6:10 There is foreshadowing for this. During the Narzissenkreuz questline we learn from Rene/Jakob's notes that Natlan has their own technique, independent from Hydromancy, that reads fate.
Also hoping there is a Mayan inspired previous civilization underneath Natlan that originally developed this, since it would make so much sense with IRL Mayans and their association with astrology.
They have some Pyromancy right?

I did an etymology breakdown of the character names. Mualani (Mua-la-ni) is Hawaiian in origin and is named after a real life Hawaiian High Chiefess. Kinich (K'i-nich) comes from Kinich Ahau which is the Yucatec Mayan pronunciation for the Mayan sun god. Kachina (Kuh-chee-nuh) comes from the Pueblo culture of the South Western US. a Kachina is usually a spirit that represents the natural world. A lot of the names will be hard to pronounce for a lot of English speakers as they contain a lot of sounds that are not present in most European languages. If I missed anything please let me know.

In case anyone is interested in some names and stuff:
- We now know that Mualani is from People of Springs tribe (or, as it seems to be, Meztli tribe); Kachina is from Children of Echos tribe (or Nanatzcayan tribe), which we should meet first in Natlan; Kinich is from the Huitztlan tribe (didn't get english name yet, i think):
For Metztli: In Aztec mythology, Mētztli (Nahuatl: [metstɬi]; also rendered Meztli, Metzi, literally "Moon") was a god or goddess of the moon, the night, and farmers. They were likely the same deity as Yohaulticetl or Coyolxauhqui and the male moon god Tecciztecatl; like the latter, who feared the Sun because of its fire.
For Nanatzcayan (probably): Ilhuícatl-Nanatzcáyan (from Nahuatl: ilhuicatl-nanatzcayan 'the sky where there is grinding' 'ilhuicatl, sky; nanatzca, to grind; yan, place') in Mexica mythology is the eighth celestial stratum of the vertical universe according to the Mexica Cosmogony, it is the place where obsidian knives creak, it is the place of storms and the celestial abode of the gods of death, Mictlantecuhtli and Mictecacíhuatl, it is the transcendental region where darkness is born.
For Huitztlan (probably): Huitztlampa (from Nahuatl: witstlanpa ‘towards the place of thorns’ ‘witstli, thorn; tlan, place of; pa, towards’) in Aztec mythology is the cardinal point of the South, at noon, where the Centzon Huitznahuac, the sons of Coatlicue, and brothers of the god of war, took refuge when they fought against him, because by having taken refuge in that place they made the South from that time on, a place of predilection for the family of Huitzilopochtli and for the stars of the south.
- Mualani's con name might be: monk seal (her con name is Phoca Neomonachus, Binomial name for this type of seal is Neomonachus schauinslandi, while Phoca is a genus of the earless seals, within the family Phocidae.)
- Not sure about Koholasaurs but might be a reference to Kohala mountain, the oldest of five volcanoes that make up the island of Hawaii (since Mualani is based on Hawaiian High Chiefess)
- The geo dragon mentioned in Kachina drip was already mentioned in Saurian event and is based on Tepēyōllōtl, the god of darkened caves, earthquakes, echoes and jaguars. He is the god of the Eighth Hour of the Night, and is depicted as a jaguar leaping towards the Sun.
- Kachina's con name seems to translate to Eighth Prince
Now, what it actually is - American pika (Ochotona princeps), a diurnal species of pika, found in the mountains of western North America, usually in boulder fields at or above the tree line. They are herbivorous, smaller relatives of rabbits and hares. So, that's where her animal features come from most likely
- Not sure about Kinich's con name. Chimaera is probably supposed to be Chimera, a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature from Lycia, Asia Minor, composed of different animal parts. Alebriius might supposed to be Alebrije, rightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical (fantasy/mythical) creatures. But this is really flimsy speculation
- Not in the drip marketing but Saurian event also mentioned the name of the flying saurian, Iktomisaurus, which is based on Iktómi: In Lakota mythology, a spider-trickster spirit, and a culture hero for the Lakota people. Alternate names for Iktómi include Ikto, Ictinike, Inktomi, Unktome, and Unktomi. These names are due to the differences in languages between different indigenous nations, as this spider deity was known throughout many of North America's tribes.
As for the names of these 3:
- Mualani (also called Muolani or simply Mua; lani = "heaven/sky" in Hawaiian) was a Hawaiian High Chiefess who lived on the island of Oahu and was a Princess of Koʻolau.
She was a daughter of Princess Hinakaimauliʻawa of Koʻolau, who was Chief Kalehenui's daughter. Mualani's father was called Kahiwakaʻapu.
Princess Mualani was of Tahitian ancestry as a descendant of the wizard Maweke who came to Oahu from Tahiti.
After her mother's death, Chiefess Mualani succeeded her.
- A kachina is a spirit being in the religious beliefs of the Pueblo people, Native American cultures located in the south-western part of the United States. In the Pueblo cultures, kachina rites are practiced by the Hopi, Hopi-Tewa and Zuni peoples and certain Keresan tribes, as well as in most Pueblo tribes in New Mexico.
Kachinas are spirits or personifications of things in the real world. These spirits are believed to visit the Hopi villages during the first half of the year. The local pantheon of kachinas varies from pueblo community to community. A kachina can represent anything in the natural world or cosmos, from a revered ancestor to an element, a location, a quality, a natural phenomenon, or a concept; there may be kachinas for the sun, stars, thunderstorms, wind, corn, insects, as well as many other concepts.
- Kinich Ahau (Different spelling for Ajaw, so both dendro boy and his pixel dragon are a reference to this one god) is the 16th-century Yucatec name of the Maya sun god, designated as God G when referring to the codices. In the Classic period, God G is depicted as a middle-aged man with an aquiline nose, large square eyes, cross-eyed, and a filed incisor in the upper row of teeth. Usually, there is a k'in ('sun')-infix, sometimes in the very eyes. Among the southern Lacandons, Kinich Ahau continued to play a role in narrative well into the second half of the twentieth century.
Kinich Ahau is the Yucatec and Lacandon name of the sun god. The element kʼinich, usually assumed to mean 'sun-eyed', appears to have been in general use as a royal title during the Classic Period.

Kohola just means Whale, similarly the tepetl in Tepetlisauri just means mountain or hill which is fitting for geo. I don't think either is based on a god, the names are just straightforward meanings of words.
And yes, Kinich's con name is just Chimera Alebrije. Both are just alternate ways of spelling it, with Alebriius being a latinized version of Alebrije.
Also, it may be notable to point out that all the tribe names as well as some other names come from the Aztec Thirteen Heavens, which I highly recommend reading up on if you aren't familiar with it as it shares similarities to Genshin's lore

If you go to the latest desert area (the one with the water tree), you can find a cave on the bottom left corner with some puzzles
In this cave, you get special "fire effects" on the ambience, and the cave has special one of a kind puzzle and props designs stylized in the same way as Natlan stuff
One of the ways out of this "cave" is a path that leads to 2 cylindrical rocks that block the path
From the map seen during the Saurian trailer in 4.7, we can know that this path is the entrance to Natlan, like the sumeru entrance (the little cave that goes from the overworld chasm to the first statue of the seven) and fontaine entrance (the cave north of the desert)

in the teaser Mavuika said it’s a battle for “winners only”. i think you may be right about the 6 flames not only representing the different tribes, but also an individual of each tribe.

Though we don’t know how they will pronounce it in game, the C in Citlali is pronounced like an S in nahautl, it’s likely language of origin. Excellent video as always!

Typically everyone revealed in those types of trailers becomes playable. Given that Capitano was revealed, saying he will be playable should be a safe bet to make. Trust. He will come home.

@@harfi212One case out of five Harbingers that we met in the game, three of which became playable, and one is still alive, does not greatly reduces this 100% chance. There is like a 90% chance that Capitano will become playable, or he will not be killed, and judging by the circle of Fatui constellations in which we fight Fatui counterclockwise starting with Childe, Capitano will not die at least in Natlan, since he will either be the second boss in Natlan after Columbina, so he cannot die in AQ, or we will fight him in Snezhnaya.

The Natlan drip marketing is so colorful and way different than previous previews! Not shown in the slideshow, but even the big circle design (the one that looks like a clock behind the character), has a different design compared to previous regions. It's a nice change of pace.
For characters, Capitano (if he becomes playable), Mavuika, Kinich, and Oloron are my must pulls. And anyone who is a pyro+cryo Ficshl/Xingqiu added in 5.x is immediately going to be a must pull as well.
As a general tip for names with the cluster: it's considered one sound by those that speak Nahuatl, the same way we consider to be one sound even tho it's a combination of and . It's called the Voiceless Alveolar Lateral Affricate
I'm sure pronunciation guides will pop up eventually, but this is a good tip to remember. So in the case of Meztli, you can split it into Mez-tli.
I always thought that Ajaw was actually pronounced in a more phonetic, spanish way, given his name can also be spelt Ahau iirc. "Ahow", where is the same in cow.
Love the idea that the reason behind the lack of Natlanians in other regions etc and the yearly tournament could be due to a Samsara type of situation. I can see why it would explain why no-one has really left Natlan (why would they if they are stuck experiencing the same event again and again unknowingly, for them no real time has passed unlike for those outside the samsara). Plus could also explain why some characters seem bored by it because perhaps subconsciously being aware that they've been through this many times.
A theory that could work regardless of the samsara, being that the archon has to repeat the tournment until they get the result/the winner they need to fulfil a prophecy/the archon's 'secret' motive which may be what she tells the traveller and they help her achieve that goal. Maybe Capitano entering Natlan is the change that is needed to unlock/achieve the goal.
I don't know if the samsara is actually happening there, as there may be some tricky elements like the NPC from the recent event who was able to arrive and leave Natlan, which as we know from Sumeru's archon quest was something the traveller tried to do but couldn't. Everyone was stuck in the cycle. But this could be a different/more advanced version of a samsara.
The fact that the geo girl, Kachina, has a history of failing her pilgrimage....which could either prove there is no cycle or she could be the key to stopping the cycle like Nilou and once she succeeds at her pilgrimage, things change.

@@jasonmartinez7774 If you're interested in someone that's currently playing through for the first time/not caught up yet, I've been enjoying watching a guy named Roamer in addition to Arnold/murderofbirds here. Roamer is just wrapping up Inazuma, and is taking his time doing all the story quests, important world quests, hangouts, and even watching a few of the bigger/more important old event quests. He's very positive and enthusiastic about the game, and still retains that sense of wonder and appreciation that a lot of content creators seem to have lost lately. His series starts off pretty slow since he does dailies and exploration a lot in his videos at first, all mixed in with other stuff, but lately he's been a bit more focused with one quest per video.
@@jasonmartinez7774 from my experience, people who still look forward to Genshin and do their own thing without being in the middle of drama all the time are people like RednasYo, BranOnline, Doro44, Jeikage, maybe bwaap (not sure about him, didnt watch him in a while). There are definitely more somewhere tho

I feel like one of the main theme of Natlan will be names. If the tournament is to earn a name, I wonder if Capitano does not currently have a name and is trying to earn one. Given that the summer event has heavy implications for Natlan, Wanderer being there is maybe more symbolic than just a Fatui harbinger taking on a dragon since he was given a name by the Traveller. Hm...
So if each tribe selects a candidate to represent them in the tournament, i wonder if its not limited to just Natlanians, maybe this is how Traveler gets involved with Natlan by being a representitive for one of the tribes and this may explain why Capitano is with Ororon, he is the representative for Ororon's tribe.
I love the character outfits but I wish Hoyoverse would actually implement dark skinned people being playable. It just doesn’t make sense that they use people’s culture for the game and not the people from that culture 😭

it was already difficult as a f2p to get fontaines characters, just right now i struggled and got Furina after 134 wishes of losing 50/50, they're trying their best to do that again, im still going for Archons even though Venti being so mediocre might get pushed to last

Mualani is a must pull for me. I love Cassandra’s work but Mualani herself just seems really pretty and upbeat. I’m hoping her gameplay is fun.

what makes me so curious about natlan though, is the lack of any revealed electro character. With the release of chevruse, i was assuming that natlan would introduce meta overload parties with character benefiting from overload. Yet there are no electro characters in the line up(though at this point idk how you top Fischl, Raiden or Kuki as electro supports for overload pyro dps lol)
In regards to the pilgrimage tournament I think from the natlan trailer that that will be capitano’s angle for getting the gnosis, or at least close enough to the archon to get the gnosis. I saw a theory on Reddit that the plot twist at the end of the archon quest could be that we win the tournament and get the gnosis and then that’s our ticket for getting into snezhnaya to confront the tsaritsa! I don’t think it’s very likely, but it’s a fun scenario to think about!
So interested to see what the Natlan Archon Quest is about. Fontaine story kept me so engaged and nervous.

I'm so so glad you made this video bcs that last bit where you "cook up" theory about the tournament made me remember your last video about Natlan.
When you read about The Talking Stick, it told a story of a hero gathering one "candidate" from each tribe. Something happened when they fought "black tide" or whatever and the place where they died became Mare Jivari, a place full of ashes where seemingly heroic people died.
What if this "pilgrimage for a wish" is literally that? They are going to make a tournament out of it? Maybe someone who is the strongest will get "something" to resurrect someone and all will be well in Natlan? Bcs Fontaine was seemingly fine until we were told that there was a prophecy about flood.
WHAT IF THEY'RE RESURRECTING THE PYRO DRAGON?? Like directly. Bcs Pyro Sovereign Dragon would probably can helped them more and their Archon knew this. Bcs this is a land of dragons after all. I think there's more to the relationship than just oppression like Melusines.

I really don't think the title of Saurian Hunter is as bad as it sounds, this is genshin after all, after 5 new regions the story has yet to go there and do far Natlan isn't appearing to either but i digress the title probably means people who go out and take wild saurians for use because i don't think there's anyway they were on good terms with humans ever since both lived in the region
Also I like the theory of certain playable characters being heads or representatives of the different tribes, i for one believe Probably standing behind Capitano is of great importance makes me believe he's aligned and maybe his tribe also is with Capitano and are forming a rebellion in some way after learning some well kept secret that the archon was keeping
And any knowledgeable people in chat can i get a pronunciation check for Xablanque and Citali because I'm pronouncing them so differently then Arnold

For context, Kinich jpn va is the same va for Sasuke and the va for the pixel dragon is thr same va for Naruto. Now all we need is Kakashi and Sakura to be a complete set.

Will not be pulling for anyone on my mine cause I have to save for the Archon. But since I have 3 other accounts and 2 of those are guaranteed, safe to say I’d still be able to play Kinich and Mualani.
I’m also crown bankrupt right now from leveling up the talents of all my 5 stars.
Looking at their official art it doesn't look and feel genshin to me, but they all look good and I already love their personalities from the Natlan trailer. Cannot wait to learn more about them! ❤
In case people are curious about the original names of these new characters as i was too since i like to play the games in their original language, i found the original names.

edit: for pronunciations (doing my best to come up with similar words, I hope its helpful or if someone can explain better feel free to add)
First of all, all the a's in this names are pronounced like "ah", like in "as" or "pallete"
Citlali is pronounced like see-tla-lee ! (your tlali pronounciation is good!)
Meztli is about right but try to pronounce the z and the tl with a little more enphasis (same tl sound as ciTLali)
Huitztlán; the h is silent so its pronounced a bit like wits-tlan, also tlan should be pronounced with a little more "force" since tlan is the tonic syllable, so somewhat like wits-TLAN
Nanatzcáyan: first part should be fairly intuitive (nanatz), the tonic syllable here is ca, and the y sound in yan is somewhat like the j sound in english but a bit more soft, leaning a little bit to the yan sound in xinyan

it might be a hot take, but the story telling felt like it fell off during Fontaine arc. Like none of the "climaxes" hit the way they were being hyped. In fontaine i felt like we were building up for something big but the final reveals were...not "that" good. Same for the narcissencreuz ordo plot line. I believe it had soo much amazing lore, but for the final part of it, i had no idea what tf was even happening lol. Idk if that's because narcissencreuz ordo was set on certain philosophical ideals and fontaine as a land of fairy tales is very much had absurd things happening in a lot of their quests..like that one quest with canotilla and cater, etc etc. that it became hard for me to grasp what even is going on. I tried to keep holding on to the lore that was being dropped along with those quests that i almost had no idea what i am even doing. Not to mention, despite there being a tree and all in fontaine..i somehow feel I did not get the "breathtaking views" that we get in other nations..or rather the scale was a little off. The only places where i just stood , paused the quest line to admire the surroundings in fontaine were 1- When we first glance at fontaine in that one cutscene from the cliff on sumeru desert. 2- When we first dive underwater to Annapausis 3- When we reached Remuria.
P.S. I am not saying i did not like Fontaine, i just felt that Sumeru's story telling and impact of the plot was much greater(excluding Focalors sacrifice, that felt almost as impactful as Nahida....uhh..what did nahida do again? IDK i cant remember) and the sights in Sumeru and inazuma both were more memorable for me.
So far i am loving everything i m seeing in natlan. I love the graffiti painted areas, colorful rocky land, new character designs..even though Mavuika's attire feels immersion breaking I don't care. I m just excited to see capitano, Xbalanque, Mare Jivari, Learn more about Mavuika as we finally have a bold and strong female archon, who is not a kid..and nor does she seems socially awkward like Raiden.
These designs are solid, just…..we need darker skin. It genuinely looks so much better. Even JUST speaking aesthetically it’s so much better. Be so real.
Edit: Also, do NOT harass the VAs, if anything this is not their fault and they have been vocal about how they have in the past and especially now, ALWAYS tried to correct Hoyo and the localization team when ethnic words, names, and other concerns arose in the recording booth. They’ve BEEN fighting the good fight. This is not their fault.
I honestly hope these three are 4 Stars. None of their designs really scream 5 Stars. Plus, Fontaine was nothing but 5 Stars.

Arnold recently I saw the controversy surrounding Natlan characters that they are not dark skinned. I want to know your opinion about this. Should we raise our voice about this issue or don't worry about it because it's just a fiction?

I don’t think he’s too big on the issue but he definitely isn’t against the idea of them being dark skinned. He reposted a redesign of Olorun that was black with dreads
He said remuria world quest arnold he dissapointed by not having a character that looks like "him but from the seem of it hes not really as making a scene like other ccs.

Their names and designs are based on Hawaiian, Native American and maya mythology. You should apologize for saying their designs are based on African culture. That’s totally disrespect to their culture.
If I said that, it wasn't out of malice or disrespect, so you don't need to demand an apology from me. A mistake is NOT "totally disrespectful"; it's uninformed at worst, and responding with the proper information is the proper response. I know that Natlan is inspired by places like Latin America, Africa, and Polynesia, so it was certainly an incorrect statement regarding this drip marketing, and that's that.
He shouldn't apologize for speculating the natlan character designs. Not everyone is knowlegdable or aware where Natlan and its characters are inspired from. Arnold here is all about lore and expressing his thoughts about the limited information provided from all sorts of official texts and posts from Hoyo. You can correct him on it, but to demand an apology for an unintentional mistake is unneeded.

They all look very cool, but I have to skip unfortunately. I hope they show up a lot in the story though.
what i can't really stand is how the community are so obsessed with skin colors.. like it has nothing to do with real life. even Sumeru people don't wear hijab. or Liyue npcs don't have that small eyes. BUT if you wanna riot i'm on your side. this game needs to be criticized even more. they feel like they're invincible knowing no matter how their players hate their game they still make tons of money thanks to fckn whaler. we're so close to i forgot which anniversary it's gonna be but surely another 20 pulls and free gadget and pet. absolute boring and greedy.

The concept of himeko in hoyo games is more of an alternate universe type thing, they arent exactly the same person but they are at the same time. She didnt travel from hi3 to hsr to genshin but its more of Himeko if she was in the genshin world
