It’s funny, every time a Peter McKinnon video dropped, I would stop everything I was doing to watch. But know when a Micah Powell video drops I’ll watch it before a Peter McKinnon video🤯
I bought the Helios this year and it has been my favorite lens by far. I also use Joel's phantom LUTS and swear by them. My coloring process is very similar to yours aside from my doing it all in premiere, but I want to move to Davinci this upcoming year. Glad your Helios vid got so much love!
I am one of the 350k that saw the said video.I applaud you de mystification of grading.because truthfully it is very simple,hi -end Lo - end you name it.What you are pointing at is ALWAYS the most important element. And your study of this young woman is beautiful. She real incredible charisma, really very special. Its the way she looks at the the lense,at you,at us the audience.Very rare the quality she has,and you captured it superbly.
So look... I'm gonna be honest... The 44-2 is great. Your original vid is what got me researching the lens and eventually buying one yesterday. But to be clear - the color in the video is at least 90% of the magic. #slowclap
I came here after your popular and outstanding video shot with the helios 44-2 (which I am now trying to get). That's a pretty good explanation for a beginner like me coming from photo editing. I have so much to learn in video color grading world, this is scary and intimidating!
Cool video! I do have a note/question. When you select the skin colors with the qualifier and show the selection, your video goes back to S-Log color space. So when you reference the skin line indicator on the vectorscope, you get to see what the colors looks like in S-Log, right? Not in REC709 after Joel's conversion (which is probably doing something to the colors, to match with the ARRI look). Maybe there is a solution to this, but I can't figure out an easy workflow to overcome this..
Broo. Much appreciated. That effort. Commended. Pls broooo, give us sample footage of that shot. For us as a beginner can practice color grade real footages. 🙇🙇 Some of us cant afford to buy such cameras. Thanks bro
Beautiful work, so happy you did this video! What I'm wondering is, how did you arrive to the decision to tone down the greens and tint the yellows to orange? Did you have a specific color harmony scheme in mind, that you moved towards?
Hey! Thanks for watching another one of my videos! so the way I came to that conclusion as I wanted all of the yellow trees to pop and stand out. and I accomplished that by toning down all of the other colors excluding skin tones. Since green was the most prominent, I cranked that all the way down and instantly made a big difference!
Great tutorial! Quick question regarding phantom luts--are you shooting in Sgamut3cine slog3? I have tried that color mode with my A7C with Slog2 but I'm getting weird orangish tones vs. the default sgamut color mode, but I'm guessing the A7siii solves all these issues...your tutorial also reminds me that I really need to learn DaVinci and stop using Premiere for color grading haha
for sure, I know the a7c has older color science, but im not sure what the small differences would be. I was shooting in sgamutcine.3 in slog3! dude you have to switch to davinci!!!!! haha!!
@@MicahPowell Beautiful footage. You have good vision. Do not be stuck in here. Try Motion Picture. I mean Pro Film. You friend is very photogenic. Good luck.
hey there, i have a question... maybe a noob question, i know. Why is so good this lens? I mean, you have got the skills, a beautiful model, and the colors... the video was Slog, so plain.... it came toghether thanks to your editing skills. Sooo... why we should buy this lens, if its not giving me better color? (Wich is what i hate from Sony, the colors). Also, i wonder if it is possible to take frames out of a video like this and just make it a photo. I think the quality is suberb and nobody would know that it was not actually a photo? Great job, subscribed here!
You know the reason that video was so popular isn't because of the video, right? It sucks but welcome to the reality of how to get popular on social media. Keep using her to build and soon enough you won't have to.

Learning to color grid video is certainly a daunting task. One that I feel I’ve only scratched the surface of. But hey, keep at it you got this!!
Phatom luts are amazing and a great tool for those of us that aren't color specialists. Loved the simple approach you took!
They really are! thank you man!!! bro so i got a gaming laptop a little while back, so we should hop on some valorant sometime!
@@MicahPowell ayyy, let’s run it! I’ll shoot you a DM on IG!

Keep it up bro! 😎
Your channel is a pleasant discovery was looking for a descent sony grade - nice job
I first saw these clips in a story that was overexposed. I wonder if it was a reupload because they looks great here.
Thanks for this! New subscriber
Bros sorry about the horrible breathing noises….must fix
Bro once again I'm not listening to a single word you're saying.❤️
Edit: I added a heart to not sound mean.
♥
Thanks for this! Can you tell me which camera body /lens mount/ adapter combo you used? Cheers
What lens did you use for the outdoor scene here?
The Helios 44-2 haha!
Did you get the one on E-Bay that comes with adapter? or they sell a lens meant for E-Mount? Great videos btw, you made me hunt for this lens

Which lavalier are you using?
Hey! So sorry on the late reply, I use the Tascam dr10-L
i gotta figure out how to get the m42 screw mount un attached from my 44-2
Would you share a link to the lens? I might be missing but there are different ones. I will appreciate it.. thanks
Do you feel for establishing shots with the Helios, you have to stand back quite a bit due to the telephoto focal lengths?
Helious 44 -2 where and which version can we get for Sony cameras can you please help

Do you add a crop to a video? or does the lens shoot wider?
Yeah! I shoot in 18:9 which is slightly wider. It’d be 3840x1920
What screen have you been working on.
I use the lg ergo 32 inch! It’s a wonderful well priced display. But for checking color I’ll look at my MacBook screen

The lens has charector with the depth of field, if you want colour maybe buy a Sony 50mm F1.8
Does anyone know where i can get a helios 44-2 in india??
mic? loved how you could barely hear the bird.
now it has 590K views
Darren Mostyn and Kullen Kelley are the two MVPs in regards on color tutorials. Dunnadidit and theqazman are not professional colorists.
Is the girls, sorry man.

"I'm not a colorist"
