Hey hey, I'm the one behind the Fish are Friends capsule! I made that as a test when time capsules were first being implemented and playtested, and it's always a treat to see people react to them and what they do with the fish. Glad you enjoyed them!
Bro he ate Peter
Also some other dude did it so yeah.
@@dr.light64- The other person made the first capsule, I made the Fish are Friends capsule.
yeah im sure he did enjoy them......
Thats cool!
He literally goes right up to a crabsquid, "oh, these things seem chill." nothing happens. When I went there they sent out a freaking emp, broke my seamoth, and killed me
Fr those things are scary
they are relatively chill as long as you dont shine lights on them
i lost my seamoth once by having it right on the crush depth but not breaking while exploring the degasi habitat 500m and a crabsquid attacked it and pushed it down, causing it to be under crush depth and well, you know
He just has a good gaming chair
Hate those guys
NO FUCKING WAY THATS MY TIME CAPSULE
Woo!
My condolances...
RIP to your friends :(((
RIP to your poor fish
oh no
One of the most frightening things in the game imo is when you scan the Ghost Leviathan in the Lost River and realize that that one is a juvenile.
Players when starting subnautica: "oh noes, it's getting dark, better hide to my pod and cry till morning"
players at the end of subnautica: *spidermanning off reaper leviathans*
I started killing them. I killed 1 ghost leviathan for practice. I lost count after killing 10 or so reapers. Id id this because I'm fucking terrified of them. So i came to the conclusion "they can't hurt when they're dead"
NICE
Clearly, self-discipline is not enough to counteract the sense of limitless power from piloting the prawn suit.
@@Missingno_Miner The prawnsuit isnt limitless. It's just my pick to get the job done faster.
@@Dyrawp Taking the thylacine approach huh
Never has any piece of media so accurately captured the utter dread of thalassophobia as well as subnautica. The scariest part about being alone is finding out that you're not.
“if you can hear the roar, the reaper can see you.”
"if you cant hear them, fear even more"
@@postonian425 There are actually two roars. One it does normally and another, slightly different one once it sees you.
“God save you if you heard something wandering nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you”
@@ruhenshamraaj8728 no, he was referring to the fact that, lore-wise at least, reaper leviathan roars double as sonar, so that was a literal statement. (In terms of gameplay though it doesn't function like that. I dont recall if the reason was they couldnt get it to work properly, or because they COULD get it to work and decided it would be unfair)
Five words that strike terror into the hearts of any Subnautica fan:
Warning: Entering Ecological Dead Zone.
The message you get when entering the dunes probably causes even more terror
I forget why, please explain. I haven't played the game.
@@ThatOneWeirdFlex Bit of a spoiler here
The message is something like "warning, detecting multiple leviathan class lifeforms in this area, are you sure whatever you're doing is worth it?"
The dunes biome is filled with Reaper Leviathans
@@ThatOneWeirdFlex the ecological dead zone is filled with ghost leviathans. and it's just a dark empty abyss. pretty creepy if you've played the game lol
“Warning, several leviathan class predators are in the area, are you sure whatever you’re doing is worth it?”
the fact that he immediately starts calling the sea emperor "mom" is great
I dont care what you say this is probably one of the most terrifying games ever made. While also being one of the chillest games
Its not that bad
Not terrifying but it can be a little tense sometimes
@@fakeperson2129 have you played it 😭
For me, it went from chill survival to terrifying but I had to do it, then I got a sense of being part of a bigger ecosystem at the end. That was the magic for me.
It helps that it uses terror well, instead of always relying on cheap jumpscares.
You can see any leviathan coming if you're paying attention (except for the occasional times where they just swim out of the wall...) The game doesn't just drop them on you to get cheap scares. It lets you know the leviathans are there, and lets your own mind create the terror for it.
Paranoia about fish is a hella effective tactic.
Ant: Is serious but also scared in the game
(12:54) Also Ant: “Dragon deez-“
same applies to 23:04
Also him eating the fish. I almost started laughing out loud, especially when I saw the comment of the guy who made it.
Everyone was obsessed with how cute the cuttle fish was at 36:14 and then I just see “EAT HIM” 😭
“‘Why is it a dead zone?’ Probably because that thing ate everything!” Is my favorite line ever.
No matter how many times I’ve seen a leviathan they still always scare the crap out of me.
fr 😭
I stopped being scared after scanning them with nothing but a sea glide and scanner
I remember climbing out of the blood kelp zone after my first time seeing a ghost leviathan feeling a bit on edge. As soon as I got out of this crater to open sea, a sea shark swims by. I turn to track it's movement.....and get grabbed by a Reaper Leviathon, made me scream at 4am
It’s not that they necessarily scare me but it’s the way they pop up on screen that scares me 😂
Unless it's the shadow leviathans from below zero. Those things just stopped being scary once you got the defense perimeter on your seatruck
that 2-second sand edit at 5:07 was underrated. Such a cool touch but so easy to overlook
IK RIGHT also 29:55
for real it was so smooth came looking for this comment
I noticed and even asked myself if it was not an edit but a game feature
Bruh I completely missed it
this editor is a master of subtlety, only adding small gags that build on the ongoing conversation without distracting from the streamer.
Excellenté

Thank you, chat member whose name I cannot read because my internet is garbage, for the message “it finna eat you”
Truly inspiring words

Seeing SmallAnt freak out and scream so much is so weird. Even in stressful challenge he's usually cold and calculated, at most shouting with joy or getting serious. Never have I seen this much fear in his face until this game.
Having a fear of the sea does that, lol
Subnautica has its own type of horror, at best humbling
@Dinglebottom the IIII Well yeah but that doesn't mean he hasn't been in stressful situations with those happy games.
Lmao same. Seeing smug, over-confident Smallant screech in fear because of some big scary fish or something is immensely funny to me
@@TheAdvertisement yeah but not as stressful as being attacked by a reaper leviathan
This game actually goes from 0 to 100 in a heartbeat, its jarring and your constantly in anticipation of it.
The potential this game has to produce severe anxiety is amazing, no other game, even the sequel, is able to do such.
The game is so good bc it provides terror. This makes it seem like something is gonna jump out and scare you but it doesn’t but you still feel like it’s going to happen. This is why it’s a good game, it provides terror not horror
You play Subnautica for the gameplay and terror, but Below Zero for the story and characters
At least, that’s my thoughts
i can think of other games that go to 0-100 and do it pretty damn good but this game does it best as long as u go to the more dangerous areas not knowing whats there
You're*
He should play the sequel tho
15:26
Message: Hello! I can't take my friends with me in the ship so could you care for them? Here is there names and what they eat.
Smallant: LMAO! Let me add some soy sauce to this!
I love how he went from terrified of everything to then riding around a reaper like a cowboy
“What is a wave without the ocean? A beginning without an end. They are different but they go together. Now you go among the stars, and I fall among the sand. We are different but we go together.”
Hearing that ending gives me absolute chills to this day. This game is a masterpiece.

@@mrskulliousis wtf is your problem?
“This is story about a little wave, bobbing along in the ocean, having a grand old time. He’s enjoying the wind and the fresh air - until he notices the other waves in front of him, crashing against the shore.”
“‘My God, this is terrible,’ the wave says ‘Look what’s going to happen to me!’”
“Then along comes another wave. It sees the first wave, looking grim, and it says to him, ‘Why do you look so sad?’ “
“The first wave says, ‘You don’t understand! We’re all going to crash! All of us waves are going to be nothing! Isn’t it terrible?’ “
“The second wave says, ‘No, you don’t understand. You’re not a wave, you’re part of the ocean.’”
“Part of the ocean,” he says. “Part of the ocean.”

But mustache isn't one, so im fine with him always commenting
This video has shown me the 5 stages of Smallant's screams:
1. The Wimper
2. The Scream
3. The Scream, but louder
4. The Jumpscare
5. The Jumpscare, but higher
Great editing
Its Really Nice
nice
Not found this task.
Very good. Excellent game. Thanks.
Fantastic
For anyone who hasn't played subnautica and thinks Smant's overreacting it is the most terrifying thing ever the game makes you feel apart of it when your playing and everything's scary I highly recommend it .
I'm not at all afraid of the ocean but this game does it right I cant imagine how bad it is for someone afraid of the ocean
Seeing the Ecological Dead Zone in videos I thought it looked really unsettling but kinda cool. Actually reaching the Dead Zone myself, all I could think about was the damn near endless amount of things I'd currently rather do than swim off that cliff.
Never played Subnautica, but seeing SmallAnt play this game is great, especially since he is clearly scared easily by it
I don't know why, but this man makes any game he plays look really interesting.
Play it
I thought people were being scared easily as well… and then I played the game myself and almost crapped my pants.
Remember that time he went swimming near the huge broken space ship? Yeah the area near there is infested with leviathans
All of us that knew that were stressed out just watching him calmly swim around
Subnautica is a great game best experienced, preferably blind. It is 200% worth playing
Suspense and the alienated nature of the sea life is what makes it so terrifying. Still get those chills.
"Detecting multiple leviathan-class lifeforms in the area. Are you sure whatever you're doing is worth it?"
As someone studying to become a marine biologist, I can tell you the stuff that's swimming down in the deep sea of our own planet is sometimes equally if not more alien looking. There might not be any fire spitting or telepathic squid-crustaceans, but we do have giant squid that grows up to 2-13 m (39-43 ft)
@@Don_Occounsure if youre talking about this one but the magnapinna (big fin squid) is so alien and fascinating
Ant seeing ghost: it's friendly?
me: Famous last words of Ryley
The amount of detail in this video (as well as the other Subnautica videos) is 👌 Like the sand going into the crafter at 5:07 is so seamless I was genuinely confused why that sprite was in the game for a second lol
5:07 Something about the added detail of the sand getting squashed and stretched is great.
You know Tanner is Canadian when he says thanks anytime the Prawnsuit welcomes him aboard
Like how the ghost leviathan he was trying to scan was just a freaking baby of all things. His last stream on playing this game he actually saw the older version of it when he went to the dead zone(meaning he went beyond the map border. Basically where there’s nothing). Love this game and love the content
I'm yet to find a game more utterly terrifying than subnautica, even though it's not classed as horror
I wish he had taken the cyclops down through the lost river. That was my favorite part of the game, really getting to use silent running, emergency speed, and the decoy torpedoes to full effect, and getting to experience some of the damage states of the cyclops where it fills with water. So many cool details in this game.
Damm yeah its amazing he got the cyclops into the lava zone without going through the river. Definetly something possible and theres definetly not footage of him taking the cyclops through the river in the video
He didn’t even get to experience the best song in the game when your cyclops is in the process of sinking
Plus the fire music. Gotta love that.
@@ultmateragnarok8376LITERALLY fire music 😭my cyclops “Saturn” went up in flames but i stayed with it o7
"crabsquid. these things seem chill"
*internally screaming*
Alien: "thanks for the help, but you got everything done right?" Smant: "oh no I forgor to make moon orbit!" Alien: "seems like a you problem so I'mjust gonna leave."
that dream just shows that smallant must stay as a small ant to keep the world intact
The edits for these videos are wild. Lots of little details that just make the experience a whole lot better, from the little accessibility things like making the dialog boxes or other small details more noticeable to gags like the sand blocks when he crafts glass. Props to the editors as always
"See me dragon th-"
_-SmallAnt, each and every time_
This is such a fun and exciting playthrough for me to watch because it really reminds me of my first playthrough, albeit with less alt f4s
it's kind of like watching my younger self, in a way
"It's like the only character in the game that has talked to me"
Lifepods: am i a joke to you?
I'm still heartbroken about the fish that Smant ate. They were innocent, and their lives were ruthlessly taken.
Ya know that the capsules are randomly placed in everyone’s world, I bet more than 10k of them are eaten
Small Ant is a monster x)
NOM NOM NOM
I lost my shit laughing 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yum 😋
honestly one of the best games of the decade. i never did get around to playing the sequel, but the original is in a league of it's own. an amazing and unique experience through and through, i always love watching people experience what it has to offer for the first time and i know it's one of those gems of a game that will keep giving to new players forever and ever.
I envy the people who still get to experience the game with little to no game knowledge. This is one of those games where, the less you know about it the better...
@@KaiTheMemeKing ive literally never seen any gameplay of this game before watching ant for 5 minutes then looking at the comments. Should i play the first or second one first if i were to play just one of them?
@@levililnoir525 most people prefer the first one and i would recommend the first aswell. It allows for greater exploration because in the sequel it feeks like you are being told what to do whereas in the first game you have to explore to find things, with hints being given throughout
@@qPalee thanks. Im sold. It’s only like 30$ too. Gonna buy it.
The sequel is more like a large DLC. It uses the exact same basegame but you're playing on another map.
the poor guy wrote a whole storyline about his pet fish and ant just goes and eats them
also 20:44 broke me
I get you dude, even going to the beach on a calm day is terrifying, just seeing and feeling how quickly the ground drops off and seeing how far the water goes on for.
From watching LetsPlayers, Speedrunners, and playing it myself I don’t really find it scary anymore.
Oh but if you show me a reaper slowly fading into view through the muck I might as well have never been there in the first place
Watching him learn about Stalkers stealing his camera’s is so funny.
12:54 that cutoff is absolutely perfect your editors are insane
14:03 is actually the edge of the map, it drops down to about 8000 meters. The PDA says its an ecological dead zone, but it's incorrect for obvious reasons. The leviathan is actually there to deter you from going any farther.
Is there anything else or just the leviathan? What if you were to explore down there?
@@ThatOneWeirdFlex it's the edge of the map, you cant explore 8000 meters down without cheating and even if you do it's a featureless plane
@@ThatOneWeirdFlex I found this on the subnautica wiki "If the player stays in the Crater Edge for 30 seconds, a second Ghost Leviathan will spawn. Staying in the area for another 30 seconds will spawn a third and final Ghost Leviathan. They will pursue the player until they return to the playable area, upon which all Ghost Leviathans retreat."
*wholesome time capsule about how much the fish means to this person*

bro time capsules are the best i found one saying "GHOST LEVIATHAN NEAR!!!!!! IF YOUR READING THIS YOUR INSIDE A DEAD ZONE DUMBO GET OUT OF THERE" and it gave me a racist rifle?
@@mrskulliousis probably would have been better if it gave you a pro-equality rifle, but hey, at least you have something to defend yourself now
I'm gonna cry myself to sleep tonight
When he was saying "A real person wrote that?" I thought he meant a developer and I was like "well duh..." but then I realized it's ACTUALLY A PLAYER WHO MADE THAT AND HE ATE THEIR FISH!!!!???
What I love about this game is how even after exploring everywhere I go, I still feel the same fear of what is around every corner (even though there are very few areas where there are enemies that actually can do damage/attack you)
5:06 That edit to put in Minecraft sand into the crafting there was so clean I almost didn't notice it!
14:00 OH GOD ANT FOUND IT
24:34 Honestly the most perfect way SmallAnt could've encountered one of those lol.
whats "one of those"? I can barely see anything :D
I love that instead of being scared or annoyed by the warpers, he just punches the absolute living crap out of them.
The Cyclops might be the coolest/most interesting I've ever piloted in a video game.
ikr, yet they took it off from below zero and we got seatruck instead, which is way less cooler than cyclops ://
@@giantalaskanworm719 tbf the cyclops would get stuck in 90% of the biomes and would only be viable in the Arctic, Tree Spires and Lilypads honestly
Like the seatruck is infinitely smaller and it’ll still get caught on absolutely everything
It would’ve been cool to have but it makes sense why it isn’t around
Driving into every creature I see is among my favourite things to do (reapers not included lmao)
Leviathans fully included.
You just need to drive into them a bit differently
I like how not many people play subnatica yet whenever someone does it’s reaches trending within the first few hours
Finally, I was waiting for this! I never get to see SmallAnt since I don't really watch Twitch anymore, so this is all I've got for Smant playing the game!
Also I love when the edit follows the creature that flies across the screen and smant reacts to it, it makes it so much funnier
This game is the perfect example of a game truly eliciting fears. It's also one of the best games ever made. Loved getting to watch you play this on stream and seeing the highlights here.
Imagine being excited someone found your time capsule, only for them to eat your friends in front of thousands of viewers
12:52 "Sea dragon? Dragon these--" Lmaoooooooo can only imagine chat's reaction
Smant killing the Reaper is the biggest move I've ever seen. Wild power play
I have extreme thalassophobia and started playing this game after your last video on it. I really enjoyed Below Zero. Weirdly less terrifying to me for some reason.
Below zero took much of the terror out of what they had in the original game. Personally I’m hoping that in the third game in the series they bring terror back but keep the good parts of below zero
@@Loganlikeslegos I honestly think the best thing to do would be to find some kind of balance between the two.
At the very least, I hope we get the option between all 4 vehicles (Seamoth, Seatruck, Cyclops, and Prawn Suit).
@@Loganlikeslegos BRO THERES A FUCKING WORM IN BELOW ZERO NOT EVEN LAND IS SAFE ANYMORE
@@SHMOUSEY86 I feel like seamoth would be redundant with the introduction of seatruck, but i hope that subnautica 3 brings the return of the cyclops, or possibly some other large vehicle
@@T101G They need to smoothen the movement of seatruck if they decide to leave seamoth out. Moving with it seems very weird
I suffered through every moment of this with you. I have the same fear as you, but my goodness I praise your bravery. I've tried this three times now, and only once got the seamoth. Great job, much better than I will ever do.
That edit at 5:08 was so subtle and well done I love it
Love chat calling the Eidolon Wyrm a "ghosty boy", true calamity enjoyers know it as Jared
Holy crap is that a hectique reference??
Gotta love the editor(s) in this one. So many details! That dream sequence was just gold 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
"So we see alien stuff down here which is interesting"
He says while on an alien planet.
Your fear of the ocean and water is literally so similar to mine. It’s not until I get to the open water that I start to freak out. At points where you were over the cliffs I literally wanted to scream.
Great editing, dude. Devine is adding so much to the experience.

You're scared of not being alone in the dark sea.
I like that at the start of the first episode, he knew basically nothing about this game, but at the start of this episode, he knows basically everything.
We gotta get Salvner to teach Smant to speedrun the game now that he's beaten it.
He just has to put his foot down
i was so excited to see your reaction to the cyclops and man i was not dissapointed
great content as always
When small ant went to the crabsquid. I immediately thought how lucky he was to be so unaware about the dangers that lil squid could do and I was laughing my bum off when it did nothing.
I love this game so much, so glad you got to experience it. Watching people play it for the first time is always such a treat.
Kudos to smant for perfect cut "Sea dragon remains? Sea draggin-"
Now that I watched you complete the game I don't have to. Thank goodness. I couldn't survive 3 in game days. My fear of the ocean was all too real while playing.
I grapple onto the Leviathans with my Prawn Suit grappling arm, and then drill them to death.
Especially reaper leviathans.
Ramming your Cyclops submarine into them is also a way to kill them effectively.
Him eating all the fish after reading out loud the story behind them was way too funny for me
I lost my shit laughing I had to pause it for a couple of minutes cause god damn I nearly died
You can see he is genuinely scared because he hasn't made exagerated expressions. Lmao.
