! Highlighted lens combo at the end of the video ;)
So that's a 58mm with the SLR Magic Anamorphic 1.33 adapter? How wide can you go before vignetting on that adapter?
Yes - on an FF sensor vignetting kicks in around 40mm. On the SLR Magic's website is a table with the specs for more details
@@Joey_Helms So anything after 40 is good, in theory?
Yes sir, but double check SLR Magic's website 🤙
amazing grade
Nice color. What PP was used?
+chris fox thanks a lot PP8 with adjusted Gamma of cine 4
Joey Helms sweet. So you just changed pp8 from slog3 to Cine 4 an kept the Sgammet.3cine ? Looks great. I just ordered a 44-2 for my a6500 :-)
+chris fox it's a dope lens - you will have fun with it!

What size lense filter do I purchase for this lense?
this is sick! nice job u got here!
Cheers
Impresionante, estoy fascinado... Gracias por este tipo de contenidos.
+Edwin Blanco gracias Edwin! Feel free to share it with friends :)
Can we have the LUT, what is the name? Great Job !
+Bilal thanks a ton! It mainly manual colour correction and then subtly the M31 LUT spliced in. Hope that helps!
Amazing video!
+R CERVANTES merci
Great work
+Simon Bodzioch thank you :)

+Mike D thanks a ton :)
Nice job - did you pay Bon Iver for the use of that amazing track?
+John Griffith thanks :) bon iver gets all as revenue :)
